Chapter 637: Chapter 636

Professor Qiu wasn’t shirking responsibility by saying this; the truth is simply that with any surgery, no matter how confident one might be, there’s always a chance of something unexpected happening!

So in situations like this, there’s no way to guarantee anything to the patient’s family. Even though Professor Qiu knows his mother so well, she couldn’t promise things for certain.

Wu Yuekai frowned deeply. Although he knew what she said was true, receiving such an answer still left him dissatisfied.

The surgery was necessary because, on the way there, Beisitian’s water broke. If it was just spotting, they could wait a little longer, but with the water breaking, there’s a risk of infection, which is dangerous for both the mother and child.

"Did Xiao Bei eat anything this evening?" Professor Qiu asked Luo Xudong.

"She did," Luo Xudong replied.

Professor Qiu thought for a moment, "If that’s the case, the earliest we can operate is at dawn, around 2 a.m. Before then, Xiao Bei must lie flat, and nothing below her neck should be raised. Keep this in mind; otherwise, there’s a risk of infection!"

Luo Xudong nodded quickly, indicating he would take care to watch over her closely.

Professor Qiu instructed further on various things, mentioning that there would be a dedicated doctor to check on Beisitian during this period.

"Will you be leading the surgery, Professor Qiu?" Wu Yuekai asked again.

Professor Qiu shook her head, "I’m not skilled in surgery, but I’ll find you an expert in this field to perform it!"

The surgery was scheduled for dawn, and because there was no advance booking, the costs would be relatively higher, especially since it’s to be done by a good doctor. Luo Xudong didn’t care about those details and agreed immediately.

After Professor Qiu left, Luo Xudong immediately went into the room to check on Beisitian. It was a private room meant for resting, and later would be used for delivery.

Seeing Beisitian lying on the bed, Luo Xudong’s expression softened. He brushed aside the stray hairs on her forehead and asked, "Does it hurt a lot?"

Beisitian shook her head, "No, it doesn’t hurt."

Luo Xudong gently leaned his forehead against hers, giving a light nudge, "I’ll be here with you the entire time."

Beisitian also nudged him back, whispering, "Don’t worry."

She could sense Luo Xudong’s emotions, and in contrast, she felt much more relaxed, perhaps because things had quieted down somewhat and she wasn’t as worn out. The contractions brought sharp pains but weren’t as intense as they initially were. They came intermittently, and since it was the beginning stage, the pain wasn’t overwhelming. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

Unfortunately, she couldn’t have a natural birth, yet had to endure such pain.

Despite the regret, what mattered most was the safe birth of the child, and as Beisitian was mentally prepared, she wasn’t too disappointed about having a cesarean section.

In preparation for the surgery at dawn, Beisitian couldn’t eat or drink. The contractions weren’t very frequent yet but disrupted her sleep, so she couldn’t rest either.

At this moment, there was some noise outside; Mrs. Qin and Luo Anguo had arrived, accompanied by Luo Xuping.

Luo Anguo wore a solemn expression. Mrs. Qin, however, wasn’t too nervous; she had been preparing early, so when she got the news, she swiftly gathered the essentials. At this point, she was carrying a washbasin and hygiene products for postpartum use, including sanitary pads, baby clothes, and diapers.

These items had been packed and sorted long in advance, so she could just grab and go without any hassle.

Seeing this, Luo Xudong smiled and stood up to take over the items, but Mrs. Qin wouldn’t let him.

"I can handle it myself. I know where everything goes, so it’ll be easy to find later. You just keep an eye on Little Tian’er!" Mrs. Qin said.

A nurse nearby reminded that this was only the delivery room. Knowing these people were extraordinary, she smilingly took Mrs. Qin to the private room prepared for Beisitian.

Mrs. Qin hurriedly followed.

Luo Anguo stood aside, not daring to get too close, just looking at Beisitian from a distance, "Little Tian’er, don’t be afraid of the pain. I heard with anesthesia, it doesn’t hurt at all!"

Beisitian smiled, "Dad, I’m not afraid of pain."

Luo Anguo naturally didn’t believe it, considering that there really wasn’t anyone who wasn’t afraid of pain; even he was.

Luo Xuping lay beside Beisitian’s bed, grabbing her other hand, eyes wide open, asking, "Sis, are the little babies coming out soon?"

Beisitian held onto Luo Xuping’s small hand, answering yes, her brows slightly furrowed as the contractions began again.

Luo Xuping saw the pain reflected on Beisitian’s face, and after a moment of shock, started to panic, "Sis, what’s wrong with you?"

Luo Anguo took two steps forward, pulling Luo Xuping away, whispering in his ear, "Giving birth is painful, don’t disturb your sister, come with me."

Luo Xuping looked puzzled. Why did having babies hurt? Holding onto Luo Anguo’s hand as they walked away, he glanced back at Beisitian. Her face was turning red, with sweat beading on her forehead, her brow furrowed, and eyes shut tightly. It seemed genuinely painful, worse than when he had twisted his ankle!

At that moment, Luo Xuping felt, for the first time, less eager for his little niece and nephew to arrive; he didn’t want to see his sister in so much pain!

During Beisitian’s contractions, Luo Xudong held her hand tightly. Only when the wave of pain subsided and Beisitian’s body relaxed did he let go.

Beisitian opened her eyes, noticing the sweat on Luo Xudong’s forehead, which made her chuckle slightly; he was just nervous.

"You can even laugh!" Luo Xudong placed her hand next to his face.

Beisitian looked at the ceiling, with a subtle worry in her heart. The contractions were coming on a bit faster than before. If this continued, she might be fully dilated before the scheduled surgery.

Natural delivery was out of the question, as the baby’s feet faced downwards. Attempting a natural birth could only lead to complications.

Since it was only Beisitian’s conjecture, she didn’t rush to inform the doctor about her thoughts.

Even though there were contractions, Beisitian dozed off for a moment during a relaxed period. She was indeed quite tired.

Two hours later, Beisitian’s contractions became much more frequent. She slept fitfully, waking up during contractions due to the discomfort, but with poor mental clarity. After enduring the contraction, she’d immediately fall back asleep, making it exhausting even while sleeping.

Beisitian dozed off for a bit before falling asleep again. She didn’t know how much time had passed, but when she woke, Luo Xudong lay asleep at her bedside.

He needed some rest to be alert by dawn.

In the past, Beisitian wouldn’t bother him, but now, she nudged Luo Xudong awake, saying, "Xudong, could you please call the doctor for me."

Luo Xudong quickly became alert. He frowned, glanced at Beisitian, and went to call the doctor.

In no time, Luo Xudong returned with the doctor.

"I’m having intense and more frequent contractions, could you check how much I’ve dilated..." Beisitian said, and then another wave of pain hit, more intense than before, making her involuntarily arch her body.
