I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO-Chapter 443 - 442: The Girl from Six Years Ago (46)
Logically speaking, Walter Wave is not a match for Ashton in terms of potential or strength, so why did Walter Wave Real Estate emerge victorious in the end?
Could it be... this has something to do with my father?! No! Impossible!
Kris Cooper immediately denied this conjecture. He knew his father’s style. His father always preferred direct confrontations. Even if he truly wanted to take over Walter Wave, he wouldn’t resort to such underhanded tactics.
But, what if?!
Objectively speaking, if Walter Wave were to fall, it would be entirely beneficial to Ashton Real Estate. Ashton Real Estate currently controlled most of Imperial City’s real estate, a fact that was not unrelated to Walter Wave’s bankruptcy.
Recalling what his father had specifically asked him during dinner, Kris Cooper felt a flicker of uncertainty.
He placed the documents on the table, opened a drawer, and took out a cigarette, putting it to his lips. He then picked up his phone and found his father’s number.
His finger hovered over the call button for a moment, but he ultimately pulled it back. It was already the early hours of the morning; calling now wouldn’t be appropriate.
Tossing the phone back onto the table, he opened the drawer again, took out another cigarette, placed it between his lips, and walked out onto the balcony to light it.
It was early morning. Although city lights still twinkled outside, an utter silence reigned. He exhaled a long stream of smoke, watching it dissipate in the air, and suddenly, he deeply missed Vera Wave.
That girl... she must be asleep by now, right?
Leaning against the railing, he flicked the ash from his cigarette, his gaze shifting to the wedding ring on his left ring finger.
Six years. It took so long to find her.
Now, he just hoped this matter wasn’t connected to his father or Ashton Real Estate. Otherwise, he truly didn’t know how he would face that girl’s eyes.
It was the early hours of the morning, the darkest time just before dawn.
He took another drag from the cigarette then turned and went back into his study room. After crushing the cigarette butt in an ashtray, he grabbed the documents from the desk, strode out of the study room, snatched his car keys, and left.
A few moments later, a car sped out of the apartment complex, heading towards the old Cooper family home.
The eastern sky was still dark; dawn was still far from arriving in the city.
Kris Cooper drove into the residential area where the old Cooper family home was located and parked the car at the entrance. He looked at the darkened old house, switched off the engine, checked his watch, and then picked up the documents again.
Staring at the text, his eyes took on a profound depth.
「Meanwhile」
On the other side of the city, in the old Wave Clan residence, Vera Wave was also wide awake.
She stepped out of her room and looked up at the dim, starless night sky. Faint traces of tears still lingered on her small face, and her eyes were filled with sorrow.
Dawn will break soon. Tomorrow... where should I go? What should I do?
Should I pretend not to know and continue to bask in his affection?
Or should I wake myself from this beautiful dream and leave him?
He loved that other girl so much... He must be cherishing me as a substitute for her. If I leave like this, he’ll be heartbroken, won’t he?
She lifted her right hand and looked at the wedding ring in her palm. Vera Wave slowly tightened her fingers, clenching the ring, then squatted down and sat on the steps, lost in thought.
Dawn was approaching, and a new day was about to begin.
What changes would this new day bring to the world?
Vera Wave didn’t know. At this moment, her heart was filled with nothing but confusion.
Good night, little princesses! (I bet you’re all asleep~!)
