I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO-Chapter 445 - 444: The Girl from Six Years Ago (48)
At that time, Christopher Cooper walked over, standing behind Bailey Hansen.
Not receiving a reaction from him, Bailey Hansen grew even more anxious.
"Speak!" she demanded.
"Dad!" Kris Cooper’s gaze fell on Christopher Cooper. "I want to talk to you."
Bailey Hansen looked increasingly frustrated and said, "What’s wrong with you? Just say what you need to say!"
"Bailey!" Christopher Cooper raised his hand and placed it on Bailey Hansen’s shoulder, gently prying her hand, which was gripping his arm, away. "Go change your clothes and freshen up. I need to have a talk with him."
Bailey Hansen wanted to say more, but she felt Christopher Cooper’s hand tighten slightly on her shoulder. Sensing his firmness, she took a deep breath and nodded.
"Alright, you two talk then!"
Patting her shoulder, Christopher Cooper walked towards the study room. Kris Cooper immediately followed him inside, closing the door behind them.
Watching the father and son disappear behind the door, Bailey Hansen had no inclination to change her clothes or wash her face. She simply crossed her arms and stood outside the study room door, waiting.
What on earth could be so important that Kris would storm in this early in the morning to find his father?
「Inside the Study Room.」
Christopher Cooper walked over to the window and leaned against the sill, watching his son enter. Detecting the smell of smoke on him, Christopher Cooper frowned slightly.
This boy smokes so much!
"What do you want to talk about?"
"The Deer Island Project. Were you involved?" Kris Cooper asked directly.
The Deer Island Project?
"You mean..." Christopher Cooper quirked an eyebrow. "The project in Singapore?" 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
"That’s right."
Christopher Cooper looked at his son’s expression. "Do you think I’m the one who destroyed Walter Wave Real Estate?"
Kris Cooper’s eyebrows shot up as his father’s words hit home.
Could it really be as he suspected?
No, it wasn’t him. It definitely wasn’t him!
He frowned, staring at his father’s face, trying to discern something from his expression.
Christopher Cooper observed his son’s distraught expression and shook his head sympathetically.
"It wasn’t me."
A light flickered in Kris Cooper’s eyes, but his gaze remained fixed on his father’s face, as if he feared he had misheard.
"Do you need me to swear an oath to the heavens for you to believe me?" Christopher Cooper asked.
Kris Cooper paused for a moment, then quickly shook his head.
"I believe you."
Christopher Cooper’s smile returned, and he spoke again.
"It’s true, without Walter Wave Real Estate, Ashton would be invincible in Imperial City, and I did once think about how to swallow this competitor." Christopher Cooper shrugged. "But you should know, being a master can be lonely. A world without any competitors would be quite boring. Besides, you know my style; even if I truly wanted to do it, I wouldn’t use such methods. As for the Walter Wave Building, you should understand the nature of a businessman."
He continued, "That building was right there. If I didn’t buy it, someone else would have. It was a profitable venture, and naturally, I wouldn’t let someone else take it."
A cynical smile touched Kris Cooper’s lips.
"Dad... I’m sorry!"
Deep down, Kris Cooper didn’t actually believe his father would do such a thing.
It was just that the circumstances were too coincidental, and he couldn’t help but feel uncertain.
Especially since Vera Wave was involved; if this were true, he would never be able to face her again.
After all, it wasn’t just Walter Wave Real Estate that had collapsed, but also Vera Wave’s father, her only living relative.
When his father said, "It wasn’t me," it felt as if the sky above him had instantly cleared.
"Alright!" Christopher Cooper smiled, extending his hand to pat his son’s shoulder. "I understand. I was young once too; I know what you’re going through right now."
