Chapter 734: Chapter 731: Shameless CEO (1)

Dragon City Complex.

Unit Three, 502.

Vera Wave paced back and forth in the room. She walked to the coffee table, picked up her phone, and checked the screen. There were no missed calls or messages, but she confirmed her phone wasn’t on silent mode.

Kate Palmer still hadn’t replied. Had Vera upset her so much that Kate was now giving her the silent treatment out of spite?!

Clutching her phone, Vera opened her contacts, unable to resist calling Kate.

KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!

Someone was at the door.

"Coming!"

Gripping her phone, Vera walked to the door and pulled it open.

The call connected. As soon as she heard Kate Palmer’s voice on the other end, Vera blurted out, "Kate, it’s Vera. Kris Cooper, he..."

Her words trailed off as she froze.

Standing outside the open door was a tall figure—who else could it be but Kris Cooper?!

Vera froze, her hand gripping the security door.

The man, however, unceremoniously brushed past her and snatched the phone. "Everything’s fine," he said into it before hanging up.

"You..." Vera finally recovered from her shock. "You... why are you here?"

Kris Cooper closed the door, his gaze deep as he looked at her.

"Why do you think?"

"I..." Vera bit her lower lip. "You... you must be here because of that incident. I... I don’t have a good explanation."

He must be here to confront her about the scandal. If he wanted to misunderstand, then let him. It was better to get it over with quickly than to prolong the agony. Let him be completely disappointed in her.

"So..." Kris Cooper narrowed his eyes. "Were you really at Nathan Leafcastle’s place last night?"

Vera lowered her gaze, not daring to look at him.

"Yes."

Kris Cooper took a deep breath.

She kept her head down, bracing for the storm she expected him to unleash.

After what felt like a long moment, his voice finally broke the silence from above her.

"Next time, you’re not allowed to stay overnight at another man’s house."

There was mild anger in his voice, but it was completely different from what she had imagined. His tone could even be described as gentle.

Vera looked up, astonished, staring at Kris Cooper in disbelief.

He... he wasn’t furious?!

Kris Cooper glanced at her, then walked past her into the living room.

Vera blinked, surprised, and hurried after him.

He glanced around, walked to the kitchen door, peeked inside, then retreated and glanced at the restroom door.

Finally, he walked over and pushed open the bedroom door.

The apartment was small, and the bedroom was no exception. Inside was a double bed, her still-unpacked luggage beside it.

What on earth is he doing?

Confused, Vera walked over, observing Kris Cooper’s movements.

The man standing at the bedroom doorway suddenly turned. Startled, she jumped and took a hasty step back.

Kris Cooper stood his ground. "Do you have a bath towel?"

Vera was speechless. "What?"

"A bath towel!" he repeated.

"Yes," she answered instinctively, then looked at him, puzzled. "Why?"

"Bring it in for me."

With that, he strode directly into the restroom.

She hurried after him. When she entered the restroom, she found him already unbuttoning his shirt.

"What... what exactly are you doing?!"

He took off his shirt, hung it on the rack, and then started to unbuckle his belt.

"Taking a bath!"

A bath?! He’d gone to all this trouble to find her, just to take a bath in her restroom?!
