I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO-Chapter 711 - 708: Pregnant?! (33)
"That’s Lucy Clark’s enemy," the elderly female prisoner next to her said softly. "Irene Spencer framed her; that’s why Lucy Clark’s in here. Lucy Clark is working so hard to get her sentence reduced because she wants to get out and get revenge!"
Irene Spencer?!
Vera Wave squinted, staring at the name scratched into the wall with jagged, uneven lines, a strange expression dawning on her face.
Anabel Wilton had already confessed in court. Vera had originally thought this whole ordeal was over.
Everything had been settled. Did it make any sense for Anabel, now incarcerated, to continue pretending to be innocent?
No, it didn’t!
Could it be... The real culprit behind the explosion was Irene Spencer?!
"Miss, how many years were you sentenced for?" the female prisoner asked.
"I..." Vera snapped out of her thoughts. "I... URGH—" Before she could finish speaking, she was overwhelmed by uncontrollable dry heaves. She rushed towards the trash can, retching a few times but not bringing anything substantial up.
"What’s wrong?" the female prisoner asked with concern.
"My stomach’s a bit upset."
Vera finally stopped retching and moved to the edge of the bed. She poured a little warm water into a cup from a thermos flask, drank a few sips, then curled up on the bed, hugging her knees.
As the female prisoner began telling her own tale of crime, Vera listened absentmindedly. Before she knew it, dusk had begun to fall.
The guard came and unlocked the cell door, calling Vera to dinner. The elderly female prisoner was bedridden and too unwell to go, so Vera offered to take her meal tray and followed the guard to the cafeteria.
In the cafeteria, the female prisoners were lining up for their meals.
Vera picked up a tray and joined the line. The smell of food wafting around the tables caused her to retch uncontrollably again, and she quickly ran towards the cafeteria exit.
"What are you doing?"
The female guard at the door immediately stopped her.
Vera covered her mouth. "The... the restroom!"
Seeing her discomfort, the female guard quickly led her to the nearby restroom. Vera leaned over the sink, dry heaving for a good while before finally calming down.
The female guard frowned, tore off a piece of tissue paper for her, and muttered, "Young ladies like you shouldn’t misbehave and end up in places like this. Take this time to properly reflect on your actions!"
"Thank you." Vera wiped her mouth, washed her face, and then returned to the cafeteria. She got her food and found an empty seat.
Before she even picked up her chopsticks, merely smelling the food sent her rushing back to the restroom again.
The female guard, noticing Vera’s unusual condition, immediately reported it to her superior and took Vera to the infirmary.
The female doctor in a white coat, with a gentle tone, gestured for Vera to sit down. She then inquired about Vera’s specific condition: where she felt uncomfortable, what her appetite was like, and other similar concerns.
Vera answered each question.
"Are you married?"
"Uh..." Vera hesitated. "Sort of, I guess."
"When was your last menstrual period?"
"Last..." Vera paused. As she racked her memory, she suddenly straightened up, her fingers instinctively going to her abdomen. "Are you saying... I’m pregnant?!"
Counting back, quite some time had passed since Liliana Davis’s incident, and she hadn’t had her period. With so many things happening before, she hadn’t paid it any mind.
Now, with the doctor’s reminder, she suddenly recalled that even if she couldn’t remember the exact date, it had been at least a month and a half since her last period.
She and Kris Cooper had never used any contraception. Could she really be carrying his child?!
"You don’t need to be so anxious." The female doctor smiled at her and gestured for her to sit down. "I’m just asking a few routine questions to check all possibilities."
