Chapter 52: We’ll Move Out Right Away

"Mother, Big Brother poisoned someone at the Helian Royal Mansion, and now people from the mansion are here to make arrests! What are we going to do?" Having grown up in the Capital City, Xiang Mingli knew the stakes. The crime of one person could bring down the entire clan.

"Your brother wouldn’t be so foolish. We don’t know the full story yet. Come on, let’s go to the front hall and see." Though Old Madam Xiang’s words were dismissive, her body couldn’t help but tremble.

「The front courtyard of the General’s Mansion.」

When the butler from the Helian Royal Mansion saw Xiang Minghou emerge, he rushed forward and grabbed his arm. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

"General Xiang, the old prince is in critical condition! Even the Imperial Physicians can’t counteract the poison. The Prince sent me to find you and bring Miss Xiang back to the mansion."

"Alright."

By the time Old Madam Xiang and Xiang Mingli rushed to the front hall, the men from the Helian Royal Mansion had just left with Xiang Minghou and Ye Qianning.

"Mother, did you see that? The General’s Mansion is doomed!" Naturally timid, Xiang Mingli was so frightened he collapsed onto the floor.

"We don’t even know what’s going on, and you’re already in such a state. Have you no shame?" Old Madam Xiang scolded.

"I don’t care! Big Brother is the poisoner, it has nothing to do with us! Mother, I don’t want to die!"

"Mother, poisoning is a capital crime! When they launch a full investigation, no one in the General’s Mansion will escape. We need to act now while this is just beginning and save who we can," Mrs. Wang added, thoroughly terrified herself.

In that instant, her long-held dream of her son inheriting the General’s Mansion evaporated into thin air.

Xiang Mingli scrambled up from the floor. "Mother, let’s go hide somewhere for now. If an imperial edict comes to confiscate the estate, you must tell them we’ve already formally separated from the main family!"

At her age, Old Madam Xiang couldn’t handle such a fright. But with the two of them shrieking in panic, she too was at a loss. She could only watch helplessly as they scurried back to their courtyard as if their lives depended on it.

「Helian Royal Mansion.」

Xiang Minghou stepped out of the carriage, carrying Ye Qianning in his arms. Prince Helian immediately rushed over and quickly explained the situation.

"We’ll have to ask for your help again, little one." Prince Helian was truly out of options.

"The old prince’s poison isn’t incurable. Your Highness can rest assured."

’I can’t believe the palace’s Imperial Physicians can’t even handle this poison,’ Ye Qianning thought. ’The compound toxin is potent, but the right combination of herbal remedies should be able to slow its progression. It might be a slow process, but it would work.’

Hearing her words, Prince Helian felt a weight lift from his heart. He was filled with admiration for Ye Qianning. This little girl was somehow more reassuring than the Imperial Physicians from the palace.

Inside the room, the four Imperial Physicians wore troubled expressions. There were many reasons they dared not prescribe any medicine.

The old prince had other pre-existing conditions. If the medicine was too potent and harmed him, they would be held responsible.

If it was too weak to counteract the poison and he died, they would lose their heads.

Their only option now was to implore the Prince to let the acupuncturist handle the treatment. The placement of the silver needles on the old prince’s body was sharp and precise—a technique that required decades of practice to master. Surely, the one responsible must have a way to cure the poison.

As Ye Qianning entered the room, she observed the expressions on the Imperial Physicians’ faces. While some of it was shock, she also detected a hint of slyness.

"Miss Xiang." The Imperial Physician who had watched her place the needles hurried over.

"Uncle Physician, the poison has been temporarily suppressed. Why haven’t you administered the antidote yet?" Ye Qianning asked, tilting her head up.

"Well..." The Imperial Physician hesitated.

"Little one, the old prince’s constitution is weak, making the poison difficult to purge," Imperial Doctor Zhang said, stepping forward. "Since you were able to apply the needles, you must be able to provide the cure as well."

"And what if I can’t cure the poison?" Ye Qianning retorted.

Imperial Doctor Zhang froze.

"If I fail to cure the poison, what will become of you all?" Ye Qianning saw right through their petty intentions.

’I knew it,’ she thought. ’The poison is rare, but it’s not so complex that it’s incurable.’

’They just don’t want to take responsibility, so they’re trying to push it all onto a child like me.’
