I Am Your Natural Enemy-Chapter 613 - 240 Walking Your Own Path, The Correct Way to Use Offerings (5k)
Wen Yan didn’t bother with anything else. He borrowed the Nether Path and walked out from Old Zhao’s basement.
After Tong Si came out and saw Old Zhao’s house, then looked around, he realized Wen Yan was living in exactly the same kind of house. The envy in his eyes was practically overflowing.
Old Zhao and those five brothers, in his opinion, were really average in terms of power.
Even ghosts like that qualified to be Wen Yan’s neighbors and lived in the same kind of house.
Judging by the way they greeted each other, they really seemed like regular neighbors.
Tong Si felt that all his previous hesitation was already more than fair to that burned-to-death ghost.
No matter what anyone said now, he was set on this—he was determined to reincarnate, find a job with public benefits, and get himself his own home.
It didn’t have to be this nice, as long as he had one, that would be enough. His biggest longing was just for a home where you could turn on a tap and water would come out.
From his still-fresh memories of being alive, one of the clearest things was how hard it was to get water back then—the river was too far away, and carrying water was truly exhausting.
Later, someone paid to dig a well, but even after digging really deep, they never hit water. In the end, when they finally found a spot with water, they were told the water wasn’t safe to drink.
Then they dug water cellars to collect rain and snow, but it was nowhere near enough, and the taste of the water was bad too—though no one cared about taste back then, as long as they had water to drink, it was already great.
All the things he’d once longed for, after falling into the Land of Four Wilds, all those heart’s desires, even as a ghost now, it seemed just quietly finding a job would give him a real shot at getting them.
So now Tong Si truly didn’t want to make trouble, or get into trouble anymore.
He also hoped the ghosts he once knew wouldn’t do anything bad either.
Other than the naturally trouble-prone burned-to-death ghost, he’d actually struggled a lot over selling out the other ghosts.
Now he wasn’t struggling anymore—this didn’t really count as betrayal.
Because he pretty much knew what the other ghosts cared about, what they wanted.
All those things they cared about and wanted, honestly, as long as they didn’t cause trouble, were all possible to achieve—and achieve openly, too.
No more worrying about day-to-day survival—he was helping them.
Just walking out of Old Zhao’s, Tong Si’s heart was already rolling with stormy waves, and he was even more determined inside.
No one could stop his yearning for a better life.
Especially now that this hope was something visible and within reach—if anyone got in his way, he’d fight them to the end.
Tong Si maintained his respect, always staying one step behind Wen Yan.
When talking to Feng Wei, he was much more genuine, even wondering inside if he should apologize and tell him, "It was me who bewitched you earlier."
In the end, before he could get the words out, Wen Yan invited Feng Wei to stay for a meal, then glanced at Feng Wei pulling Tong Si along and added that Tong Si should eat with them too.
Tong Si felt a bit uneasy but didn’t dare refuse.
But before they could enter Wen Yan’s house, Tong Si’s body stiffened, and he lost control of himself.
He saw on the roof of a side house, someone covered in blood with such heavy killing aura that he couldn’t even see their face, walking horizontally down the wall. Just one extra look made his eyes ache terribly.
Wen Yan greeted the person, asking if they wanted to eat together. The person declined.
Then a few steps away, another fellow with restrained aura floated over astride a bamboo broom. Wen Yan invited this one too, but he said he had a friend moving in and was going to their place for dinner.
Tong Si just gave a glance and nearly suffered spiritual backlash from it.
When they finally reached Wen Yan’s door, seeing the energy here—especially the divine essence rising from below—Tong Si grimaced, fished out a piece of black cloth, and covered his eyes with it.
He was terrified if he looked even a couple seconds longer, he’d be backlashed to death on the spot.
Being able to see what others couldn’t really wasn’t necessarily a good thing.
Wen Yan looked at Tong Si’s motions and just smiled without saying anything.
Feng Wei still thought of Tong Si as his friend, and Wen Yan brought Tong Si along really just to ask for Tong Si’s help.
If someday it all became real, Wen Yan wouldn’t bother to poke holes in things.
Wen Yan set up a big table at home; Old Zhao and the five brothers were brought over, and the meal was lively as always.
There was meat, noodles, rice, tomatoes, spicy food—anything you could wish for.
Even the clingy Gray Cloth tagging along got to share in the Yang energy.
After the meal, the five brothers with stuffed bellies gathered around Old Zhao and went home together.
Feng Wei was about to leave too. He asked if Tong Si wanted to stay with him for now, at Lord Zhu’s place.
Tong Si looked at Wen Yan, who nodded.
"You can show your face openly at Lord Zhu’s. If you’ve got other ’friends’, they can stay for now, too. Treat this like a temporary job—for now, I’ll get someone to calculate your pay, start the process, and if you pass the checks, you’ll have your own bank card."
Tong Si understood the first half but didn’t really get the second, though he did know what he was supposed to do now.
After following Feng Wei away and reaching the little path, Tong Si took off the black cloth from his eyes, and tears nearly fell. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
He’d just eaten something full of gentle Yang energy!
Looking at the friendliness in Feng Wei’s face, Tong Si steeled his resolve.
"Feng Wei, I gotta be straight with you about something..."
...
In the room, Wen Yan called Lord Zhu and said that, since he was having issues with the Scorching Sun Department lately, it wasn’t convenient to contact them directly.
He also said he couldn’t arrange matters for Tong Si here for the moment, so he’d leave him at Lord Zhu’s for now, give Tong Si a job searching for people, and the rest could be handled later.
