Chapter 673: Chapter 673: It Must Be a Coincidence (4)

Lucille furrowed her brows. "So quickly?"

"The reason I know is that they approached me only this morning, and I declined," Sophia Thompson said as she sat down. Her assistant took out a laptop and sat beside her, prepared to take notes. Her gaze landed on Kris Cooper and Vera Wave. "Both of you are the parties involved in this case, and I’d like to have a thorough discussion with you."

"Alright then." Lucille stood up. "Vera, Kris, let’s go sit somewhere else."

The two understood and left with Lucille immediately.

Sophia Thompson wasted no words and got straight to the point.

"I’ve seen all the other documents. What I want to know now is, regarding this meeting, did Liliana Davis invite you, or did you invite her?"

"She invited me. She called me the night before it happened and sent me a text message the next day specifying the time and place of the meeting."

Sophia Thompson nodded. "Then, what was the reason for your meeting?"

Hearing this, Vera also turned to look at Kris Cooper. This was exactly what she wanted to know.

Kris Cooper’s gaze swept over Vera, and his tone became hesitant. "This..."

Sophia Thompson reached out and lightly patted her assistant’s arm.

"Wait for me outside."

The assistant stood up and left. Sophia Thompson then looked back at Kris Cooper.

"Can you speak freely now?"

"Is this very important?" Kris Cooper asked.

"You could say this is the key," Sophia Thompson said.

Kris Cooper took a shallow breath. "Actually, it’s nothing, just some business matters."

"Did you have any business conflicts?"

"Not exactly a conflict, just some unpleasantness."

Sophia Thompson’s gaze lingered on Kris Cooper’s face for a moment before moving to Vera.

"Miss Wave, could you please tell my assistant there’s a document in my car and ask her to fetch it for me?"

"Of course."

Vera stood up, glanced at Kris Cooper, and walked out.

Once outside, Vera sat on an empty chair in the corridor. She propped her chin on her hands and stared at the reception room door, lost in thought.

Of course, she knew Sophia Thompson wanted to send her away. She had also noticed Kris Cooper’s hesitation—he was clearly very concerned about his meeting with Liliana Davis and didn’t want her to know.

Why was that?

The image of that document flashed before her eyes, and her heart clenched.

Could it be...that what Nathan Leafcastle said was true?!

After a while, Sophia Thompson finally came out of the reception room. Turning to Vera, she walked over with a smile.

"You can go in and chat with him for a bit. I’ll have a few more questions for you later."

Vera stood up and walked into the reception room. Kris Cooper immediately rose with a smile and embraced her.

"I just spoke with Lawyer Thompson. She said my case is straightforward and it won’t be an issue even if it goes to court. Does that put your mind at ease?"

Despite Kris’s casual tone, Vera couldn’t relax.

"Kris, I remember you said you’d help me find out the truth about Walter Wave’s bankruptcy... Do you have any leads yet?"

After asking this, Vera lifted her face, staring into his eyes.

Kris Cooper’s amber eyes narrowed slightly. "Why are you asking this all of a sudden?"

Vera lowered her face, resting it against his chest. She spoke, masking her true feelings, "It’s just... after seeing Aunt Liliana’s death, I... I thought of Dad."
