Chapter 362: Chapter 362: A Smile That Crumbles (Part 1)

In the ward, the nurse stopped the medication and carefully removed the escaped IV needle from Nathan Leafcastle.

Liliana Davis rushed into the ward, seeing the blood on her son’s hand, she frowned with heartache, and her gaze turned to the nurse, questioning unhappily.

"How did it become like this?!"

"Mom, it’s not the nurse’s fault." Nathan Leafcastle pressed the cotton ball on his hand, "I was careless myself."

Liliana Davis took a light breath and didn’t say anything more, just reached out to help him press his left hand.

The nurse took a new medicine tube, disinfected his right hand, reinserted the IV needle, and with a gentle wave from the assistant, the nurse exited the room.

Ensuring that his hand wasn’t bleeding anymore, Liliana Davis discarded the cotton ball, and Nathan Leafcastle picked up the file on his knee again, reading carefully.

After watching her son’s profile for a moment, Liliana Davis stood up, gestured to his assistant, and walked out the door, with the assistant hurrying to follow.

It wasn’t until they reached a corner far from the ward that Liliana Davis stopped, "Does Kris Cooper know about Vera Wave?"

The assistant’s face showed a hint of regret, "I... I just told him. I’m sorry, ma’am."

Liliana Davis frowned but didn’t blame him.

The news couldn’t stay hidden, such big news, it’s impossible that Nathan Leafcastle wouldn’t find out.

"What was his reaction?"

The assistant sighed, "Although he tried hard to disguise it, I could still see that he was very emotional." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

"How was his appetite today?"

"He only had a few sips of porridge in the morning, no matter how much I persuaded, he wouldn’t eat more." At this, he looked at Liliana Davis for help, "Ever since being hospitalized, Mr. Leafcastle has been very down, spending each day either working or staring out the window. Ma’am, you should try to console him, if this continues, his body won’t handle it!"

Liliana Davis nodded gently, "How’s the company doing over there?"

"Nothing major," the assistant said.

"You should go back to the company first, keep an eye on things for him. It’ll be a bit of a hassle for you while Leafcastle’s hospitalized these few days."

"It’s my duty," the assistant smiled at her, "I’ll head back once Mr. Leafcastle signs this document."

The two of them returned to the ward, Nathan Leafcastle had already finished reading the document in his hand, signed it with his left hand, and handed it to the assistant, who then packed up the files and left the hospital.

Nathan Leafcastle leaned on the pillow, his gaze turned toward the window.

Imagining Kris Cooper putting a ring on Vera Wave’s finger, a dull pain struck his chest, and his hands slowly clenched on the blanket.

"Nathan!" Liliana Davis pressed down on his hand, gesturing for Linda to leave, "If you have something on your mind, Mom would be happy to listen to you..."

Nathan Leafcastle relaxed his fingers, turned his face, and smiled at her.

"I don’t have anything on my mind!"

Looking at his slightly pale face, Liliana Davis felt a wave of heartache.

He had been so sensible since he was a child, especially after she separated from Mr. Leaf.

At that time, they had just arrived abroad and faced exclusion, because of his Asian appearance, he was often ostracized at school. No matter the grievances he suffered outside, he never mentioned a single word at home, just to avoid worrying her.

No one knows a son better than his mother, just by looking at him, Liliana Davis knew what he was thinking, watching her son’s face, noticeably more haggard than before, she sighed in her heart with heartbreak.

"Nathan, I know you’re having a hard time, but I hope you can pull yourself together, after all, love isn’t everything in life."
