I became the Counterpart of the Winner in a Period Novel-Chapter 222 - 219: Fate Brought Us Together
There was indeed a roe deer, quite a coincidence, and it was precisely the roe deer crashing into them that separated the two.
Bai Meimei was relieved their separation was timely, otherwise Xia Xiaosi would have caught them.
Now by chasing the roe deer, Xia Xiaosi’s attention is perfectly diverted.
Xia Xiaosi was genuinely interested; heaven knows the last time she went up the mountain, she didn’t even see half an eggshell and ended up getting lost.
In the city, Xia Xiaosi was invincible, but in the countryside, she suffered many setbacks, damaging her self-esteem.
But as the three chased, they found themselves getting further and further away. Just as they were about to catch up with the roe deer, a fluffy white cub appeared before them, Bai Meimei took a liking to it at first sight.
She directly picked up the cub.
This one was hers, and Xia Xiaosi shouldn’t even consider snatching it from her.
Yu Qiuqiu, being more knowledgeable, frowned and suggested putting it down, but Bai Meimei was reluctant to let go of the cub she had caught. For some reason, Yu Qiuqiu indulged her.
Xia Xiaosi had a bad feeling, even though she also liked the adorable white bundle. She felt something was off, after all, it was a wild animal, they should identify its species first.
However, the chased roe deer seemed to have gained some intelligence. Seeing them motionless, it stopped and turned to look at them, making the trio unable to dwell on the cub for now. They continued chasing, given they had pursued it over several mountains, and its capture was imminent.
Humans have a desire to win, especially when they’re young like the three.
Just as they were about to catch the roe deer, an unexpected obstacle emerged.
A large white creature suddenly appeared out of nowhere, biting through the roe deer’s neck, causing the scent of blood to fill the air. The brutal scene scared the souls out of the three, leaving them dumbfounded and unsure of how to react. Luckily, their dazed state didn’t last long as Yu Qiuqiu was the first to react, his voice trembling with fear.
"It’s a... a wolf." Realizing what it meant, he turned to look at the cub in Bai Meimei’s arms, his voice breaking in fear.
"Quick, put it down, let’s run." Without a second thought, Yu Qiuqiu grabbed Bai Meimei’s hand to flee, but Bai Meimei’s eyes swiftly turned, and in the next moment, the cub was shoved into Xia Xiaosi’s arms.
By then, even the clueless Xia Xiaosi understood the cub was a wolf pup, the white wolf must have come to find her child. Yet, seeing the white wolf’s hostile glare towards them, it must have assumed they intended to harm its child.
However, no matter how brave Xia Xiaosi was, she didn’t dare to confront a wolf. Just as she was about to flee, the white bundle was thrust into her arms, making Xia Xiaosi tremble with fear. Meanwhile, the white creature let out a roar, suddenly leapt at her with its mouth wide open, and Xia Xiaosi realized her fate would soon be like that of the roe deer.
But... it was so unfair, she shouldn’t have gone up the mountain alone.
Facing death, she longed for home, her mom, dad, brother, sister, the Four Treasures of the Study, and Yueyue.
Yet the anticipated pain didn’t arrive, instead, she found herself falling into someone’s embrace. When everything calmed down, she realized she was being held while rolling down the mountain.
Jiang Jian Country had originally gone up the mountain to water a big tree but, while pulling up his pants, inadvertently glanced up to see a cluster of unknown wildflowers halfway up the mountain.
He thought Yueyue would surely like them, so he climbed up to pick some. On his return, he happened to hear a wolf’s howl, alarmingly close.
Even a big man like him was so scared that, in his fright, he dropped the hard-earned flowers down the mountain. Turning around, he saw an impressively large white wolf charging at a girl. Jiang Jian Country’s body reacted faster than his mind. In the next second, he pulled the girl towards him, but his footing was unsteady. Before he knew it, he’d rolled down the mountain with the girl in his arms.
Although they were disheveled, they had indeed escaped the wolf’s claws.
Xia Xiaosi couldn’t care less about male-female differences. She’d nearly lost her life. Fortunately, amidst the panic, she threw the cub back to the white wolf, which perhaps was why it didn’t pursue them.
Yet neither dared to slack off. Jiang Jian Country mounted the bicycle while Xia Xiaosi, without saying a word, sat on the seat. When they’d covered some distance and no white wolf chased after them, Xia Xiaosi finally called to stop.
"Comrade, thank you for saving me earlier, I was nearly the wolf’s meal today if it weren’t for you.
By the way, I’m a youth sent to Liu Village, my name is Xia Xiaosi."
The young lady graciously extended her hand, and Jiang Jian Country couldn’t hesitate, especially as he was now the village chief of Qingshan Village.
"Hello, I’m Jiang Jian Country from Qingshan Village. No need to thank me. I just happened to come across you. Anyone else would have done the same."
Someone else?
Xia Xiaosi lowered her head, her initial fear giving way to clarity. The crisis then became clearer and clearer, making Xia Xiaosi think she’d never forget it in her lifetime.
Bai Meimei was from her dorm, often sharing her things, especially the good stuff Yueyue brought last time.
Yet, in a critical moment, she tried to get her killed.
If Bai Meimei had put the wolf pup down, taking advantage of the white wolf’s reunion with its cub, all three could probably have escaped. Instead, she maliciously shifted the trouble to Xia Xiaosi, leaving her to bear the brunt of the white wolf’s fury alone. Fortunately, she was rescued; otherwise, the snarling wolf would probably have bitten through her neck and devoured her alive.
Wait, Jiang Jian Country? Qingshan Village?
"Do you... do you know Yueyue? That pretty Little Yueliang? Ah! What am I saying, that’s it, Jiang Mingyue, do you know her?"
This time, it was Jiang Jian Country’s turn to be dumbfounded.
The girl had just stood motionless, waiting for the wolf’s attack, making him dumbfounded.
And now, even more so.
What was going on?
"And you are?"
Xia Xiaosi saw his reaction and was almost sure.
"I’m Xia Xiaosi, Yueyue’s childhood friend. You know Shu Wenquan, right? We grew up playing together."
Finally, Jiang Jian Country remembered, his family Yueyue had mentioned it before, but he’d never met her, so he didn’t recall well.
"So you’re Xia Xiaosi, the youth sent to Liu Village?"
"Absolutely, I assure you. If you don’t believe it, let’s ask Yueyue."
Jiang Jian Country’s head heated up, "Sure, then come with me."
Xia Xiaosi: Okay, I’ll go, after all, I can ride the bike without walking, and with someone leading the way to find Yueyue, it saves a lot of trouble.
What Xia Xiaosi didn’t know was that Jiang Jian Country initially intended to send her back to Liu Village.
Meanwhile, Fang Tao and Bai Meimei descended from the mountain to the spot where they’d just been.
Bai Meimei saw that instead of being wolf food, Xia Xiaosi had gained a bicycle-riding man, making her heart fill with jealousy.
Why?
A woman who worked like a man, what was so great about her?
Fang Tao pampered her so much.
The village chief’s family also protected her.
Even Yu Qiuqiu initially favored Xia Xiaosi.
Bai Meimei felt these men had to be blind.
"Meimei... Mei..."
"Hmm," Bai Meimei withdrew her gaze, looking down at her toes.
Yu Qiuqiu sighed in relief.
"Luckily, luckily, we’re all safe. It must be because you took its child that you angered it. We should be careful next time."
Bai Meimei unhappily pulled back her hand, coldly looked at Yu Qiuqiu: "Yu Qiuqiu, do you still have feelings for her?"
