Chapter 197: Heart Of The Abyss

A dark red orb flickered into existence.

It pulsed with an ominous glow, swirling with a strange, unstable energy.

As soon as Aleman looked at it, a system notification appeared.

[ Warning! You are being presented with a Forbidden Item: "Heart of the Abyss." ]

[ This item is not meant to exist outside the game world. Attempting to extract may lead to unknown consequences. Proceed with caution. ]

Aleman’s eyes narrowed. This was the first time he was getting a notification like this and he hadn’t even tried extracting the item yet.

This wasn’t just any item.

This was an Abyssal Artifact... a relic of legendary-tier, rumored to be tied to one of the darkest forces in Enders Light.

And Oni wanted it in the real world. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

Aleman’s fingers itched to reject it, but Derrick’s life was at stake.

Slowly, he reached forward and his fingers grazed the orb—

[ Do you wish to Extract this item into Reality? Yes / No ]

He hesitated briefly as his mind spun.

And then, he selected Yes.

A bright flash of crimson light erupted as the orb vanished from his hand.

And in the real world, inside that underground island base—

A dark object materialized.

---

Aleman opened his eyes.

The VR pod hissed open, and he sat up.

Fox and Drakos were already waiting.

Drakos held the dark red orb in his palm, studying it with an unnerving fascination.

Fox’s eyes glimmered with satisfaction.

"Well, well."

She turned to Aleman while clapping her hands slowly.

"That wasn’t so hard, was it?"

Aleman didn’t respond.

Fox smirked and stepped closer.

"See? I told you we could work well together."

She gestured toward one of the guards.

"Release Derrick."

Aleman exhaled.

He had bought Derrick’s freedom... for now.

But at what cost?

Because whatever Oni wanted with the "Heart of the Abyss"...

It couldn’t be good.

Fox smirked as she motioned towards a nearby monitor, causing a screen to glow up.

The grainy CCTV feed showed Derrick stumbling out of a blacked-out van, barely able to keep his balance.

His face was bruised, his clothes torn and dirtied, but he was alive.

The camera panned out, showing a city street, far from the remote island.

Aleman’s fists unclenched slightly, but his guard remained up.

Drakos clapped mockingly.

"See? We keep our word. Derrick is free."

Aleman’s jaw remained tight.

Fox stepped closer as her gloved fingers traced the rim of her mask.

"But you? Not so much."

Before Aleman could react, four Oni enforcers lunged at him, clamping cold metallic shackles onto his wrists and ankles.

A sudden, intense surge of power shot through his body, paralyzing his abilities.

He suddenly felt his connection with Phantom Blitz, Thunder Spear, and Perfect Veil vanish.

Aleman grimaced upon realizing that he couldn’t activate any of his real world abilities.

"You think shackles will keep me in check?"

Fox chuckled with a look of mocking amusement.

"These aren’t just any shackles, Aleman. These are suppression cuffs— tech infused with anti-mana inhibitors. Created by our specialists."

Drakos scarred lips curled into a grin as he leaned in.

"You’re ours now. Until we’re sure you’ve embraced your new ’family.’"

Aleman took a deep breath.

"This is not very smart of you."

Fox’s amusement deepened.

"Oh? And why’s that?"

Aleman’s lips curled into a dangerous smirk.

"Because I always plan ahead."

Less than five minutes later, a loud alarm suddenly blared through the island base.

Fox’s smile faded.

"What the—"

Drakos snapped his head around as his eyes narrowed.

Aleman watched them with cold amusement.

The lights in the room dimmed, the entire Oni command center flashing with red warning lights.

A panicked voice crackled through the overhead speakers.

"Unknown choppers detected! Unidentified aircrafts approaching at high speed!"

Fox’s expression darkened.

She turned sharply to Aleman.

"What did you do?"

Aleman rolled his shoulders, feeling the cold weight of the shackles against his skin.

"Nothing much. Just left a little gift for you."

Drakos grabbed him by the collar with iron clad grip.

"Explain!"

Aleman chuckled with a completely unfazed look.

"You thought you were being clever, taking away my gear, abilities and shackling me here. But I’ve have a tracker on me this whole time..."

Fox’s eyes widened in realization.

"You—"

"I just needed my friend to be safe first."

Drakos cursed and slammed Aleman against the wall.

"You set us up?!"

"No, you set yourselves up."

Outside, the distant whirl of helicopter blades grew louder.

Through the small reinforced window, bright spotlights suddenly illuminated the island, cutting through the dense tropical foliage.

Fox spun towards one of the radio operators in the room.

"Who is it?! What kind of choppers are those?!"

The radio crackled, a panicked technician responding.

"They’re... government-sanctioned operatives! Unknown division! Their gear is military-grade!"

Fox snapped her head back towards Aleman, who stood there, watching with satisfaction.

"You called the feds on us?"

Aleman shrugged.

"Not the feds. But let’s just say... a very concerned detective has been tracking my movements."

