I can expand my MAGIC ENDLESSLY?!-Chapter 25: The battlefield
"Attack from the side it’s a 3rd Tier peak beast!"
Garren shouted, dodging the venom the beast spat out. It was white in color with dark glossy eyes. Seeing its attack didn’t work, it spat out another mouthful of venom with its long tongue.
Garren gritted his teeth, rolling to the side and barely dodging the attack. One of his comrades rushed in, blocking the beast before it could strike again.
Giving Garren a moment to catch his breath allowed him a brief chance to gaze over the battlefield.
In these past three years he has trained, focusing solely on improving himself. He clenched his fists.
He can feel it he willreak through to the next star soon. Second Star Aura!. He will become an official knight soon.
Woosh~
"Woah, that thing’s really powerful," one of his comrades muttered, rushing over to him.
It had already been an hour since the battle began, and fatigue was starting to build up. But the creature they were facing showed no signs of tiring, it was still as fierce as when the fight started.
"Yeah... it sure is powerful," Garren muttered.
They were, in fact, gazing at the Paragon.
Its massive stone sword swung down, impaling an unfortunate Red-Clawed Bear, a Third-Tier beast, being done by one single move.
Seeing its companion fall, the other Red-Clawed Bear roared, rage blazing in its crimson eyes. It tore through the encirclement, scattering knights like twigs, and charged straight for the paragon.
But Sir Aldric did not waver. Gears started to spin before, CLANK! The Paragon’s enormous fist detached, chains whipping afterwards.
The knuckle shot forward like a boulder launched from a cannon.
CRACK!
The knuckle collided right on its head, exploding the head instantly and splashing blood everywhere. The force was so great that even after it cracked the skull like a bubble, it crashed down onto the ground, carving a small hole.
The knuckle snapped back on its chains, locking into the paragon’s arm once more. It killed two third tier beasts instantly. That’s how strong paragons are, despite it being an old model and not capable of magic.
On the far east of the battlefield, another flash of light erupted. Causing Garren to take another deep breath in.
The Paragon’s strength was expected. But the two figures swarming into the monsters weren’t. They moved as if the beasts posed no threat at all.
Garren paused, then realized: no matter how weak a lion is, it’s still a lion. At one time, he might be stronger than the cub... but the lion would always grow, and one day, it would surpass him.
They were nobles. That alone made the difference. And for a commoner like him, there was no hope of ever catching up.
On the far east of Battlefield,
The two figures Garren was referring to, in fact, were none other than Kairos and Nolen.
Nolen’s sword glowed for a split second. He slashed the sword down, sending forth another wave of slashes towards the herd of beasts, instantly decimating them into pieces.
Kairos, who was right beside killing the one coming from the other side, couldn’t help but give a glance at his sword.
It was glowing with a few runes inscribed on it. "A 3rd-generation enchanted sword," he uttered.
An artifact whose production rights are reserved only for the Military Academy. It was a specially modified sword, crafted solely for slaying monsters. Kairos had seen even more terrifying ones from this third generation, yet obtaining one was no easy feat; it required a long list of accomplishments. His brother has one, meaning he had gained enough achievements and accomplishments to become a captain of a squad of four to five trainees under him.
Kairos had to nod in admiration. Becoming a captain in your twenties was no small feat it was far from easy.
He wondered, is this why his brother is always composed and indifferent to everything?.
Kairos thought about beheading another Dark Wolf and lunged towards him. The beasts they were facing mostly were second-tier beasts to occasional third-tier ones.
They were rushing out of the forest as fast as they could. In the midst of such chaos, killing them was far easier than facing them in the forest.
"Oh, three at the same time. Did I kill one of their herd?" Kairos uttered, seeing from the right side four dark wolves heading towards him.
’Still, just in case,’ Kairos slowly channeled some mana into the saddle. The mana passes through the small connectors attached to its body all the way towards its legs.
Right away, the shield mechanisms activated, creating transparent white shields surrounding its body.
"And now you guys."
Right, almost at the same time, all of the wolves lunged toward him. Kairos was already prepared. He unsheathed his sword and channeled his aura, letting it surge through his veins and collide within the nodes in his arms before unleashing it with a powerful slash.
Right away, instantly, before the wolves could react, it hit two of the wolves’ front paws, knocking them off. As for the other two, Kairos, noticing his range wasn’t enough to cover all four, swung his sword again, this time using the Sigil of Nullification.
The slash was far quicker this time. In a flash of light, Kairos’s blade cut clean through the air, passing the wolf before it could even react. A heartbeat later, the beast collapsed with a dull thud, its head rolling to the side.
