Chapter 404: Chapter 404: The Girl from Six Years Ago (7)

With these thoughts running through her mind, Vera Wave’s heart began to harbor some doubts.

She remembered quite clearly that not long after she met Kris Cooper, she noticed a pair of rings hanging around his neck.

She hadn’t paid them much attention before. Thinking about it now, however, she realized there was no way these rings were specifically purchased for her.

Could there be some hidden story behind these rings?

As she was contemplating this, her door was knocked on once again.

It must be Irene Spencer bothering me again, Vera Wave thought. She rolled her eyes and stayed put in her chair.

"Enough is enough!"

Vera Wave sat in her chair, playing dead. After a moment of silence, the knocking began again. She still ignored it. Then, after a few more knocks, it stopped.

The silence lasted only a few seconds before her cellphone rang.

On the screen, the name displayed prominently was "Top Customer". Vera Wave’s mood instantly brightened, and she answered the call.

"Honey!"

"Where are you?"

"In my room!"

"Open the door."

Open the door?

Vera Wave looked at the door with uncertainty. Slowly, she got up from her chair, phone still in hand, and walked over to it as a sudden possibility struck her.

She reached the door, grasped the handle, and slowly pulled it open.

Light from the room spilled out, illuminating the hallway.

In the corridor stood Kris Cooper. Phone in one hand and a paper bag in the other, he was smiling at her with his arms wide open.

"Honey!" Vera Wave exclaimed joyfully, her face beaming, as she threw herself at him, hugging his neck. "What brings you here?"

Kris Cooper held her tightly, burying his face in her neck and deeply inhaling her scent.

"Weren’t you happy to see me?"

"Oh, no, it’s not that! I’m just surprised!" Clinging to his neck and inhaling his familiar scent, she smiled, planted a peck on his cheek, then slid out of his embrace. "Come in!"

As Kris Cooper followed her into the room, he glanced around and frowned slightly. "Is this where the production crew arranged for you to stay?"

Vera Wave, however, seemed perfectly content. "It’s a standard room. It’s quite nice already."

Not far away, Irene Spencer watched them disappear into the room through the crack in her door, her fingers tightening their grip on the doorframe. A moment later, she frowned with worry. Vera wouldn’t tell Kris Cooper what I just said, would she? Her heart pounding with anxiety, Irene bit her lip and quietly crept to Vera’s door to eavesdrop.

「Inside...」

Vera Wave led Kris Cooper to sit on the edge of the bed. She took the paper bag from his hand, placed it on the table, and then spoke with a beaming smile.

"Weren’t you supposed to be back in Nicosa? So why did you come here?"

"The Glimmer Building in Vanora was just inaugurated. I went for the ribbon-cutting ceremony and then flew straight here from Desberg. I don’t have anything pressing tomorrow, so I can accompany you on set. Then we can return to Nicosa together."

"Oh my god, really? That’s amazing!"

He put his arm around her waist, pulled her onto his lap, and gently smoothed her slightly tousled hair.

"So, is everything going smoothly this time?"

"Of course! I’m a natural-born actress!" She tilted her chin up proudly. "Director Li even invited me to be the lead in his next film!"

Kris Cooper raised an eyebrow. "Did you accept?"

"Of course..." She paused dramatically, watching his handsome eyebrows furrow in adorable confusion before she finished, "I didn’t!"

"Really, you didn’t?"

"Well, I’m about to marry into a wealthy family anyway!" Extending a finger to playfully twirl his tie, she said with a mischievous smile, "My husband is rolling in dough, so why would I need to work so hard? Don’t you agree, darling?"
