I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO-Chapter 720 - 717: Can’t Separate, Can’t Tear Apart (1)
Vera Wave stood on the steps, her hands, hanging at her sides, slowly clenching.
Forcibly suppressing the desire to rush into his arms and break into a fit of tears, she laboriously lifted her heavy right foot, gritted her teeth, clenched her fists, and walked onward without looking back. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
She walked briskly, fearing she couldn’t resist the urge to stay, to take one last glance at him, to turn around and throw herself into his embrace...
"Miss Wave?!"
Tommy Taylor hurried over. Upon seeing her, his face lit up with delight as he rushed to greet her.
"Let her go!" Kris Cooper roared from the steps.
Tommy Taylor glanced at Kris Cooper in confusion, then turned back to Vera Wave. Seeing her give a slight, reluctant nod, he watched as she quickened her pace, walked past him, and swiftly exited the hospital gates.
"Sir?" Tommy Taylor cautiously approached Kris Cooper. "Should... should we send someone to follow her?"
Kris Cooper didn’t respond. Instead, he took large strides down the steps. Concerned, Tommy Taylor hurried to follow him, calling their driver on the way.
The car pulled over, and Kris Cooper got into the backseat.
"Sir, where are we going?" the driver asked.
"Back to the company." The three words were almost squeezed out from between Kris Cooper’s clenched teeth.
As the car drove out of the hospital gates, Kris Cooper turned his face toward the roadside.
Spotting a girl in a white T-shirt, he unconsciously leaned forward, only to realize it wasn’t Vera Wave. Annoyed, he sank back into his seat and angrily swept the laptop beside him aside.
The laptop, usually his most prized possession, was now carelessly tossed away, a clear indication of his extreme fury at that moment.
Both Tommy Taylor and the driver sensed his anger, and neither dared to speak.
When the car returned to Ashton, Kris Cooper pushed open the door and got out. Tommy Taylor hastily came over, picked up the laptop Kris Cooper had tossed aside, and only breathed a sigh of relief after checking it for damage.
This custom-made laptop, with its spectacular memory, CPU, and other hardware components, was the device he found most satisfactory to use.
Tommy Taylor followed him silently up the stairs, daring not even to breathe too loudly.
Once upstairs, Kris Cooper had just entered his office when Kate Palmer walked in.
"Mr. President, regarding the matter of the company’s image spokesperson..."
CRACK!
The pen Kris Cooper had just picked up snapped in two. Startled, Kate Palmer froze, her words dying in her throat.
Tommy Taylor quickly waved her away. Her timing was beyond unfortunate, akin to stirring up a hornet’s nest, he thought.
Understanding the hint, Kate Palmer quickly backed out of the office. Tommy Taylor also quietly slipped out the door.
Kris Cooper picked up a cup from his desk. His peripheral vision caught a framed photo of himself with Vera Wave. He slammed the cup back down onto the desk surface, then reached for the photo frame, intending to throw it. However, after lifting it about ten centimeters, he forcefully set it back down.
Gazing at the photo of Vera Wave smiling radiantly, he slowly straightened up and leaned closer to it.
"Just what did I do wrong? Tell me... You leave when you want, you get a divorce when you want... Just what do you take me, Kris Cooper, for...?"
Pulling open a drawer, he forcefully tossed the photo album inside.
"Go on, leave... And once you’re gone, don’t you ever come back!"
A moment later, he reached out and pressed the button for the internal line.
"Mr. President?" Tommy Taylor’s voice sounded from the intercom.
"Call her! Tell her to come and fulfill her contract! If she refuses, sue her for breach of contract!"
"Her," of course, referred to Vera Wave. Vera Wave had been Ashton’s image spokesperson. Although she was his wife, company procedures still had to be followed, so she had also signed a contract with the company.
