Chapter 58: Chapter 51: Yin Yang Five Elements Are Everywhere

It’s actually quite common for children to have a Heart and Kidney Imbalance.

The root cause is inadequate transformation by the Spleen and Stomach, which creates cold dampness, and this dampness in the middle burner blocks the descent of Heart Fire and the ascent of Hydronephrosis.

Because adults do not know how to care for children, they always think children need to eat this and supplement that, and as they raise them, they ruin the Spleen and Stomach.

Some children, on the other hand, do not have damaged Spleen and Stomach, but are pushed to mature too quickly.

The Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor, in the Su Wen’s beginning, the Discourse on the True Nature of the Past, says, "At seven, a girl’s Kidney Qi is abundant, her teeth change, and her hair grows long. At two sevens, she reaches menarche, the Ren and the Tai Chong Meridian are vigorous, her periods occur regularly, so she can conceive. At three sevens, her Kidney Qi is balanced, her true teeth emerge and are fully grown. At four sevens, her tendons and bones are strong, her hair is at its fullest, her body is robust. At five sevens, the Yangming Meridians weaken, her complexion begins to darken, her hair begins to fall. At six sevens, the three Yang Meridians on the upper body weaken, her face darkens, her hair turns white. At seven sevens, the Ren Meridian is empty, the Tai Chong Meridian declines, her heavenly water is exhausted, earthly pathways are blocked, and so her form decays without offspring."

"At eight, a boy’s Kidney Qi is full, his hair grows, his teeth change. At two eights, his Kidney Qi is abundant, he reaches maturity, his essence flows, Yin and Yang harmonize, allowing conception. At three eights, his Kidney Qi is balanced, his tendons and bones are strong, his true teeth emerge and are fully grown. At four eights, his tendons and bones thrive, his muscles are robust. At five eights, his Kidney Qi declines, his hair falls, his teeth dry out. At six eights, his Yang Qi diminishes above, his face darkens, his hair whitens. At seven eights, his Liver Qi declines, his tendons can no longer move. At eight eights, his heavenly water is exhausted, essence is scarce, his kidneys decline, his body is extremely aged, teeth and hair fall out."

This passage is about the age of normal human growth and development, at seven a girl changes teeth and her hair begins to flourish, while for boys it’s at eight.

Girls begin menstruating at fourteen, truly gaining the ability to bear children, while boys reach maturity at sixteen.

That’s right, boys indeed have it too. Unlike girls who experience it monthly, boys have it daily from the start.

But the manifestation is different; boys do not bleed, instead, they grow facial hair.

Nowadays, society is more advanced, and with abundant food, the growth and development for many children have accelerated significantly.

This is especially noticeable abroad!

Over at Ermao’s, eleven or twelve-year-old girls look just like they are in their twenties, but when they reach their twenties, especially after having children, they age significantly faster.

Now, the same trend is happening in Huaxia!

However, many people disagree with this view, thinking that after thousands of years, human physiques have naturally changed.

Only those who are older know, women over thirty-five and men over forty, that the experience of life is entirely different.

This age specifically corresponds to the decline in Kidney Qi mentioned in the Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor!

A few minutes later, Lu Jiu finished taking the pulse.

There wasn’t much change in the dialogue amongst the Five Viscera compared to before. It’s just that the problem had been lingering for too long, leading to an excess of Heart Fire causing Xia Xing to appear particularly irritable every day. At night, when it was time to sleep, he would feel extremely hot.

The child doesn’t understand how to express it, he wants to sleep but can’t, so naturally he gets fussy, as not making a fuss would be uncomfortable due to the heat making him anxious.

Once he makes a fuss, sleep eludes him, and when he doesn’t sleep well, it leads to headaches. And how does a child handle a headache? The child has no choice but to cry.

Crying is actually an instinctive self-preservation mechanism for a child.

Since Wood can generate Fire, Xia Xing inherently had a lot of Fire. Liver Wood kept supplying it with fuel, which was not good. Tears are the Liver’s fluid, so when he cries and tears flow out, it weakens Liver Wood, offering some alleviation for the symptoms of excessive Heart Fire.

