I Became the Moon Goddess' Apostle in a Dark Fantasy-Chapter 45: The Rest of The Team
Sigh!
He sighed internally.
’I knew this was sounding too good to be true.’
"Errr..."
Raven didn’t know how to reply to that.
"Why that might be the case, Grand Inquisitor?"
"When I was conducting investigations, I received some ’orders’ from above to release you specifically."
So it was about Eve.
Well, it wasn’t exactly his fault, was it?
"I also heard you used her name in vain, many times before as well." He continued his words.
’It’s my sister, you fucking retard. Why is it bothering you so much?’
He wanted to say that aloud, but he couldn’t. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
"I..." Raven wasn’t sure if he really should say his next words or not, but in the end, he decided to just go with it.
"I personally believe in using everything in my arsenal to my advantage, Grand Inquisitor."
He said it.
He knew this wasn’t the most optimal response for him to follow up with.
But he said his piece.
He couldn’t bear people like him.
It was his sister, and his situation to handle.
Being a person of the modern world, his mind was very much a firm believer in free speech.
And such power backing him did make him arrogant to an extent.
He didn’t mind bowing down to people, but that didn’t mean he let people trample over him.
The room’s mood had shifted quite a lot in mere seconds after their entering the room.
Janet and Pevon feared the Grand Inquisitor would snap back.
But at the same time, they also thought what he said was right.
Just like how one can’t blame a poor man for being born in poverty, one can’t blame him for being born in such luxury.
With a sister like that.
And why was it wrong to use the backing to his advantage?
The Grand Inquisitor leaned forward, his tone getting a lot more serious.
"Do you even know whose presence you are sitting in?"
He said, as his left red eye suddenly lit up.
"I am not only a Grand Inquisitor of the Church of Solis, but also your direct superior."
Raven’s heartbeat was racing, but he could not back down anymore.
The bullet had left the barrel, and now, there was no mulling over the fired shot.
He kept staring directly into his eyes for a while.
Until finally, the Grand Inquisitor leaned back on his chair and said, "I would like to see the same confidence in your missions as well."
Raven hesitated, but replied, "I will try my best, Grand Inquisitor."
Despite his ego, he also knew where to draw the line.
And this was exactly the place to draw one.
He had basically given him a chance.
By not pushing this any further.
"Can I expect little to no involvement of Cardinal Eve Marlowe in this from now on, Mr. Marlowe?" He asked, not even looking at the trio in front of him.
"I will try my best, Grand Inquisitor." He repeated his own words.
The Grand Inquisitor stared at him silently again.
Knock! Knock!
Two consecutive knocks echoed in the room.
"Come in!" The tone of his voice shifted immediately.
Back to the normal tone he had when he first welcomed them.
Everyone turned back, seemingly anticipating their new teammates.
Two beautiful young ladies entered the room.
The first one entering had crimson red hair flowing down her neck.
Her bright red eyes complemented her greatly, and her expressions really suited the overall color scheme.
She looked a bit pissed off at something, but Raven immediately concluded that it wasn’t the case.
Not many people had the guts to be angry at the first meeting with a Grand Inquisitor.
She was also donning the green chasuble, just like everyone else in the church, but she clearly had put a lot of thought behind her appearance.
And the second lady was special.
She was an extremely gorgeous, dark-skinned lady with brown hair and hazel eyes, greatly befitting the shade of her skin.
She was a tad bit taller than the other lady, and her build was also more defined.
But unlike the red-haired lady, her makeup was a lot more subtle, and she gave off a vibe of a diplomat.
Raven guessed that she was most likely from the Nerathy Principality, a principality located South of the Ivory Kingdom and East of the Castille Dominion.
Since the project was a combined effort from Cardinals from all over the world, it wasn’t a surprise that someone from the Nerathi Principality was here.
"Welcome to my humble abode, ladies." He began the same way as before.
Something about his attitude made Raven think that this guy was narcissistic and attention-seeking.
But he didn’t say anything.
"It’s an honor to meet you, Grand Inquisitor," They said in unison.
"Calm down," He said, making Raven feel a sense of Déjà vu from his actions. "Grab a seat, both of you."
"So, Carrol Reeves," He said, looking at the red-haired lady, then rotating his head towards the dark-skinned lady, "and Zuri Zahara."
"Meet your teammates for quite a while."
Everyone in the room began looking at each other, measuring each other’s worth instantly.
Raven didn’t remember either of them, which meant they either had a not-so-special performance or they performed rather late.
But the two ladies recognized the duo immediately.
Who wouldn’t?
The duo that absolutely dominated the second phase of the screening test.
The most talked about people from the facility, and certainly two of the most talented folks in there.
"Now, now," The Grand Inquisitor interrupted, "Finish the introductions after you exit this office, since we have a rather pressing issue on our hands right now."
Everyone looked at him, their faces immediately turning dead serious.
"Since you already know that this team would be the first to head out for the mission, I would get straight to the point."
As instructed, the two newcomers finally grabbed a seat each and perked up their ears.
"The first mission for the Abiter Order would be an investigative mission."
