I Became the Villainess, But My Beast Husbands Can Hear My Mind?!-Chapter 205: Inherited Knowledge (1)
After Aelin promised she would teach Skiv how to make poison, the boy was no longer upset. Instead, his eyes lit up with excitement, as if he had already forgotten all about his earlier frustration.
"We can start the class tomorrow after lunch," Aelin said with a gentle smile.
"Class?" Skiv tilted his head, clearly confused, not quite understanding what she meant.
Roxanna answered instead of her, "Class is when someone teaches you something step by step, so you can learn it properly."
She smiled softly and added, "In this case, Aelin will teach you how to make poison."
Skiv’s eyes widened with curiosity. "So... it’s like training?"
"Mm, you can think of it that way," Roxanna replied patiently. "But a class is usually calmer. You listen, learn, and practice little by little."
Aelin nodded in agreement. "Don’t worry, I’ll make it easy for you to understand."
Skiv’s tail twitched behind him as excitement quickly filled his face again. "Then I’ll do my best!"
After that, Roxanna asked Skiv to go back to his hut since the sun was almost setting. She waved her hand to the boy and his chonky cat before finally returning to her own hut together with Aelin.
As they walked, Roxanna glanced at her and asked, "Was it my mother who told you about that term?"
Aelin nodded. "You mean ’class’? Yeah. She taught many new terms to my ancestors, and that knowledge was passed down to me."
Roxanna was silent for a moment. She kicked a small pebble along the path, watching it roll forward with each light tap.
"Aelin," she called softly. "I know my mother passed away a long time ago, but... did she ever fall in love with someone when she lived in the Golden Tribe?"
If Michaela had conceived Roxanna not out of love, but because of something terrible, then she believed her mother would not have found it easy to form a relationship with anyone.
But deep inside, she still hoped... hoped that her mother had once been happy, even if that happiness didn’t include her.
"No." Aelin’s answer was simple, but it broke that small hope. "Your mother chose to dedicate her life to sharing knowledge and learning new things instead of getting into a relationship."
She added, "From what I heard, she always said she didn’t want to waste her time chasing anyone’s love. Not a man’s, not a woman’s."
Roxanna let out a soft sigh and lowered her head. "I see..." she murmured. "That’s... a bit sad."
After that, Roxanna didn’t say anything else, and Aelin seemed to understand why she didn’t want to continue the conversation.
When they arrived home, Cyrus had cooked dinner for them. Unfortunately, Zeir was busy doing something important, such as checking the quality of their weapons, so he didn’t eat dinner with them.
"He probably won’t eat if it gets too late," Calen said as he reached for Zeir’s share of grilled meat, but Cyrus quickly slapped his hand away.
"Whether he wants to eat it or not, we still have to leave his portion," Cyrus said as he narrowed his eyes at Calen. "You’ve already eaten two portions of meat. If you eat more, your stomach will become as round as a watermelon."
Calen shrugged. "What’s wrong with having a round belly? Roxanna won’t leave me just because of that, right, wife?"
Roxanna had been lost in her thoughts, so when Calen tapped her shoulder, she flinched slightly. "Huh?" she said, blinking in confusion. "What are you talking about?"
Calen frowned. "Wife, what’s wrong?"
Since his wife didn’t seem to be in a good mood, of course Calen wouldn’t bring up the topic about a round belly to her.
"Ah, nothing!" Roxanna quickly shook her head. "I’m just... sleepy. Yes, that’s all!"
But her thoughts were still restless. [The fact that my mother never had the love of her life throughout her life really bothers me.] Roxanna thought. [If only I could stop thinking about it.]
Her husbands exchanged glances, but none of them spoke. After all, Roxanna hadn’t said what was on her mind, and they didn’t want to push her too hard.
Besides, it was clear that she needed some time alone.
"Then I’ll prepare the bed so you can rest," Azul said gently.
Right after that, Aelin stretched her arms and let out a yawn. "Yeah... I think I’ll go to sleep too."
It was only natural for her to feel sleepy since Aelin had been walking around the entire Vixeria Tribe all day.
She stood up and headed toward the separate bedroom. "Good night. See you tomorrow."
The moment Aelin closed the door, Azul immediately prepared the floor mattress for them. He then patted the empty space in the middle. "Here, you can sleep here."
They all knew Roxanna wasn’t in a good mood, so no one argued about who should lie next to her.
In the end, Azul and Cyrus were the ones lying right beside her. All of them had a long day as well, so it didn’t take long for them to fall asleep.
But for some reason, Roxanna wasn’t able to sleep even though she tried hard to close her eyes.
After a while, she carefully slipped out of bed and picked up the book her mother had left behind. She didn’t want to disturb her sleeping husbands, so she decided to read the book outside the hut.
The system had already scanned the entire book, so she could read it through the floating panel. But still... she wanted to hold the real book in her hands.
Maybe... it made her feel closer to her mother.
As she sat on the edge of the porch with her legs hanging freely, Roxanna suddenly heard the system’s voice in her head.
[Ding! Ding!]