It’s similar to when Fan Jin passed the exam, and his father-in-law slapped him awake, instantly curing his hysteria.

The former is agitation due to excessive Heart Fire, where crying equals sadness, in the five emotions theory, sadness can overcome anger.

The latter is excessive joy from passing an exam, where a slap is terrifying, in the five emotions theory, fear can overcome joy.

This is why traditional Chinese medicine emphasizes the Yin Yang Five Elements so much: because these elements are ubiquitous in our lives.

If you don’t understand them, how can you know where an illness comes from, let alone treat it?

"The problem isn’t too severe, but this time we need to use medication, and furthermore, the child’s fussiness is due to not sleeping well leading to a headache, which I’ll adjust with acupuncture. Uncle Xia, please put Xia Xing onto the small bed and roll up his sleeves." After Lu Jiu finished speaking, he took out a few finest needles from the drawer.

Xia Jun, upon hearing this, immediately placed Xia Xing onto the small bed. However, the child’s head was still aching, so after being put down, his just-stopped crying began again.

Seeing their son wailing, with tears falling without stint, Xia Yuan and her wife felt a pang in their hearts.

Lu Jiu stepped forward and immediately applied acupuncture.

Hegu, Neiguan, Quchi.

With Lu Jiu’s current level in acupuncture, he could virtually ensure perfect alignment of sight, mind, and hand, with improved ability to detect the patient’s breath since before, so even as Xia Xing tossed about, his hands and feet restless, he did not miss a single acupoint.

After administering the three needles, Lu Jiu observed the areas where acupuncture was applied, and when a pink circle appeared around them, he gently rotated and pressed his hands on Xia Xing’s Taiyang Acupoint. After massaging for a while, he began pressing down with both thumbs from Xia Xing’s brow center.

After just a short while, Xia Xing, whose face was red from crying, suddenly calmed down and slowly drifted to sleep, closing his wailing mouth which then began undulating with his breath.

This...

Witnessing this, Xia Yuan couple and Xia Jun were dumbfounded.

That was fast!

In less than a minute, their child had gone from crying loudly to falling asleep.

Is acupuncture really this powerful?

Before they could recover from their surprise, Lu Jiu quickly retrieved the finest needles, then wrote a prescription on paper and moved to the cabinet to gather medicine for Xia Xing.

The prescription was quite simple, named the Sympathetic Decoction, primarily to invigorate Qi, clear the mind, reduce Fire, and generate Water.

A total of three herbs: Polygala, Cyperus, and licorice.

The dosage was not large either.

After all, given he’s a child, slight adjustments would suffice, and allowing natural recovery was best.

"Uncle Xia, this medicine is to be taken once only. After consuming it, his sleep should improve somewhat. For these two days, don’t feed him anything else, just make some porridge as I mentioned last time, maybe add some Chinese yam. Allow him to eat if he can, if not, don’t force it, but no snacks allowed. When he starts sleeping well, take him out to run and play whenever possible," Lu Jiu handed the medicine to Xia Jun.

Xia Jun nodded repeatedly, "This time I will follow your instructions for sure."

He then surreptitiously glanced at his daughter-in-law.

Lu Jiu nodded, then looked toward Xia Yuan’s couple, "It’s good to care for your child, but in some cases, raising kids a little rough does no harm. If your home conditions are good, you can get him nice clothes and take him out to have fun, but keep the food simple. That’s all I have to say. Whether or not you take it to heart is up to you." 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Xia Yuan quickly thanked him, "Yes, yes, we’ll remember, thank you so much, Dr. Lu."

Lu Jiu waved his hand, "Scan the code."

Xia Yuan promptly took out his phone, and after confirming the price with Lu Jiu, paid the medical fee, and the family left the clinic carrying the sleeping Xia Xing.

Meanwhile, in Lu Jiu’s mind, a prompt sound echoed again...
