Chapter 283: Chapter 281: Relinquishing Command (Part 2)

Jiang Yishan never expected that the Freedom Army big shot, whom they had been searching for over ten years, always elusive, was actually this seemingly gentle, harmless "nephew"!

No wonder Yang Zhou was willing to send such a capable Information Officer as a trusted aide to Chu Yunyi, because he was actually one of Chu Yunyi’s men, and even Yang Zhou was just working for Chu Yunyi!

Chu Yunyi indeed didn’t have to worry about Jiang Yishan’s confidants leaving; instead, he wanted them to leave quickly so he could arrange for those truly loyal to him to come in and completely transform the Second Army into his own force.

No one knows exactly how many people are in the Freedom Army, but it’s definitely more than the tens of thousands currently exposed. If Chu Yunyi wanted to, he could even replace the entire Second Army.

He was wrong! How could he think that Chu Yunyi was an easy-to-manipulate pushover; he was clearly a cunning wolf in disguise!

So, does this mean that Chu Yunyi was aware of the Chu Family properties and shops that were taken over by Moonrise using various tactics and those shady business competitions?

No wonder those properties and businesses started losing money as soon as they reached the Jiang Family!

The thought that Chu Yunyi had been watching him and his son jump around like clowns for so many years made Jiang Yishan’s face burn, and his chest felt incredibly stifled.

Zhou Wu timely presented a freshly prepared document, placing it before Jiang Yishan. As soon as Jiang Yishan signed and stamped it, the highest command of the Second Army, from a legal standpoint, would be transferred to the designated person in the document.

The transfer of authority within the legion is a complicated and lengthy process, taking at least a week, but with Zhou Wu present, this process could be shortened to a few hours.

Jiang Yishan knew that this document was actually Chu Yunyi leaving him with a face-saving exit. By signing it, he could maintain the reputation of giving way to the able. If he failed to adapt, then the casualty list in a few days might include an additional name.

Without hesitation, Jiang Yishan signed his name, stamped the document, pushed it forward, and rose from his chair.

"Chu Yunyi, the position of commander is yours. I hope you will not abandon it after use; the Second Army, after all, is humanity’s shield and should not be taken lightly."

Chu Yunyi nodded, "I won’t."

Just then, the office door opened. Jiang Yishan thought his trusted aide finally realized he was in trouble, looking up with hope, only to lower his head in disappointment.

The person who came in was another of Chu Yunyi’s trusted aides.

Zheng Qi: "Master, Zhao Yi has brought people here."

Chu Yunyi: "Hmm, have him take over the entrances and exits. No one is to leave the fortress without my permission!"

"Zheng Qi, personally escort the Jiang Family Master back."

"Yes!"

Zheng Qi politely extended a hand to Jiang Yishan, "Jiang Family Master, please!"

Jiang Yishan took one last look at the commander’s office, turned, and walked towards the door, his figure radiating a deep sense of defeat.

Chu Yunyi’s voice came from behind:

"Uncle Jiang, if you’re willing, the Jiang Family can still cooperate with the Second Army, and the division of Star Beast spoils won’t change. If Moonrise’s capabilities meet the requirements, I might consider making him the next commander."

Jiang Yishan was stunned for a good seven or eight seconds before speaking softly, "Thank you."

Li Xing sat cross-legged in the detention room, the distant chaotic footsteps and voices intermittently reaching her ears. The whole fortress today gave her one feeling: chaos.

Could something have happened to Chu Yunyi?

A hurried set of footsteps approached rapidly. Zhang Feng ran over, panting, and opened the iron door. It was hard to tell if he was shaking from being out of breath or from emotions, as the key took quite some time to finally open the rusty iron door.

"Miss Li, good afternoon—"

Li Xing raised an eyebrow. This person usually addressed her with "hey" and "hey," never even calling her name. Why was he being so formal today?

Zhang Feng stood nervously in front of Li Xing, hands hanging down cautiously as he spoke, "Miss Li, the commander instructed me to change your room. Please follow me."

Li Xing stared at him for a long time, only standing up leisurely after Zhang Feng began to sweat, following him out of the detention room.

Zhang Feng led Li Xing for quite a long distance, even leaving the prison area entirely. If she hadn’t felt no malice from Zhang Feng, Li Xing would have suspected the Second Army was planning to silence her.

After a full half-hour walk, Zhang Feng finally stopped at a door that looked like it belonged to a senior officer’s lounge, using a card to swipe it open.

"Miss Li, this is your new room. While you cannot access the internet, all facilities are provided. Here is the key card; keep it safe!"

After placing the card in Li Xing’s hand, Zhang Feng even saluted her before running off as if his pants were on fire.

Li Xing stared at the empty corridor, her mind full of questions. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

No guards, and she was entrusted with the key card herself—was this an intentional flaw to let her escape?

Li Xing stood at the door for a full minute, unable to comprehend what the Second Army was up to. If they wanted to use such reverse psychology tactics to add charges to her, they were certainly making a mistake.

She had no intention of escaping!

Li Xing stepped into the luxurious room, locked the door, flopped onto the soft bed, and closed her eyes to rest.

She slept until the moon was up, stretching comfortably. Although she could now recover her strength through meditation, sleeping was still the best way to relax her body and mind and eliminate fatigue.

Li Xing got up and poured herself a glass of water, just about to order something to eat when there was a knock at the door.

Li Xing opened the door to find that the visitor was Chu Yunyi. She quickly invited him in.

Chu Yunyi stood at the entrance, surveying the entire room. This room didn’t quite meet his requirements, but it was already the highest standard in the Second Army. Fortunately, Li Xing didn’t stay here long-term, so it was barely acceptable.

Gallantly pulling out a chair for Li Xing and then sitting across from her, Chu Yunyi gently asked:

"Ah Xing, did I disturb your rest?"

Li Xing shook her head, "No."

Chu Yunyi looked the same as usual, but the exhaustion in his eyes was not something Li Xing could miss. Besides, she knew Chu Yunyi’s physical condition best, and today’s turmoil probably shaved off some of his lifespan.

"I was just about to eat. Would you like to join me?"

"Sure."

Chu Yunyi’s takeover of Jiang Yishan’s military power was a spur-of-the-moment decision, leading to a huge amount of work and arrangements to be made.

Luckily, he had the support of excellent Freedom Army leaders like Zhou Wu, Zheng Qi, and Zhao Yi, but the bigshots in the upper echelons still needed Chu Yunyi to personally reassure and mediate.

He hadn’t even had time to drink a drop of water that day, and he was utterly exhausted and starving.

Li Xing ordered two working meals, and the two of them ate quietly with heads down. After half an hour, the dishes were cleared, leaving two cups of hot tea on the table.
