Chapter 432: Chapter 432 Happy Shadows (1)

Alina stared at him for a moment, surprised, and then a quiet laugh escaped her as she shook her head. "You really are unbelievable," she said, her voice warm with affection, the light scolding not reaching her eyes. "I’ve never had a guest complain so much."

"Most guests aren’t tossed out of bed by two little tyrant," he replied evenly, taking a small step toward her until the space between them felt smaller, warmer. "I spent the whole day keeping them safe and happy. I think I’ve earned a reward."

She folded her arms, pretending to consider it, though her eyes kept drifting back to his face, tracing the sharp lines and calm expression. "And what exactly does a demon lord consider a fair reward?" she asked, her tone playful.

His gaze dropped to her mouth for just a second before meeting her eyes again, his own dark and intent. "That," he said softly, "depends on what you’re willing to give."

Alina bit her lip, hesitating. The words felt delicate, like something she was still getting used to saying out loud. "I suppose," she began, voice soft but steadying as she went, "since being with you makes me happy... I can share my bed with you." She paused, her cheeks flushing. "For sleeping," she added quickly, as if the clarification mattered far more to her than to him.

His expression shifted instantly. A spark lit in his eyes, something bright and a little dangerous that made her heart trip over itself. "Thank you, little human," he said, the corner of his mouth tilting into a satisfied smirk. "Your hospitality is exceptional."

Her brows drew together at once. "Who are you calling ’little human’?" she shot back, folding her arms tighter, a flicker of annoyance in her tone even as her eyes danced. She turned and started toward her room without waiting, her steps a little too hurried to be casual.

He followed without effort, his long strides easily keeping pace until he moved smoothly in front of her, blocking her path. She nearly walked right into his chest. He looked down at her with that infuriating calm, then lifted a hand and gently rested it on top of her head. Slowly, he moved the same hand to the top of his own head, demonstrating the clear difference in their height.

"Well," he said, his tone almost teasing, "no need to be upset. You are little. Compared to me, anyway."

Alina stared for a second, then rolled her eyes so hard it seemed they might stay that way. "Who told you to grow like a coconut tree?" she grumbled, though her lips twitched despite herself. "That’s hardly my fault."

His laugh was low, a warm rumble in his chest. "Jealous?" he asked, leaning down just enough that she had to tilt her head back to hold his gaze.

"In your dreams," she replied quickly, though her smile gave her away. She sidestepped him, moving toward the bed and fussing with the edge of the blanket, just to give her hands something to do. Her heart was still beating fast, but it wasn’t from nerves. It was a comfortable, thrilling feeling—something new and sweet.

He watched her for a moment, the teasing fading from his expression, leaving something quieter in its place. When he spoke again, his voice was lower, more serious. "Don’t worry," he said. "I won’t take up much room."

She glanced over her shoulder at him, her eyes soft. "You’d better not," she said lightly. "Or I’ll make you leave."

A slow smile touched his lips. "You can try."

She had only taken two steps toward him when the floor seemed to disappear from under her.

Alina gasped as shadows, cool and gentle, rose up around her and lifted her effortlessly into the air. Her hands flew out to her sides, eyes wide, breath caught somewhere between shock and disbelief. She looked at Dante, her heart hammering against her ribs, but he only shrugged, completely unapologetic, a lazy smirk playing on his mouth.

"Wasn’t me," he said calmly, watching with clear amusement. "They’re acting on their own."

The shadows curled around her with a surprising tenderness, holding her steady and secure midair. For a heartbeat, fear fluttered in her chest—the sensation of floating, of having nothing solid beneath her, made her stomach twist. But then she felt it—the certainty in their hold, the way they adjusted when she shifted, as though reassuring her without a word. Slowly, the fear melted into wonder. Her eyes widened, amazement washing over her face as she realized they would never let her fall.

One shadow brushed against her wrist, not cold or threatening, but warm in its own strange way, like something alive learning her shape. She inhaled sharply, her pulse quickening, but a breathless smile curved her lips.

"They say you can even stand," Dante added, his voice lower now, watching her closely.

"H-here?" Alina asked, hesitant, her toes dangling above nothing.

He gave a single nod.

Gathering her courage, she slowly shifted her weight. The shadows responded at once, firming beneath her feet, shaping themselves into an invisible platform. Her breath caught as she placed one foot down, then the other, standing on empty air. The moment she straightened, a rush of exhilaration shot through her, her heart beating wildly as she took one careful step forward.

"Oh my—" she whispered, the rest of the sentence lost. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

She was walking.

Not on the floor, not on anything solid, but on air woven together by shadows that moved with her like a living path. Every step sent a thrill through her body, adrenaline humming under her skin, laughter bubbling up before she could stop it. It felt unreal, like a beautiful dream she never wanted to end.

"This is..." She looked at Dante, her eyes shining. "This is the most amazing thing I’ve ever felt."

"Why are they doing this all of a sudden?" she asked, still moving carefully, her gaze flicking down and then back up, half-afraid the magic would vanish if she questioned it too much.
