Chapter 692: Chapter 691: Pregnant?! (14)

They helped him onto the couch, and Henry Cooper glanced around the room.

"Where’s Vera? Quickly call her here. She’s been worried sick these past few days."

The reminder only made things worse; Kris’s face immediately clouded over.

"This won’t do. I need to go and get her back now."

He turned and was about to dash towards the door.

"Kris!" Lucille Matthias grabbed his arm. "Vera has already released a statement to the public. It’s beyond our control now."

Kris gritted his teeth in anger.

"That wretched girl!"

"What happened?"

Henry Cooper was still utterly clueless.

"Father!" Bailey Hansen began, "Vera surrendered at the police station so Kris could come back."

"What... she... she surrendered?" Henry Cooper became even more perplexed. "Why on earth?!"

"This... it’s not something we can explain in a sentence or two," Christopher Cooper said, standing up. "How about this: Bailey, you stay here and take care of Father. Lucille, Kris, and I... we’ll go to the police station and see Vera first."

Scoldings aside, Christopher naturally still felt for his son and understood Kris’s current anguish.

And so, Bailey stayed behind to tend to the elder Cooper, while Christopher, Lucille Matthias, and Sophia Thompson accompanied Kris to the police station.

Kris, at times, had a temperament like his mother’s—rather impulsive. Christopher worried that Kris might do something rash in the heat of the moment, so he decided to accompany him as well.

As the four of them climbed the steps and entered the administrative building’s main hall, they saw two people negotiating with staff. Not too far away stood another man; it was none other than Nathan Leafcastle.

Nathan, upon seeing Kris step through the door, arched an eyebrow and strode towards him.

"What are you doing here?" Kris asked, displeased.

"I believe that’s a question I should be asking you, don’t you think?" Nathan retorted, his cold gaze fixed on Kris’s face. "Letting a woman take the blame for you—is that how you love her?"

"Vera’s and my affairs are none of your business!" Kris shot back and started to walk away.

Nathan sidestepped, blocking his path.

"This matter doesn’t just concern you and Vera. Kris Cooper, let me tell you, don’t think you can escape punishment this way! You’re a murderer, and as for your despicable family, I’ll make all of you pay the price!"

"Mr. Leafcastle!" Sophia Thompson stepped forward, pulling back the incensed Kris. "My client has been released without charges. What you’re doing amounts to a personal attack, and I have every reason to sue you for defamation!"

"Mr. Leafcastle!"

Just then, Ashton rushed over with his assistant and grabbed hold of Nathan Leafcastle.

"Any progress?" Nathan asked him.

"We’ve already spoken with them," one of the men who had been negotiating said. "I’m going in to see Ms. Leaf now."

Nathan nodded. "Let’s go."

"Mr. Leafcastle!" Ashton hurriedly caught his arm. "Miss Yi only agreed to meet the lawyer; she said she doesn’t want to see you. Could you... wait outside for a little while?"

Kris scoffed from across the way. Nathan clenched his fists, on the verge of exploding.

"Mr. Leafcastle!" Christopher Cooper stepped forward, shielding his son. "This is a police station. I must remind you to watch your words and actions."

The man’s voice was not loud, yet it carried an undeniable air of authority.

Meanwhile, Ashton, also worried that Nathan might do something impulsive, immediately pulled him toward the door with his assistant.
