Chapter 6: 6:Chaos Dweller

An old man stood atop the exposed portion of the skyscraper, caressing his long beard. He looked at the blazing flames outside and then turned around.

In an instant, the once-jubilant human world, filled with towering structures, seemed like a rotten, festering wasteland, because beyond the City lay world corrupted by the advent of Chaos.

In a world abandoned by the Gods, survival was nothing more than a futile struggle, until humanity carved a path through the chaos.

Though abandoned you can find many foolish ones still praying to those lofty bastards when it was the Domain formed by the Monarch that block the invasion of Chaos.

"The world is already on the path of ruin, yet some conceited fool still can’t keep his attitude in check..."

"Ohh God! Let me die before my eyes bleed from witnessing the destruction of a human child."

As he lamented, a voice echoed behind him.

"Old man, please stop with your antics and get in the office. Don’t be so pessimistic."

... 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Inside the main office of Apollo Innovation.

In the center of the huge, spacious expanse, a man sat on the chair, folding his legs, tapping on the armrest with a cold expression.

"What a retard? Preventing the owner from entering his own house? Just where will you find such idiots if not nobles."

"From today, cut off all the electricity supply to the Marquise Roose territory. On second note, others might suffer, so make sure to only cut off the main estate and businesses backed by him."

"And if they ask the reason, tell them it is because they offended the workers of the company, and also from now on all the deals will be cut off."

"Jameson, make sure to send them the notice today."

A deep silence prevailed for a moment, and the old man with a cascading beard caressed it with a chuckle.

"Did that bastard piss you off too much, Lord Noel?" Jameson asked with a frown as his gaze lingered on Noel.

Noel raised his eyes and looked at the old man.

He was the chief researcher of the institution.

An Order 9 Archmage and a brilliant engineer.

As for the question of who was the king of this huge business Empire.

It was none other than him.

Noel De Nova...

Knowing his own uselessness, he started searching for other means to contribute to the house. By studying the world and current scientific developments, he knew he could do many things.

He was an engineer in his past life, and he was especially good with engines and motors, so he started designing them.

With enough influence, he hired mages, craftsmen, and Magic Engineers who studied machines, bound them with contracts, and started working with them.

Even with his knowledge, he could only come up with normal designs whose created drawback was pollution. The pollution had a grave effect here because it interfered with mana.

In a world where mana is the fundamental energy used by all life forms, polluted mana with impurities lowers a person’s efficiency, so his beginning models were all banned and reserved for Nobles.

He didn’t like it, but what could he do?

He was not a genius or a researcher. All he did was copy the works of the previous world but wasn’t able to make them adapt to the current world.

That was when Jameson came up with mana engine models. An engine that was fueled by mana stones and could use batteries and electricity for additional supply.

This was how transport became widespread. Still, it was hard for many commoners to buy it, as the fuel was still costly.

Even though Jameson came up with this, he knew that all this was made possible because of the boy.

When he was called to talk with a 5-year-old boy, he was quite angry because he knew that this was a waste of time, but what could he do?

He couldn’t ignore the Grand Duke unless he had a death wish, so he reluctantly agreed.

But the things that happened after...

...

I pondered for a moment and looked at Jameson as he posed me the question.

"It was never about me, Jameson."

"If he disrespected me by calling me trash and other things, I wouldn’t have minded, but he knew exactly who I am and whose house I belong to, yet he showed me blatant disrespect as if House Nova isn’t worth anything..."

"I understand this; after all, everyone thinks that Nova will be finished with me still...."

Jameson shivered, witnessing the coldness flickering in my eyes.

"Ahem!"

Coughing to smoothen the mood, he asked, "Are you sure you don’t want to go through the process?"

"It might really alleviate your body and aptitude."

I shook my head, denying him.

"There is a difference between taking risks and gambling," I answered, shaking my head.

With vast resources at my disposal, I created a team that researched my body, and after going through a full body checkup, the only possibility they could derive from my trash body was that both my father’s and mother’s genes are so strong that neither of the two was able to express fully in my genes, creating a recessive effect.

As for inheriting the power of mystic, it’s not a sure thing.

That’s why, though my aptitude and talent were poor, that didn’t mean I didn’t have advantages.

Through experiments, it had been found that I had a great metabolism and my body recovered faster; wounds healed quite quickly.

That was also the reason I managed to push myself without severe effects, because my body took everything it was beaten with.

But recently these bloody bastards had been studying some nefarious things and wanted to modify my body.

Like hell I would give my body to these shitheads.

Only Gods know what they will do with me once I have been taken to the lab.

"Let’s stop this useless banter and give me the thing I came here for."

