Chapter 625: Chapter 448 Resolution

He was already displeased because of Xia Liang. Now that someone was foolishly courting death, he certainly wasn’t going to let them get away.

But the next second, his smile froze, his eyes filling with confusion. The others around him wore the same expression. Their confusion stemmed from the distant figure; despite being shot, it hadn’t so much as flinched, remaining rigidly in place.

Instantly, Fang Liwen’s expression turned ugly. He immediately drew his gun.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

All three bullets struck the figure’s head, blowing it apart. But Fang Liwen’s expression held not a trace of relief, because even with most of his head gone, the figure remained standing stock-still, as if nothing had happened.

The next moment, a bolt of lightning struck with a deafening BOOM, illuminating most of the Mass Burial Mound and instantly revealing the distant figure to Fang Liwen and his men.

After getting a clear look at it, their expressions changed drastically, their faces draining of all color. Because the thing that stood before them wasn’t human at all. Its body was mangled, most of its head was blown off, and it looked more terrifying than any movie monster.

「A few seconds earlier, on the other side.」

The incessant ringing of a bell echoed. LINGLING. LINGLING.

Even with a knife pressed against his neck, Xia Liang simply continued to slowly shake the bell in his hand, showing no intention of stopping.

When the man in front of him realized Xia Liang was completely ignoring him, he let out a cold laugh and raised his knife.

"Kid, you asked for this."

Although he couldn’t kill Xia Liang, he could chop off his hand.

Just as he was about to bring the knife down, the man’s face turned ashen. He trembled as he looked down at his feet. A skeletal hand had erupted from the earth and was gripping his leg tightly.

The lightning that had illuminated the figure for Fang Liwen’s group faded, and it vanished from sight. The next second, all of their flashlights went out, a consequence of Xia Liang having altered their fates. They could only rely on the faint moonlight to see their immediate surroundings; anything further away was cloaked in darkness. Still, Fang Liwen and his men could vaguely discern a figure at the edge of their vision, standing stock-still.

Staring at the figure, Fang Liwen’s back was instantly drenched in cold sweat. The glimpse had been brief, but he had clearly seen what was out there.

"Boss, was that a hallucination?" one of the men beside Fang Liwen asked.

Fang Liwen opened his mouth, but his lips were too dry to speak. He managed to force the words out in a hoarse voice. "Quick, grab him! Let’s get out of here!"

Fang Liwen’s gaze remained fixed on the distant figure. He suddenly realized that his men, despite his order, weren’t moving. The next moment, before he could process why, he saw the distant figure twitch. Then, with a series of lurching hops, it began to slowly close in on them, just like the reanimated corpses from the old tales.

"A ghost! It’s a ghost! Run!"

Overwhelming terror seized Fang Liwen. He spun around, grabbing the man next to him, ready to flee.

But the next second, he froze, just like the man beside him. His expression went slack, then horror slowly crawled across his face. In the thin moonlight, his skin became paler than the surrounding tombstones. The overwhelming fear paralyzed him, rendering him unable to move.

In the center of the Mass Burial Mound, dozens of figures had appeared around Xia Liang. They were all dismembered and reeked of decay; some were nothing but glistening white bone. Dozens of corpses now stood beside Xia Liang, encircling him. The men he had sent to handle Xia Liang were lying on the ground, their faces pale and bloodless. They had clearly been scared to death.

BOOM!

Another bolt of lightning tore through the sky, illuminating the night. Figure after figure emerged from the darkness. Headless, dismembered, they all turned their gazes toward the center of the Mass Burial Mound—toward Fang Liwen and his men. It was obvious they were just like the things around Xia Liang. They weren’t alive.

It was as if every single corpse in the Mass Burial Mound had been resurrected.

Amidst the horror, Xia Liang simply smiled faintly, picked up his bell, and swayed it gently.

LINGLING.

LINGLING.

At the sound of the bell, the hundreds of surrounding corpses began to hop in unison, stretching out their arms. Hop by hop, the army of hundreds of corpses closed in on Fang Liwen and his men.

THUD! THUD!

With each lurching step, the very ground seemed to tremble. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

Their eyes were fixed on Xia Liang, standing in the center of the encircling horde of ghouls.
