"Beef stew with potatoes, and..."

As one person casually responded, their gaze shifted to her. Upon recognizing her face, a piece of beef held between their chopsticks slipped and fell onto her beautiful skirt.

She jumped in fright and hastily stood up, but a large oil stain remained on her skirt. Now, she couldn’t care less about her skirt; holding her chopsticks, her face turned pale.

The worst thing about gossip is having the person it concerns overhear it. Considering what I just said, she... she wouldn’t have the CEO fire me, would she?

"This oil stain will probably be hard to wash out; what a shame for the skirt!" Mary, always sharp-tongued, stepped up to defend Vera Wave. She patted the person’s shoulder and said with a smile, "Next time you’re eating, focus on your meal first before meddling in others’ business. It’s easy to choke if you talk while eating!"

"Let’s eat!" Vera Wave spoke softly.

It’s just a meal; there’s no need to be so dramatic.

People will say what they want; how could I control what comes out of their mouths?

With Walter Wave having gone bankrupt, she had long grown accustomed to all kinds of sarcastic remarks and had learned to remain calm.

As several of them headed towards a vacant table nearby, a low voice drifted from behind them.

"So she just slept with a badass, huh?"

The remark was dripping with scorn.

Merlin Bradley, who was behind them, heard it clearly. A disgruntled expression appeared on her face as she turned to look back, but everyone at that table was engrossed in their food, making it hard to tell who had spoken.

Merlin Bradley exclaimed indignantly, "How can you all be so awful!"

"Merlin!" Vera Wave turned around. "They’re not wrong. I *did* sleep with a badass..."

She walked over to their table, leaned down, and glanced at a work badge one of them had placed there.

"The Engineering Supervision Department. Nice. A very important department!"

With that one comment, the faces of the women at the table turned green.

One of them immediately stood up, rushing to apologize, "Ma...Manager Vera, we... we didn’t mean anything by it!"

"Well, I didn’t mean anything by it either!" Vera Wave casually tossed the work badge back onto the table. "I just wanted to remind you all of a couple of things about me. I can be quite petty, and I have a very long memory for grudges. So... next time you decide to badmouth me, make sure I don’t overhear you. Otherwise, what if I accidentally let your names slip to Kris Cooper? It would be such a shame if you lost your jobs over something like that, wouldn’t it?"

The woman who was standing had already turned deathly pale. "Ma...Manager Vera, we’re so...sorry!"

All three female employees at the table immediately stood up, bowing their heads and apologizing to her one by one.

"Manager Vera, we’re sorry!"

Vera Wave arrogantly flicked her nails and chuckled.

"Look at you all, taking a joke so seriously! Sit down, sit down!" She laughed, gently pushing them back into their chairs. "Actually, I have another flaw: I’m terribly forgetful. I’ll definitely have forgotten your names by the time I finish this meal. Feel free to visit us at the Planning Department whenever you have time!"

"Sure!"

"Okay!"

The women immediately nodded vigorously, all traces of the malice from their earlier hushed gossip completely gone.

"Enjoy your meal, ladies!" Vera Wave said to them before turning to her own companions. "Let’s go, we need to eat too!"

Arriving at the vacant table, Vera’s group took their seats. Mary immediately gave her a thumbs-up from across their tables.

"Totally badass, Vera! I’m seriously impressed, utterly convinced! That’s exactly how you have to deal with people like them; they love nothing more than to wag their tongues behind people’s backs all day long!"

"Oh, come on, look who’s talking! Aren’t you just the same?" Merlin Bradley retorted bluntly, calling her out.
