"Alright," Vera laughed, looking at her approaching floor. She turned her face towards him and playfully bit his chin before scurrying out of the elevator, giggling, "Husband, bye-bye!"

"Be careful!"

Vera shot her a playful glare. "Get lost, money-hungry!"

As soon as she turned on her phone, she received several messages and Whatsapp texts, all from ’Money-Mad’.

Just as Vera was about to open them and see why ’Money-Mad’ was so urgently trying to reach her, there was a knock at the door.

She hurriedly opened the door to see Kate Palmer’s assistant standing in the doorway.

"Vera, the Director asked you to come to her office."

"Alright, I’ll be right there!" Vera replied. She quickly grabbed the report she had prepared the day before from the table, shoved her phone in her pocket, and followed the assistant to Kate Palmer’s office. After the assistant left, Vera placed her report on Kate’s desk.

Kate was on the phone. She took the report and motioned for Vera to take a seat while she continued her conversation.

After a while, she hung up the phone, glanced through the report in her hand, and looked at Vera.

"Since the manager in the Design Department has resigned, I plan to transfer Mark over there. I’m thinking of entrusting you with the Planning Department’s work."

Vera, who had just sat down, immediately stood up when she heard this.

"No, no...I can’t!"

She had only started her job a few days ago and hadn’t even passed her probationary period yet. How could they accept her in a managerial role? "Really?" Kate leaned back in her chair with a smile. "No guts?"

"I...I definitely have guts!" Vera retorted. "You know my situation. If I become the manager now, everyone will think I got the position because of Kris."

"So, when do you think...people will stop commenting about you?"

Kate’s question left Vera speechless.

No matter what, Kris’s position would always be there, and their relationship was now public knowledge. No matter how hard she worked, people would still think she had the job because of his influence.
