I Can Talk to the Internal Organs-Chapter 105 - 85: Breast Cancer
Lu’s Clinic.
"Don’t push, don’t push, if you haven’t been called, why are you trying to squeeze forward?"
"Exactly, Dr. Lu will see everyone in turn, what’s the hurry?"
"Bro, I see there are only twenty people in front, so why am I number twenty-five?"
"There are four numbers that aren’t given out."
"Why?"
"They say it’s for emergencies, infants, and the elderly with high age."
"Well, these numbers are free anyway, and if you’re called today and can’t be seen, you can move forward tomorrow, so what’s the rush?"
"That’s true."
"..."
When there’s a crowd, it’s easy for order to get lost, so Lu Jiu used a queue system.
The numbers are free, serving only to maintain order in the queue, and to ensure those who couldn’t be seen one day are prioritized the next.
Inside the clinic, Lu Jiu was instructing a man in his fifties on how to take his medicine.
Lu Mountain was helping Lu Jiu gather medicinal herbs, while a cat sat at the door, its big eyes fixed on the crowd, as if warning them not to think about bypassing the queue to see the doctor.
"Number 7!"
"Coming, coming, mom, take it slow."
A lady, appearing to be around sixty, slowly sat down in front of Lu Jiu, supported by her daughter.
The lady looked somewhat pale, hunched over on the stool, her breathing slightly quick with faint coughing sounds, a dry cough without phlegm.
Her arm exposed from the sleeve was like dry wood, the kind that felt like skin wrapped around bones, too thin, way too thin.
It seemed as if a gust of wind could blow this lady over.
Lu Jiu furrowed his brows slightly, but soon relaxed them.
He felt that the lady’s condition was a bit serious, so he knew he couldn’t appear too solemn, otherwise, it might make the patient’s heart sink before treatment even began.
Lu Jiu smiled, "Ma’am, where do you feel uncomfortable?"
Chen Muyao gritted her teeth and said, "My mom, breast cancer."
What!? 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
Before Lu Jiu could react, the patients waiting in line gasped.
Several of those waiting turned their heads to stare directly at Chen Muyao and her mom.
Breast cancer!
That’s cancer.
Although cancer is a terminal illness, not many people have actually seen someone with cancer.
Out of curiosity, they waited to see what Lu Jiu would do.
Of course, they didn’t really believe Lu Jiu could cure this illness.
It’s cancer, getting it is almost like receiving a death sentence, how could it possibly be treated?
"Did she undergo surgery?" Lu Jiu asked.
Chen Muyao nodded, "Yes."
"Was it a partial removal or a total mastectomy?" Lu Jiu inquired.
"It started as a partial removal, but as the tumor grew larger, it was fully removed, now..." Chen Muyao paused, not continuing further.
Lu Jiu looked at her and her mother, his expression growing serious. He wanted to ease the tension to reduce the patient’s stress, but it seemed unnecessary now, "Now, the cancer cells have metastasized to the lungs, right?"
Chen Muyao looked up, surprised at Lu Jiu, then nodded.
Sigh!
Lu Jiu couldn’t help but sigh.
The disease had spread to the viscera, now things were really difficult.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the breast is also considered an extraordinary organ, though there are barely any classic texts describing or defining it.
However, some renowned figures from later generations, based on ancient texts describing the meridians and internal organs, eventually defined the breasts as having attributes similar to the uterus.
For instance, menstruation comes from the descent of blood through the Ren and Chong Meridians, and in the Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor, Suwen·Bone and Space Theory, it is recorded that "The Ren Meridian originates from below the central pole...to the throat."
This indicates that the Ren Meridian runs along the midline of the body, flanked by the Foot Shaoyin Meridian, where all the Yin Meridians converge.
The Chong Meridian is described in the Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor, Spiritual Pivot·Reversal, Obesity: "The Chong Meridian...is under the Shaoyin Meridian, filtering through the Three Yin."
The Difficult Classic·Twenty-Seventh Difficulty states that the Chong Meridian "runs alongside the Foot Yangming Meridian, ascending past the navel to the chest and dispersing," "this chest," primarily relating to the breasts.
It is apparent that the Chong and Ren Meridians are linked to the uterus below and the breasts above, their Qi and blood promoting and maintaining the physiological functions of the uterus and breasts.
The milk within the breasts is transformed from the body’s essence and blood, thus considered Life Essence, the Five Viscera’s ability to store Life Essence, but also possessing the function of the Six Bowels, which are solid but never filled.
For instance, many women have lumps in their breasts, but even to death, these lumps often do not affect their health.
So, judging by function, the breasts, like the brain, spinal marrow, bones, vessels, gall bladder, female uterus, and seminal chambers, are considered extraordinary organs.
Since they are bowels, the diseases originating there are generally less severe compared to those in the Five Viscera.
With the rewards Lu Jiu received in recent days, his medical skills have improved dramatically, handling most illnesses with ease.
If the elderly woman’s cancer cells hadn’t spread or metastasized, merely residing in the breast, Lu Jiu might have attempted to help. He knew he couldn’t cure cancer cells, but if he could improve her quality of life, allowing her to eat and sleep, the Five Viscera and Six Bowels might have the time and space to self-recover, preventing life quality impact while coexisting with the cancer cells.
Unfortunately, with metastasis, Lu Jiu knew without needing to try that he couldn’t cure it.
This was based on a rational judgment of his capabilities.
"I’m sorry, I can’t do anything," Lu Jiu said.
Chen Muyao frowned, somewhat unwilling, "Dr. Lu, could you at least try?"
Lu Jiu shook his head, "It’s not that I don’t want to try, it’s that I genuinely can’t cure this. If I know my limits and yet deceive you into staying for treatment, the money I make wouldn’t be earned with a clear conscience."
Chen Muyao’s breathing quickened, "But many doctors clearly stated their inability to treat the after-effects of reviving the Yang, yet you cured one after another. Why...why not even try for cancer..."
