I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO-Chapter 468 - 466: The Only One I Love is You (10)
The sky was still raining, sweeping across and pouring down. It smashed onto the blossoming cherry blossoms, drummed against the newly unfurled leaves, and pelted Kris Cooper’s body and face.
Soon, his short hair was drenched by the rain, hanging down wetly, sticking to his forehead.
He paid no mind to this, simply dashing quickly down the stairs.
"Vera... you damn brat! Get out here right now! Hiding from me, are you? Don’t let me find you!"
...
...
"Grandma?!"
After mistaking another person for her grandmother again, Vera Wave, panting, stopped and crouched down, clutching her cramping stomach.
Last night, she’d stuffed herself with beef and hadn’t eaten anything since. Now, her stomach was incredibly sour, and it felt as though something was about to surge up. She hunched over and retched a few times, but nothing came out.
"Vera!" Nathan Leafcastle held an umbrella for her, reaching out a hand to lightly pat her back. "Are you okay?"
Crouching on the ground, she retched again, but still, nothing came out. Vera wiped her face with the back of her hand and looked up at Nathan Leafcastle.
"Brother Nathan, do you think I’m completely useless? I... I actually lost Grandma... I... I really deserve to die..."
"Nonsense!" Nathan Leafcastle helped her up and wiped the rain from her face with a handkerchief. "Everyone makes mistakes sometimes. Grandma isn’t thinking clearly right now; she can’t even recognize the roads herself. You don’t have to blame yourself so much. If we can’t find her here, I’ll take you to the police station later to file a report. Trust me, Grandma will be fine!"
Vera stood before him, biting her lip, unable to speak.
If something truly happened to her grandmother this time, she really wouldn’t know how to face it.
Seeing her pale little face framed by her soaked hair, Nathan Leafcastle felt his heart ache for her.
He reached out and placed his hand on her shoulder.
"Don’t be sad; this isn’t your fault. Let’s go to the park’s management office first. If there’s still no news, I’ll take you to the police station in this area. Then we can put out missing person notices in the newspapers and on the radio. We’ll try every channel. Grandma will definitely be found!"
"Mhm." Vera nodded softly, her face full of gratitude as she looked up. "Thank you, Brother Nathan. If it weren’t for you, I... I really wouldn’t know what to do."
"Let’s go. We’ll start at the park management office."
Nathan Leafcastle put his arm around her shoulder and led her towards the park management office.
From a small path diagonally opposite them came the sound of hurried footsteps, accompanied by an angry man’s cursing.
"Bastard! Get out here!"
Hearing that voice, Vera’s heart leaped into her throat. Her raised right foot missed its step, and her whole body lurched, nearly causing her to fall. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Luckily, Nathan Leafcastle caught her shoulder just in time.
She turned her face.
Peeking out from under the dripping edge of the umbrella, she saw Kris Cooper, wearing only a shirt, run out from the small path not far away.
His clothes and hair were soaked. He had clearly rushed out; two buttons on his shirt were fastened incorrectly, leaving it askew.
She stared blankly for a few seconds, then turned and hurried up the steps.
"Vera?"
Nathan Leafcastle chased after her worriedly.
Hearing the sounds from their direction, Kris Cooper, who had run nearby, turned his head. At a glance, he saw the figure rushing up the steps, trying to leave.
"Vera!"
He called out urgently.
Vera lifted her foot onto the last step.
"If you take one more step, I will never forgive you!"
The man roared, his voice hoarse.
