I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO-Chapter 639: Pay Attention to the Image
These two were long-term customers of the restaurant, so the owner naturally recognized them. Seeing the four of them dressed as they were didn’t surprise him in the least. He led the group directly upstairs to the private room reserved exclusively for Kris Cooper and Bailey Hansen.
Back in the day, Kris had proposed to Bailey at this very restaurant, presenting her with an engagement ring over dinner. Even after they married, they often returned for the grilled meat. Later, due to urban planning, the area was slated for demolition. The developer happened to be Ashton. When Kris heard this, he wanted to preserve their memories of the place. He found a way to save the restaurant and rebuild it on its original site as a two-story grilled meat restaurant.
Of course, this made the owner incredibly grateful. Consequently, the largest private room on the second floor became the couple’s dedicated space, always welcoming them whenever they visited.
Without another word, the owner asked with a smile, "Same as usual?"
"Add two more vegetarian dishes, please." As Bailey took her seat, she smoothed her skirt and then said with a smile, "Let me introduce you. These are my son and daughter-in-law. Please take good care of them if they come here in the future."
The owner looked at Vera and couldn’t help but exclaim with a smile, "This young lady is so elegant! One look at her, and you can tell she’ll bring prosperity to her family and her husband. You three are truly blessed. Please wait a moment – I’ll get your dishes ready right away."
In no time, large platters of vegetables and meat were served. The dishes were simple, but the meat was grilled to perfection—golden brown and slightly charred. The mere smell of it was mouthwatering.
After wiping her hands with a wet towel passed to her by Christoper, Bailey pushed one of the grilled meat platters towards Vera. Bailey then, without hesitation, pulled another platter in front of herself and Christoper.
"You two can chat if you like, but I’m starting to eat now!" Bailey announced.
Christoper smiled, picked up a skewer, and said, "Vera, try it and see if it suits your taste. If you need any different seasonings, just ask Kris to get them for you."
Vera picked up a skewer and took a bite. As expected, the meat was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, neither too fatty nor too dry, and seasoned just right. The generous amounts of cumin, sesame, and chili added a rich flavor. Every bite was crispy and fragrant.
"It’s so delicious!" Vera immediately exclaimed.
"Of course," Bailey said, looking up from her skewer. "I’ve been eating this for over twenty years and still haven’t gotten tired of it."
"More than twenty years?" Vera asked, her eyes wide with surprise.
Bailey naturally continued on the topic, "That’s right. When your Uncle Kris proposed to me, we were eating kebabs from this place..."
She paused, then burst into laughter. "That night, someone actually lost the ring!"
Nearby, Kris passed her a cup of tea. "Have some barley tea before you eat more," he advised, "so you don’t get indigestion later."
And so, the family of four chatted and ate. Initially, Vera was somewhat reserved. After all, she felt she had to mind her manners in front of her in-laws. But as they continued to eat, she forgot all about her earlier reservations. Soon, both her hands and mouth were shiny with oil, and even her cheeks weren’t spared. Her cheeks puffed up as she ate, making her look like a complete little foodie.
Hearing Bailey expose Kris’s embarrassing past stories, Vera couldn’t help but laugh. Kris didn’t eat much. While eating, he still attentively took care of Bailey, pouring her water and serving her food.
When Vera heard Bailey recount how Kris had practically "kidnapped" her to the Civil Affairs Bureau to get married, she widened her eyes. "Kris, you really ’kidnapped’ her to the Civil Affairs Bureau?"
"The staff at the Civil Affairs Bureau even asked me if I was marrying him willingly," Bailey said. "I should have said no right then and called the police to have him arrested!"
