Chapter 22 - “An Extinct What?”:2

Professor Veyra turned from the board, her cloak swayed in the air slightly because of her movement.

Just then, Raen raised his hand. His voice was respectful but clear.

"Professor, you just mentioned the hidden sword technique. Is it... related to the extinct style which once was used by the Sword God?"

The room was filled with the silence.

Veyra's eyes narrowed a bit. "So you have heard of that technique, huh?"

Raen just simply nodded. "My family keeps old records of sword techniques. I read about it when I was a kid. It is a technique which can even sit the flow of aura."

Veyra started at Raen for a while before she spoke, her tone was more formal than before.

"Yes, that technically was known as Void Severance. And the one who created that technique and mastered it was the greatest swordsman of all time—Aelric Dawnvale, the Sword God."

She looked around the class, watching the shocked faces of the students.

"Aelric reached the peak of swordsmanship before the age of fourth. He was untouchable. Even archmages or the aura masters were afraid of him. But he died in the battle against tier 10 monster...that's what people think."

Silence fell into the room.

Kael whispered. "Forty years old and unmatched? What kind of a monster he was? I can't even fathom his strength at all"

Riven spoke coldly. "Well, we can also reach that level if we work hard. So it would be better if we start from now only."

Luin leaned toward Emil. "Void Severance... that thing sounds like it only exists in a fantasy world. I don't think so that it is real."

Emil stated quiet and thought. 'Fuck it... I want this skill, damn it! I just do. If I get my hands on this skill, I definitely will be able to save this shit-ass world."

Emil took a break before he replied to Luin. "I don't know if it is real or not. But, even if it is, we can't do anything about it."

The bell rang, it broke the tension of the moment. Veyra left without saying anything—she simply turned and walked out of the classroom.

The New Professor Arrives

After a while, the door opened again—this time it was way gentler than the last time.

A man stepped inside of the classroom. He looked to be around his mid-twenties, with broad shoulder-length, silver hairs that were shining under the classroom light. He wore a long navy robe with glowing silver embroidery on it that resembled the constellation patterns.

His facial features were sharp but soft—calm eyes, smooth skin, and a natural air of nobility were present around him. Several students were impressed by him and kept staring at him like fools.

"Good morning you all." He said, his voice was smooth and filled with affection. "I am Professor Elyas Merinth, your instructor for Magical Theory and Application."

Kael blinked and said. "This guy is prettier than most of the girls present in our class."

Luin leaned towards Kael. "Do you think he makes his hair every single morning, or is it enchanted."

Emil smirked and said. "Both, probably. But, just leave it you know. Focus on the class."

Emil smirked. "Both, probably."

Professor Elyse continued speaking, now he pointed towards the floating crystal which was present at the front of the class. It projected glowing runes and elemental digits into the air.

"Today's lesson is simple," Elyse said. "We will study the Primary Elements of the Magic—the foundation of all spellcasting."

He raised his hands, flames started to flicker at his fingertips. "This is the Fire element."

Then a while later, water started to dance on his other palm. "This one is a Water element"

Wind started to swirl around his fingers, followed by a small wave of earth which started forming into dust. "These elements are Air and Warth"

He waved his hand, and all four sigils rotated into a majestic glowing ring.

"These are the four basic elemental affinities. Every mage has an affinity—some are rare, some are common, and some are unique. Some of the individuals also have two three or all four elements. The first step to being a proper mage is to understand and learn about your affinity, to control the magic properly."

The class leaned in, they all were way too much interested in this topic.
