Chapter 540: Chapter 538 Ouch, Wife! (2)

Kris Cooper forced a cold sneer from between his gritted teeth. "Alright, say it. What is so important?"

This time, facing Kris Cooper again, Nathan Leafcastle’s tone was much colder.

"It concerns her privacy. I cannot tell you."

"Alright, very good!" Kris Cooper turned towards the elevator. Spotting a security guard by the elevator entrance, he turned back and pointed at Nathan Leafcastle. "Remember this man. Don’t let him set foot inside the Ashton Building!"

Nathan Leafcastle’s eyebrows twitched sharply. As he watched Kris Cooper saunter toward the elevator, anxiety welled up inside him, and he called out harshly.

"Kris Cooper, stop!"

Kris Cooper turned around slowly, giving him a dismissive glance.

"I don’t want to put Vera in a difficult position, which is why I’ve been showing you some respect... Learn to take a hint!"

It was only because he was considering Vera’s past relationship with Nathan Leafcastle and didn’t want to put her in an awkward position between them that he was showing any restraint. Otherwise, Kris Cooper would have dropped all pretense of courtesy long ago.

With that said, he turned to enter the elevator.

"Kris Cooper!"

Nathan Leafcastle rushed over. Seeing this, the security guard immediately stepped forward to block him.

"Sir, this is Ashton Real Estate. You can’t come in without a legitimate reason."

"Kris Cooper!" Nathan Leafcastle stared at Kris Cooper, who had already entered the elevator and was leaning nonchalantly against its wall. In a heavy voice, he called out, "If you’re a man, come out!"

The elevator doors were slowly closing. As Nathan Leafcastle spoke, the gap between them had narrowed to less than a palm’s breadth.

Gazing at the nearby elevator doors, Nathan Leafcastle gritted his teeth in anger.

DING!

A crisp sound, as a pair of hands thrust themselves between the elevator doors just as they were about to close.

Kris Cooper pried the elevator doors open with both hands and stepped out. He tucked his car keys into his suit jacket, then shrugged off the jacket itself, tossing it to the security guard, who hastily caught it.

"Mr. President, should we call for backup?"

Kris Cooper began to undo his cufflinks, then squeezed three words out through gritted teeth.

"Just him?"

"I don’t want to fight you." Nathan Leafcastle stood ramrod straight. "I want to have a serious talk with you about Vera!"

Kris Cooper undid his other cufflink, casually dropping the two gemstone cufflinks on the floor.

"Her affairs are none of your business. We have nothing to discuss." Kris Cooper pointed towards the exit. "Scram, or... beat me. If you can beat me, I won’t stop you. Vera is upstairs; I’ll take you to her!" 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

Nathan Leafcastle glanced at the security guard.

"What I want to talk about concerns her memory!"

"She doesn’t need it." Kris Cooper’s voice was cold. "Furthermore, I’m telling you clearly right now: don’t even think about trying to help her regain her memory again. I forbid it!"

"By what right do you forbid it?" Nathan Leafcastle’s voice rose. "Even if you two are truly married, you can’t restrict her freedom!"

Kris Cooper scoffed. "I don’t know anything about ’freedom.’ All I know is that I want her... to live as if in a dream, able to have anything she desires, be it the wind or the rain."

"That’s just your wishful thinking! Have you ever asked her how she feels, or what she truly wants?"

"I don’t need to ask. I know what’s best for her."

"Oh, really?" Nathan Leafcastle roared. "If she truly doesn’t want to recover her memory, why did she go to Dr. Winson Summerton?"
