I Became the Villainess, But My Beast Husbands Can Hear My Mind?!-Chapter 42: A Magician Who Brought Water
Roxanna didn’t believe it at first. She thought Commander Marlow was just joking. But after seeing how fast they could dig—even with their bare hands—she stopped doubting his words.
With only three people, they managed to dig a well ten meters deep in less than an hour. That time even included lining the inside with clay and river stones. But actually, most of the hard work was done by Calen and Marlow, while Luan stayed above, watching them like a supervisor.
the ground!"
The people in the settlement gasped when they saw water flowing up from the earth. Some of them rushed closer and gathered around the well, staring as the water slowly rose.
"Is this magic?!"
"Leader, did you use magic?!"
Roxanna felt a little overwhelmed as questions came at her all at once. She took a deep breath and tried to stay calm. "The water has always been there," she said gently. "It’s just been hidden underground."
She explained slowly, "The soil has absorbed rainwater for many years, and also seepage from the river that—" Roxanna stopped for a moment when the beastkins looked like they couldn’t process her words, and some of them even looked like they were about to vomit. "—Yes, this is magic."
"I knew it! Our leader is such a powerful fox! Your bloodline must have been blessed by your ancestors!"
"Wait, wait, wait, the water keeps flowing upward. Won’t it overflow?"
"Please, calm down," Roxanna reassured them. "Don’t worry, the water won’t overflow because the ground can absorb it back into the soil and—" she stopped mid-sentence again when the beasts stared at her as if they wanted to run away. "—Magic. There’s magic here."
She honestly didn’t believe they acted that way because they were stupid. The beastkins simply didn’t know many things or understand these kinds of theories, which was why they were confused.
Since Roxanna wanted to civilize them, she decided to share her modern knowledge with them little by little. Maybe she could start with something simple, like the alphabet.
Yeah, that sounded good for now. But perhaps she would teach her husbands first.
"Alright, now that the well has water, we can build the edge around it," Roxanna said as she explained everything to Calen and the others.
To her surprise, they understood her right away. In less than an hour, the well was completely finished.
"Now we just need something to replace a bucket..." Roxanna thought for a moment. "Ah, we can use a waterskin."
She wove wild rattan into a basket and lined it with a waterskin. Then she used tree bark fibers as a rope for the pulley, at least for now.
By the time the sun set, the well was ready to use. The beastkins took turns drawing water from it, laughing in amazement. They kept praising Roxanna, saying she was a great magician because the water never ran out, no matter how many times they pulled it up.
Meanwhile, inside the hut, Azul had finished building two separate rooms that they would use as a bathing area and a toilet. Zeir and Cyrus had also built a stove inside the hut, exactly as she had instructed.
They bonded the river stones with wild clay and made a chimney that extended upward to release the smoke from the fire. Right above the stove, she could use it for cooking, though she would probably need to buy some cooking utensils from the system.

[Congratulations, Host! Side Mission Complete: Complete the hut with a kitchen and a bathroom!]
[Reward:
+1 Magic Toilet — a wooden box that can be buried in the ground and dispose of waste immediately!
+1000 Spirit Points (SP)]
[Total Spirit Points (SP): 5,200]
Roxanna couldn’t help but clap her hands several times when the system gave her that notification.
[I finally don’t need to dig the ground anymore when I want to relieve myself!] Roxanna thought cheerfully. [And I can use water easily now, but... I still need to fill the wooden tub in the bathroom and in the toilet with water first. Well... I guess I have to go to the well again.]
"Roxanna, do you want me to bring water from the well to fill the tub?" Calen suddenly asked, making Roxanna startled because he had asked exactly what she had just been thinking about.
"O-oh, yes! I’d love that!" Roxanna smiled brightly. "Thank you, Calen!"
"I can do that for you too!" Luan immediately ran out of the hut first, but Calen grabbed the back of his hair, so he ended up walking ahead instead.
"Why can’t they stop fighting?" Cyrus shook his head and let out a tired sigh as they started to give him a headache. "How are they supposed to live in the same hut like this?"
Roxanna pressed her lips into a thin line, and Cyrus’s words made her think again that letting them live in the same place might have been a foolish decision.
"Actually... it’s fine if you want to live in your own huts," Roxanna said. "I mean, you can repair the damaged parts, and then we won’t have to share one hut together. After all, living together with so many people isn’t easy."
She lowered her head, staring at the floor.
[It actually reminded me of the time when I lived in a crowded orphanage,] she thought. [There was always noise, shouting, and barely any space. I hated it back then, so my husbands might hate it too.]
[But honestly, when I finally lived alone... I somehow missed that chaos.]
Roxanna had lived with her ex-husband for four years—two years before the apocalypse and two years in the shelter—but that experience couldn’t be compared to what she was experiencing now.
Back then, her ex-husband wasn’t always at home because he was busy, and she was the same. In the end, the house still felt empty, especially because she wasn’t able to have children.
But now... it felt completely different.
Even though she had only known her new husbands for a few days, they had taken care of her so well. And for some reason, Roxanna didn’t want to go too far away from them.
Maybe it had something to do with the mate bond. After all, this body had mated with all of these beastmen, but that didn’t seem to be the only reason.
Roxanna didn’t want to go far from them because her heart told her so.
