Chapter 558: Chapter 222: Installing Street Lights, Turning Faces as Quickly as Flipping Through a Book (5k)_2

"These Ghosts spread rumors faster than wildfire!" Wen Yan’s expression darkened.

Indeed, the way these Ghosts relayed things was utterly absurd. They didn’t need to buy houses or cars, get married, or have children. Many didn’t even have to work, so they truly had nothing better to do than count the hairs on their legs.

Only two days had passed, and the story about the street lamps in the Nether Path had already spread like wildfire.

No wonder Feng Wei hardly believed that Wen Yan had only gone to the entrance of the Nether Path to set up a street lamp, surely just out of boredom and goodwill.

Feng Wei’s comment made even Wen Yan himself feel that his current behavior, in the eyes of the Ghosts, must seem somewhat deranged.

Carrying a street lamp pole, he entered the Nether Path from the Desolate Tomb entrance, put the pole down at the Big Intersection, and then turned around to walk back.

"Hey, don’t walk back," Feng Wei shouted. Wen Yan, however, pulled him along.

With a turn, everything around him seemed to dissolve, and he stood on a barren wilderness with no sense of direction.

He closed his eyes and continued forward. Eyes still closed, he exited the Desolate Tomb. He had Feng Wei wait inside the Desolate Tomb while he went back to carry more street lamp components.

Watching Wen Yan’s actions, Feng Wei scratched his head. Wen Yan had grown stronger, entering the Nether Path as casually as if it were his own home, walking however he wanted. But wasn’t it true that one could only reach their destination in the Nether Path by moving forward?

"You stay here and help keep this passage open. Just wait for me; I’ll be done quickly," Wen Yan said.

After several trips back and forth, Wen Yan had carried down the lamp poles, bases, wires, and even a toolbox.

He seemed to have found a new toy, busying himself down there all day: setting the bases, burying the cables, erecting the lamp poles, tightening the nuts, and finally carrying the cables out from Old Zhao’s Basement.

He connected the electricity directly to Old Zhao’s Family’s electrical panel.

The 220-volt street lamps each used only about eighty to a hundred watts. Ten of them would only amount to a kilowatt, so they wouldn’t consume much electricity.

Back at the Big Intersection, ten street lamps stood on either side of the road. Their bright light seemed to suppress even the ghastly green candlelight.

The place suddenly became very bright, and the Ghosts passing by seemed to slow down, as if they wanted to bathe longer in the light.

Wen Yan thought for a moment and reached out to touch a street lamp.

With his current thoughts and intentions, he performed a Blessing on the street lamps.

Yang Energy flowed up the poles, blessing them. The bright light of the street lamps suddenly dimmed slightly, but the glow now contained a faint warmth.

Wen Yan blessed all ten street lamps with Yang Energy. Standing at the Big Intersection, he watched as the unthinking Ghosts continually passed by. Each one seemed to close their eyes, as if to feel the Sun.

He had an inexplicable sense of achievement; personally setting up ten street lamps gave him a greater sense of accomplishment than previous fights. He was definitely the first person, past or present, to install street lamps in the Nether Path.

Wen Yan stood under the street lamps, hands on his hips, grinning and laughing heartily.

"Feng Wei, what do you think?"

Feng Wei felt the light here, watching the Ghosts who seemed to be sunbathing without being harmed, and an inexplicable emotion stirred within him. In truth, it had been a very long time since he’d last felt what it was like for the Sun to shine on his body—so comfortable, so warm.

Seeing Wen Yan’s ecstatic demeanor, Feng Wei suddenly understood. At least, to feel happy and gain a sense of achievement, perhaps one really only needed to do things that didn’t seem very difficult. Although installing street lamps in the Nether Path was not easy at all. It was just that for Wen Yan, the difficulty wasn’t high.

Feng Wei finally understood why Lord Zhu enjoyed interacting with Wen Yan; Lord Zhu would do things but neither tell Wen Yan nor seek any credit. He now truly believed that Wen Yan had no ulterior motive in doing this; he purely wanted to do it. In the future, when Wen Yan talked about it, he’d probably just mention it as something rather fun and cool he did.

Basking in the light, Feng Wei silently pondered. For the Ghosts here, the significance of this event was likely completely different. One couldn’t understand this feeling unless they were a Ghost. It was like how people would feel depressed and down if they didn’t see the Sun for a long time; Ghosts were actually the same. It was just that Ghosts ’sunbathed’ in the moonlight. They say moonlight is actually reflected sunlight, so that was roughly equivalent to sunbathing.

Seeing Wen Yan laughing so happily, Feng Wei also started to smile. This is good, he thought. I guess I contributed to this too.

At first, he hadn’t understood. Now, he felt that being involved in this was something to be proud of.

Having completed these tasks, Wen Yan squatted by the roadside for a while, watching, then headed back to Old Zhao’s Basement with Feng Wei.

Feng Wei said he had to leave; it was daylight, and it was time for him to rest, promising to visit another time.

Wen Yan headed home, while Feng Wei left from the Big Intersection.

He stood at the Big Intersection, quietly feeling the light from the street lamps. After a long while, feeling he had ’sunbathed’ enough, he left with satisfaction.

Under the halo of light, the eerie green glow was suppressed, and the flames on the terrifying wood carvings trembled slightly.

Elsewhere, Wen Yan, finding himself with nothing to do, continued practicing his boxing. When he finished, with nothing else pressing, he took out the Black Mountain Stone Sculpture, placed it before him, and continued his spiritual practices to further the transcendence of Black Mountain.

After that, he called the Director, saying he could return to work.

On the phone, the Director launched into a tirade against Cai Heizi for over ten minutes. He said Cai Heizi wasn’t human, working their Funeral Home employees like mules. He, the Director, still cared about his own staff.