Drakos gritted his teeth.

"Damn it! Deploy countermeasures! Get every unit ready for engagement! We are under attack!"

---

Outside, figures in high-tech armored suits descended from the choppers with their boots slamming against the island terrain.

They moved with precise formation, wielding energy rifles and enhanced melee weapons.

Each of them had the same insignia... a stylized eagle with a lightning bolt through it.

It was a division beyond the standard police force.

Among them, leading the charge, was Detective Wright.

His eyes were sharp as steel and his stance unshaken.

He raised a megaphone to his lips.

"This is a government-sanctioned operation! ONI members, stand down immediately! You are surrounded!"

Drakos turned to Fox.

"We need to get the artifact off this island. Now."

Fox nodded, signaling her men.

"Secure the artifact. And—"

She turned towards the Oni enforcers guarding Aleman.

"Take him. He is coming with us!"

Aleman smirked.

"Well, that escalated quickly."

...

The roar of helicopters filled the air as their searchlights cut through the dense jungle of the Oni’s hidden island base.

The security operatives who were over seventy strong, deployed in tactical squads, advancing through the compound with military precision.

However, they weren’t alone.

Two figures stood at the front lines alongside Detective Wright.

These happened to be super-powered individuals who had been assigned to assist in the takedown.

One was a tall woman with short white hair, clad in a dark armored suit. Her eyes emitted a a soft violet glow as she threw her fingers forward, letting things fly into the air with her mind.

The other was a muscular man with tribal tattoos. Each of them glowed a faint blue as his body radiated raw kinetic force.

Detective Wright raised a megaphone to his lips causing his voice to boom across the battlefield.

"ONI operatives! This is your only warning! Surrender now, or face the consequences!"

A second passed.

Then another.

Then—

Gunfire erupted.

---

Within the Oni’s command center, Fox, Drakos, Lyriss, and Orlma stood in front of Aleman, watching as the battle outside erupted into chaos.

"We have to move, now!" Lyriss, the Oni assassin, hissed. "They’re better equipped than expected!"

Drakos scowled as his eyes emitted a golden gleam. "They were prepared for us. This was a damn trap."

Fox didn’t argue. She knew this mission had gone south the moment Aleman revealed the tracker.

But they still had one advantage.

She turned to the two Oni enforcers holding Aleman captive.

"Use him as shield."

The guards moved and raised Aleman up...

However, at this moment...

CRACK.

A deafening gunshot rang out, and one of the enforcers collapsed with a hole in his head.

The other spun around, only to be blasted backward by a telekinetic force, slamming him against the steel walls.

Aleman smirked as his body dropped to the floor.

At the entrance stood Detective Wright with a gun smoking from the single precise shot.

Behind him, the white haired woman stepped forward with her eyes glowing as she extended a hand toward Aleman.

The cuffs suppressing his power shattered into dust.

And just like that, Aleman was free.

Fox’s expression darkened but she didn’t wait. She and Lyriss headed out through the exit swiftly while Drakos followed behind them.

Drakos cracked his knuckles. "Well, shit."

Aleman stretched his fingers upon feeling his abilities return like a flood.

A strange stimulating sensation spread across his being.

"Alright... let’s have some fun."

Aleman vanished in a blur, activating Perfect Veil before reappearing behind an Oni enforcer, slamming a sharp piece of metal into his spine before Phantom Blitzing away into the shadows.

The white haired woman, now revealed as Celeste Renard, lifted entire sections of the Oni compound, hurling debris and enemies alike with devastating telekinetic force.

The tattooed man, Darius "Titan" Holt, absorbed bullets and explosions, redirecting them with a single punch that sent shockwaves through the battlefield.

Fox dodged through the chaos, trying to avoid getting into a direct clash with them but Aleman and Celeste gave chase.

Lyriss, the assassin, moved like a ghost, weaving through gunfire and striking operatives down in their path.

Drakos charged into battle, tearing through squads like an unstoppable force.

His super-enhanced strength made him an army of his own.

And then—

Aleman caught up to Orlma and they locked eyes.

The Oni strategist lifted her hand, conjuring a wave of violet energy that distorted reality itself.

Aleman dashed forward, dodging just in time while using two metallic bars in his grasp to slash through the energy field as he reached her.

Their battle soon turned into a blur of flashes and explosions as they collided powerfully.

"You should’ve joined us, Aleman!" Orlma snarled while conjuring a barrier to block Aleman’s slash.

Bam!

"Sorry, I don’t work with terrorists," Aleman shot back and then reappeared behind her before landing a spinning kick that sent her flying forward.

Aleman dashed forward again but Fox suddenly appeared and then touched a portion of the ground, causing both herself and Orlma to sink into the shadows.

While they were sinking in, Aleman flung one of the metallic bars in his grasp forward, causing it to hit Fox square on the head.

She groaned in pain as blood jutted out and flowed down her face but Aleman wasn’t able to reach there in time.

Only small droplets of blood was left in their initial position.
