Chapter 298: Chapter 298 Hint

Her voice softened further, full of admiration. "That’s not weakness. That’s strength."

Dante blinked at her, momentarily speechless. He wasn’t used to being seen this way—without judgment, without fear. Slowly, the tension in his shoulders eased, and a faint smile appeared on his lips.

"Though," he said lightly, his tone warming, "I am happy that Lucien was there. He became a little light in my life. He’s a serious little baby, yes—but so curious and determined. Sometimes when I look at him, I see my brother again. The same calm eyes. The same way of observing the world before speaking."

He smiled faintly to himself, his expression gentler now.

"So," Dante said suddenly, breaking the silence between them, his voice smooth yet casual, "back to the topic we were discussing earlier..."

Alina blinked, confused. "Topic?"

He leaned slightly toward her, his eyes gleaming under the sunlight. "What do you want in a boyfriend?"

Alina froze, her mind going blank for a full second. Then, slowly, realization hit her and her heart began to pound so loudly she was sure he could hear it.

Wait... is he asking this as a hint? she thought, her cheeks instantly warming. He had just opened up about his past, shared things he probably never told anyone, and now—he was asking this?

When she dared to look at him, she found him watching her closely, his expression calm but his eyes sharp with quiet focus, as if every word she said mattered. The way the sunlight hit his face only made it worse—his features almost unreal in their perfection.

She could barely breathe. There’s no way such a perfect, gorgeous man could actually be interested in me.

But then her old insecurities whispered cruelly in the back of her mind. You’re thinking too much. He didn’t mean it like that. Why would someone like him look at you that way?

Alina took a slow breath, pushing those thoughts aside. Focus on the present, not your fears.

"Well..." she said softly, trying to sound composed though her heart felt anything but calm. "I’d want a mature, understanding, and loyal boyfriend." Her tone grew gentle, thoughtful. "Someone who listens, who respects me... someone I can rely on."

It was simple, but honest.

Dante nodded slowly, his gaze still steady on her face. "And what about kindness?" he asked quietly, knowing how she valued kindness.

"Of course," she said with a smile. "Kindness is everything."

For a heartbeat, neither of them spoke. Then, with that same quiet tone, Dante replied, "As for me..." He paused just long enough to make her heartbeat stumble. "Kind. Gentle. Good with children... pretty," his eyes softened as they rested on her, "and understanding."

Alina’s lips parted slightly. She didn’t even try to hide the surprise that flashed across her face.

She could feel it—the deliberate choice of words, the way his gaze didn’t waver as he spoke. Every quality he listed sounded exactly like her.

Her throat felt dry, and her cheeks burned hotter by the second. She looked away quickly, pretending to fix her sleeve.

Dante, meanwhile, noticed every flicker of emotion—the way her shoulders tensed, the faint tremor in her lashes, the deep flush painting her skin. And it pleased him more than he’d admit.

His lips curved into a small, knowing smile. Good, he thought. At least she’s starting to realize it.

"Cough, cough."

The sound cut through the soft quiet between them like a tiny thunderclap. Both Dante and Alina turned at once, startled out of the delicate silence they had unknowingly fallen into.

Standing a few steps away, with her hands on her hips and a mischievous smirk tugging at her lips, was Georgia. "Well, well," she said dramatically. "Glad to see you two remembered this is still planet Earth."

Alina’s face went red in an instant. "G-Georgia! You scared me!"

Dante straightened, clearing his throat, though a faint shadow of irritation flickered behind his calm expression.

Georgia grinned as she walked toward them. "Relax, sweetheart. I’m just saving you both from burning holes into each other’s faces." Then her tone shifted to cheerful business. "Anyway, Alina, I’m done checking your mom. Everything’s stable for now."

Alina smiled in relief. "Thank you, Georgia. Really."

Georgia nodded but then placed a hand on her stomach dramatically. "And now, my dear teacher of little babies, I’m starving. How about lunch? Preferably something that won’t involve any kind of creature, because, for the record, I’m vegetarian."

Her eyes flicked pointedly toward Dante, who raised an eyebrow.

"I never said anything," he said coolly.

"Mm-hm," Georgia replied, clearly unconvinced.

Alina giggled softly, the tension melting from her face. "Alright, Georgia. I know a place nearby—it’s pretty popular and all vegetarian. We can go there."

"Perfect!" Georgia said, linking her arm with Alina’s as if they were already best friends. "Let’s go before your demon principal starts turning the flowers into charcoal out of jeal— I mean, hunger."

"Georgia," Dante said warningly, his voice low but calm.

She only winked at him over her shoulder. "Yes, yes, my Lord. I’m coming."

They walked toward the parking lot together, sunlight glimmering across the pavement. Alina climbed into the driver’s seat of her car, still smiling faintly, while Georgia settled comfortably beside her in the passenger seat. Dante slid into the back, silent as ever, but his eyes remained on Alina.

The car engine came to life, and they pulled out of the hospital grounds.

Alina drove smoothly, her hair catching the sunlight as it streamed through the window. "It’s a small restaurant," she said over her shoulder. "But it has really good reviews."

"I trust your judgment," Georgia said happily, already scrolling through her phone’s food photos.

They soon reached the restaurant, a small but charming place tucked between a row of shops. The warm scent of spices and baked bread drifted through the air even before they stepped inside. Bells above the glass door chimed softly as Alina pushed it open, holding it for the other two.

The interior was cozy—wooden tables polished to a warm shine, soft instrumental music playing in the background, and the faint hum of conversation from a few customers enjoying their meals. Sunlight streamed through the wide windows, spilling across the green potted plants and bright murals painted on the walls.

Alina smiled as she led them in. "This is one of my favorite spots," she said. "It’s peaceful, and their vegetarian food is really good."

Georgia’s eyes sparkled as she inhaled deeply. "Oh, yes. I can feel the good energy already," she said, clapping her hands together in delight. "Spices, nature, warmth—exactly my kind of place!"

Dante followed behind them, his tall figure standing out easily among the small tables. His presence drew a few curious glances from nearby diners, but he didn’t seem to notice or care. His attention was on Alina, watching how her face brightened the moment she talked about food, how easily she smiled here.
