I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 253: Sorry?
Chapter 253: Sorry?
"You know you don’t have to continue to console me. I am fine."
"I just wanted some ice cream, Ravi," Asher said with a smile as he held the cone of ice cream in his hand. Seeing Ravi’s suspicious expression, he blinked innocently, "Don’t all children want ice cream any chance they get? Why are you looking at....Arlen! Arlen! Over here!" Asher raised his free hand and waved as high as he could, jumping so the tall man clad in a black rather than dark blue police uniform could see them.’
Arlen turned from the group of men and women that he was walking into the hospital with and said something to them. They spoke for some minutes, the one in front, the Special Agent nodded and Arlen left them, coming over to where the two of them were standing with their ice cream.
Oh heaven! He was so handsome. Ravi’s lips curled into a smile but then he looked at those smiling blue eyes and there was not a hint of a smile in them.
Ravi’s lips instantly strengthened and his heart felt like an iron ore had dropped inside. Other officers might be at a loss at what happened, they might not pay any attention to how an officer had disappeared from their bus but how could Arlen not notice?
He slept for two days straight, how could he not place each issue side by side? He must be so upset with him for keeping everything a secret.
The heaviness in his chest seemed so heavy and he fought back his desire to bolt. He forced himself to look up and meet Arlen’s gaze.
The sight squeezed his heart tight. Those gorgeous blue eyes carried sadness.
Asher had no idea what was going through Ravi’s head, he must have known that the two of them were staring at each other for the longest time. He was grown up enough to know to give them time to look at each other some more.
"I will look around more and then call Sage to pick me up. Take your time." Asher generously said and with a smile on his lips and ice cream cone in hand, he turned and left.
The silence seemed even more pronounced with the absence of Asher. Icy tendrils blasted him at once, wisps curling around him like chains. It was afternoon, the sun was the highest it had ever been, and yet Ravi felt like he was very cold.
"I am sorry." Ravi’s voice was hoarse as he murmured. Then he blinked, and looked up. Just now, he had heard those words, just not in his voice.
The two of them looked at each other.
"What on earth are you sorry for?" Arlen asked, confused.
Ravi was also confused, "Why are you angry? Are you not upset that I lied to you?"
"When did you lie to me?"
Ravi looked left and right, "About my ability? What I can do? I am sure you know now."
Arlen was shocked for a moment and then chuckled, he moved closer to pull Ravi in a half sort of hug, "What are you talking about?" Arlen’s voice was soft, "Didn’t we agree that I would wait."
"Eh?
"Maybe one day, when we are older, we would get a few cans of beer and we would talk about it."
"Wine," Ravi recalled that day, clear as glass and his lips curled. Arlen had told him not to be in a hurry to tell him whatever he wanted to do. Arlen had told him that he would wait and that he should not feel pressured.
This case had unnerved him and he had forgotten about the pinky promise that he had made with Arlen.
Warm hands cascaded his hair and Ravi sank closer into the hug. Suddenly, at this moment, Ravi felt an overwhelming sense of peace.
This feeling, so relaxing and pure, washed over him and he felt like his entire heart had silently turned into a pool of water.
"I am glad you are not upset with me." Ravi said, "When I tell you everything. Don’t be upset."
Arlen smiled, "I might throw a tantrum. For five seconds."
Ravi chuckled, he knew just how easy to get addicted to Arlen, how easy it was to sink deeper and deeper into this person’s care.
And because he knew just how much this person loved him, Ravi pouted, "Just now, you did not smile when you saw me."
Ravi did not normally act this way with him and it made him laugh, "I was feeling guilty. You looked so tired even though you just slept for two days. I felt like it was my fault. If I had been stronger..."
Ravi looked at Arlen, "Sorry to burst your bubble but even if you train for the next hundred years. I will still be stronger than you."
"Oh! Oh! Challenge accepted."
Ravi buried his head back into Arlen’s sleeve, breathing in its smell. He was like a child who was reluctant to let go of the candy jar in his hand.
Arlen attentively watched every little movement of Ravi, seeing the cold unresponsive body of Ravi on that bed, it had been so difficult to breathe. Only as color returned to his cheeks that Arlen had gone down to make dinner for Asher.
He touched his hair, his gaze not leaving the other for even a moment. The longer he watched him, the more he felt the bliss of the happiness welling up in his heart.
"Stop staring at me like that." There was a hint of a smile in his voice. He lifted his head to look at Arlen and he could see his reflection in Arlen’s eyes. Eyes so clear, so beautiful.
Arlen brushed his fingers from Ravi’s temples to the back of his head, before he caressed his earlobe gently. His hands kept moving down, his thumb slowly moving to touch Ravi’s lips.
"Ravi."
"En."
"I have missed you."
Ravi smiled, his tongue playfully reaching out to touch the thumb before hurriedly retreating.
"I love you, Arlen."
