Chapter 431: Chapter 180: I Can Send Dreams, Everyone is Thinking of Solutions (5k)_2

"Time’s up. Hurry back now. Don’t always wait until you’ve drained all your yang energy to leave. Your body is too weak, it’s not good for you."

"Oh..." Chen Qimo nodded reluctantly, getting ready to log out.

Wen Yan reached out a hand and placed it on the girl’s head. Her little head was covered by his hand in an instant. Chen Qimo shrank her neck, then felt a wave of warmth flow from Wen Yan’s large hand, instantly spreading through her body.

"Go on back..."

Chen Qimo muttered her logout command, and a layer of ethereal clothing seemed to drape over her, carrying her away as a beam of faint light, vanishing without a trace.

After Chen Qimo disappeared, Lin Jue poked his head in at the doorway, shamelessly coming over.

"Bro, hey bro, can I have some too?"

Wen Yan rolled his eyes, and casually blessed Lin Jue with a bit of yang energy as well.

"You’re at least Brother Fu, can’t you act with a little dignity?"

"All I have left is money now, and I can’t even spend it. What’s the use? Resources matter most. You’re the bro, I’m the little brother."

...

In the villa district, Pei Tugou sat on the roof of Gauss’s home, drinking with Gauss.

The two of them looked at the various hanging trinkets under the street lamp not far away. Pei Tugou took a swig of liquor, a bit disheartened.

"Wen Yan’s been missing for a bunch of days now. Even my daughter has started asking if her Uncle Wen is just on a business trip."

"Didn’t Wen go to the Netherworld?"

"Yeah. The problem is he can’t come back right now. All I can do is guard the house and add a few ornaments to these streetlights. I can’t do anything else. Life at home just keeps getting better, but Wen Yan still can’t come back. Got any ideas?"

"Isn’t there the Scorching Sun Department?"

"The guys at Scorching Sun Department aren’t much better than I am. They can only send a single weapon down there, can’t bring anything back."

"I’ve read quite a few books lately. The Netherworld in Divine Land is a pain, not like the hell over in Europa. If he’d fallen into hell, I could at least help ask around—even if my connection to hell isn’t great, business is still business. Or, if he were a devil, I could try summoning him over."

Gauss was feeling a bit regretful. He just got paid this month.

His coworkers always said when you get your first paycheck, you take your family out for a meal, or buy them some gifts.

He didn’t have any family here, so the only one who came to mind was Wen Yan, who’s helped him out so much. He’d planned to treat Wen Yan to a nice meal, but Wen Yan fell into the Netherworld and won’t be back for a while.

As Gauss was pondering this, he noticed Pei Tugou was staring at him, eyes shining.

"What’s up?"

"If he can’t come back, you can go."

"Me going wouldn’t help—most of my power’s been sealed away, so really, I’m just a somewhat decent devil right now."

"What I mean is, if others can summon you here, your summoning circle can cross worlds, right? So can’t you do a reverse summon? When he summons you, you pull him back?" 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

"Pei, I gotta say, that is a wildly creative idea, but it’s impossible. You have to understand, the hardest part of summoning is crossing the barrier between worlds and getting the precise coordinates. Other than those two, the crossing itself doesn’t actually take much power. But right now, neither of those things can be done."

"But if you go there once, wouldn’t you have them?"

"No, no, no. Even if I made it over once, I might not get the exact coordinates. It’s like... like you’re out at sea, with no proper method and no clear reference, there’s no way to know your location, get it?"

Pei Tugou looked discouraged.

"Guess all those TV shows are full of crap. Not a single real thing in them. Whenever I see those demon kings, it always seems crossing worlds is a breeze for them."

A few rounds of drinks later, the two of them were even more downcast.

Back in his room, Gauss started searching for shows and movies related to demon kings, devils, and demons.

He was never one to think everything is make-believe. Ever since he really picked up something legit from a movie and after watching plenty of conspiracy theory stuff, he figured that’s just how people in this world hide their real powers—truth and lies mixed up, nobody can tell what’s real.

Who knows, maybe there’s actually a method he can use to get to the Netherworld and bring Wen Yan back.

Lately, he’d picked up a few tricks himself, which he really wanted to share with Wen Yan. He found out that spending money actually feels great. Other people call this sharing, so he figured hey, sharing feels pretty great too.

Gauss started digging through every show and movie he could, looking for clues.

Meanwhile, back in the Scorching Sun Department’s research division, they started tackling Wen Yan’s current predicament from another angle.

Since last time even the heavy crossbow could be delivered down there, then based on a fixed set of burial offerings, maybe they could sneak in a few extra things as well.

Like, say, a locator device.

Actually, that’s not so hard. The hard part isn’t that there aren’t ready-mades, or that it’s tricky to build.

The real issue is making it small enough, so it can go down, and it’s got to be usable.

So, they came up with a locator the size of a fingernail, with a built-in button cell battery.

Granted, the thing can’t connect to a satellite, its power is super low, and the range is tiny—in the real world it’s absolutely useless. But it’s small, and the standby time is long.

As an ornamental trinket hidden among the burial offerings, it should make its way through.

One by itself doesn’t really do much—the signal range in a city heavy with interference is maybe a hundred meters at best. Considering the Netherworld is flat and wide but hugely interfered too, to be safe, say fifty meters tops.
