"Of course, we’re having meat!" said Lily Wong.
"And drinks too!" chimed in Merlin Bradley, "To celebrate Vera’s newfound freedom."
Archie Perkin laughed and suggested, "How about hot pot? What does everyone think?"
"Yes!"
The crowd responded in unison.
By this time, Kris Cooper had already packed up his computer, preparing to leave.
"Mr. Cooper, you’re not coming with us?" Archie Perkin said while hugging Vera’s shoulder, "Aren’t you afraid we’ll get your wife drunk?"
No one knew about their current complex relationship, so they continued to tease them just like before.
"Exactly, Mr. Moneybags, aren’t you going to pay?" Lily Wong added.
"That’s a given, the boss has to treat us! Mr. Cooper, I’ve been craving Aldness Residence’s prime beef for so long; you can’t refuse!"

"Alright, it’s on me!"
"Yay! Long live the boss!"
The crowd cheered together.
Everyone packed their things, ready to go. As they got into the car, Vera was delayed because she went to the bathroom, so by the time she came out, there were no seats left in the van.
Seeing her come out, Lily Wong waved her hand and closed the car door.
"Vera, we’ll go first, see you at Aldness Residence!"
The van headed out of the neighborhood, leaving Kris Cooper in his sports car and Vera standing on the steps.
Vera bit her lip, eventually walking over and reluctantly sitting in the passenger seat.
Kris Cooper held the steering wheel, saying nothing.

She glanced at his profile and reached to open the car door.

With a gesture, he locked the door.
She withdrew, looking at him, finally unable to hold back.
"Dr... Drive already!"
Without a word, he just reached over, pulled the seatbelt, and buckled it heavily.
That’s when she realized she’d forgotten to fasten her seatbelt, so she quickly secured it.
The car started and moved forward.
All the way, he just drove with pursed lips in silence.
The atmosphere in the car was extremely awkward. Vera wanted to say something to ease the tension but didn’t know what, so she turned to look at the street scene outside the window.
Finally, the car arrived at Aldness Residence. Seeing Lily Wong and the others waiting at the entrance, she quickly got out and joined them.
Together, they went upstairs and found a private room.
Naturally, the two main seats were left for her and Kris Cooper. Kris Cooper took his seat unceremoniously, while Vera, seeing the crowded table, resignedly sat down.
Soon, the food and drinks were served, and everyone raised their glasses to toast Vera.
"I... I can’t drink!" Vera picked up her teacup, "I’ll... use tea instead of wine."
"Vera, you’re such a buzzkill!" Archie Perkin stood up, "You can’t handle much, but at least drink a little. Everyone’s so happy today; what’s it if you don’t drink at all?"
"Well, I’ll... I’ll have a sip then."
Just as she raised her glass, a large hand reached over her shoulder, holding both her hand and the glass.
The familiar touch, the familiar warmth...
She turned her face, and there was Kris Cooper right next to her, bringing the glass to his lips. He lifted his head, downed the wine in one go, and didn’t forget to show the empty glass to everyone.
Then he lifted his left hand and finished his own drink in one go too.
While drinking, he kept his right hand in place, holding her hand and the glass, his entire arm wrapping around Vera.