I looked at Jameson and asked, "Did you manage to do it?"

"Of course, we managed to make it," Jameson smiled and took out a smartwatch.

Extending my hand, I grabbed it and put the smartwatch on my wrist.

[BEEP...BEEP...BEEP]

[Scanning host mana signatures..]

[Host Noel De Nova...Identification successful.]

[Studying body conditions...Studying stats...]

Name: Noel De Nova

Species: Half Human/Chaos Dweller

Mana Core Rank: Brass

Blessings: None

Being in a world that used to be governed by Gods, there have been tablets made by churches that can access the stats and realm of a person.

So, you might be curious how the realm of a person is divided.

It was the same stereotypical bullshit power-up.

Assimilate the mana and form a core.

Simple, isn’t it?

However, it isn’t, because unlike the novels where the core has to be in the torso, here you can build your core anywhere.

In your head, chest, knees, waist....in every possible position.

Let’s not talk about those idiots who want to make it in their dick to power it up to gain a few more inches, or in the brain only to die of a tumor.

You need to have a place that makes the mana inside it accessible to the whole body, yet it isn’t interfering with the organs.

But it’s not just about forming a mana core, rather forming a core with mystic power.

As for what mystic is... Mystic is a superpower or ability a person possesses.

You can think of it like superpowers that grow as your mana rank increases.

Now the realms of the mana core were based on color.

Beginning from crude rust-red iron, shedding impurities and taking a golden color until it becomes colorless.

Copper, Brass, Bronze, Gold, Mithril, Platinum, Adamantium, Radiant, Dawn, DemiGod.

Ten realms in exact.

For Mages, it’s Order 1 to Order 10.

For monsters and all those, it’s from F to EX.

A normal human has a stat of 1, and each realm gives a maximum of 10, ending with Demigod hitting 100.

But I know one thing.

I don’t give a fuck about my realm, stats, and numbers, nor do I believe that all these can give an assessment of a person.

I looked at the display screen that showed countless tiny dots and then at Jameson.

"Is this accurate?"

"99.99%," Jameson replied, rubbing his mustache.

"Who ate that 0.01%?"

"If you aren’t satisfied, give it back," Jameson grumbled and extended his hand to grab it back, but I shook away his paws.

"When did I say that?" I snorted and then went over the watch’s features.

Every Adventurer Guild and Church had tablets that could scan one’s stats and power.

I decided to replicate it by making a small version and fitting it into a smartwatch.

That’s not the only function of it.

It comes with additional specs that can scan the mana waves emitted from the body and identify the real level of the person.

A living being is bound to emit some radiation, so with those specs that were connected to the smartwatch that regularly scans the surroundings, I could even know the presence of people hiding in the dark.

I have worked too hard to make this, and it took many years for this to finally come to fruition.

"I also have another gift." Jameson rummaged through his robe and then threw a small stick.

I caught the small stick with a frown.

"Click the button, and pour the mana."

I followed his instructions and then—

SWOOSH!

A beam of condensed light shot out, making me scream.

"HOLY SHIT....A LIGHT SABER...."

"Light Saber..." Jameson scratched his cheek and murmured, "That’s a good name. You can also adjust.."

Ignoring his mumbling, my eyes locked onto the lightsaber.

It wasn’t just a simple sword.

The blade emitter isn’t just simple mana; rather, it’s condensed aura.

Aura...

A purified form of highly concentrated mana that allows a knight to turn even a blunt blade into the sharpest weapon.

Only through repeated purifications and practice can one use aura. Generally, one needs to be in Gold to use aura, or someone with high talent, but now...

This thing was simply absorbing my mana and changing it into aura.

"Is there also a recharge option? I mean, can I store my mana and use it later to condense it?"

Jameson frowned and answered, "No, did you forget we have already failed so many times and are still researching it?"

"Tsk!"

I clicked my tongue in annoyance.

Recently, they have been working on crafting a battery capable of storing mana, but our luck seems to be bad.

The battery they were creating wasn’t an artifact used by mages, but a simple battery that can be used by unawakened humans without requiring activation.

The materials we tested till now weren’t able to hold the mana for a prolonged period and often resulted in explosions.

This world had various new types of ores and metals, but finding a suitable one outside my knowledge was quite tough.

"That’s a negative point... Still, I will make sure to use it well and spread your damn feats around." I smiled.

Hearing this, Jameson’s expression changed. "No... You don’t need to do all that bullshit and taint my name. With the number of hideous things you have done, you are already the world’s number one heretic. I don’t want my name added to that."

My happy face cracked, and I snorted.

Some people just don’t know how to appreciate it.