Kairos nodded, looking at the results. Sigil of Nullification was really useful; it also enchanted his One-Cut swordsmanship.
"How did you actually learn to strike that way?"
Kairos turned around, it was his brother Nolen who was coming towards him. Unlike his horse, which was much bulkier and had many leather straps on it with runes, that was an official warhorse.
In his past life, Kairos didn’t have the ability to use one. But hopefully he will get one soon.
As for the question. Kairos didn’t plan to answer truthfully. "I practiced a lot."
Nolen frowned, of course not believing that; if practicing could make one’s strike stronger, he would have done so too.
"Oh, another wave is coming! Let’s focus," Kairos shouted, tugging the reins as he guided his horse towards the incoming pack of monsters.
Nolen watched him with suspicion but didn’t dwell on it. And got back to fighting monsters.
The number of beasts was thinning out strangely, and those that remained were all unusually strong. He also noticed something odd: those emerging from the forest were wolves and other fast creatures.
It looked like something was weeding out the slower beasts.
Before long, he realized his hunch was correct; some force was behind this odd thinning of the beasts.
Then a shout came from the side, Vulkrats incoming... everyone retreat!...
Nolen gazed at the edge of the forest. Waves of monsters were pouring in, but most were fighting each other.
As for the rest that were rushing forward, they are mostly stronger and faster than the rest or are just Vulkrats emitting white poison, causing other beasts to go mad.
"Everyone retreat. Let the Artelarists kill out the Vulkrats... All knights retreat."
Thus, as instructed, everyone started retreating. The white poison is something even knights themselves will get affected by.
Sir Aldric also decided to get back at Gates. It wasn’t because the paragon wasn’t able to protect him from the white poison; rather, it’s almost out of energy.
In just an hour, it had consumed more than a few dozen third tier cores, which is equal to three or five forth ranked beast cores, which are enough to buy and maintain the whole Nozvan estate for one month or two. That’s how consuming these machines are.
Still, Kairos couldn’t help but feel that having one of these is worth it. He hopped down from the horse. Swinging like that made his hand heavy all this time.
Swush
Swush
Swush
Gazing up, Kairos can see. The soldiers already started spamming arrows after arrows. With occasional explosions caused by Artelarists.
Intense may the situation be seen. His plan worked. The majority of the monsters were ripping each other, and the ones who were unaffected a while ago started to get affected.
The numbers were still high, though. Still, he could only imagine what the actual number would have been if he hadn’t put up this crazy plan.
Sighing and taking a deep breath, he calmed his mind. Their work is almost done. Artelarists will finish all this, although a few stronger monsters might show up. It was alright, they had that Delta, and her mother most probably can take another one head.
Upon thinking, he shifted towards the temporary camp where his mother was resting, scenes flashing again and the strange words he saw above his mother’s head.
’Let’s find out what that power was,’ Kairos thought and headed towards the temporary camp.
The power he saw, and those strange letters. He has to find out what that was about.
He pushed the curtain aside, and a rush of cold, dense air struck his face. Inside, his mother sat drenched in sweat despite the cold atmosphere. In front of her floated a glass-like sphere, mist swirling within it, most probably the source of this cold mist.
Valeria turned at the sound of his steps and managed a faint smile. "Oh, Kairos... it’s you."
Kairos nodded quietly and sat down on the log placed across from her, his eyes briefly drifting to the glass ball before Valeria interrupted him.
"You came. I suppose that means things are finally under control."
Kairos lifted his head. "Ah yes, Mother, it turned out among the surge, Vulkrats were present, causing most of the monsters to tear each other up... now Father and the soldiers are killing them using arrows."
"I see. So that was the case, the numbers were so low."
Before she gave a slow nod, "We are lucky, it seems."
Kairos nodded that was right. The number would have been quite higher than this if he didn’t stir those Vulkrats. Though now dealing with them can only be done by sosoldiers,nd Artelarists and knights are crippled for the current moment, it wasn’t bad at the outcome.
Now wait, He has more concerning matters! About that power.
"Mother, I want to ask something," Kairos spoke seriously.
Looking at her son’s eyes for a moment before nodding her head. "It’s about those strange letters, am I right, Kairos?"
Kairos nodded. "Yes, I want to know what that strange power was. I have never seen anything like that or read anything oninhe book."
Not even in books nor in all his years as a mercenary had he ever seen anything like it. If he could grasp even a fraction of that power, his strength would grow exponentially. He had to find out what it was.
Valeria smiled at his determined gaze and began her explanation, each word slowly shattering the world Kairos once knew, rebuilding it into something far greater than he had ever imagined.
