I Am The Only Witch Hunter-Chapter 309: Kraus the Hunter
Siderius grabbed Kraus’ head. His red eyes shined even brighter.
The power of the vampire eyes, to look into the mind of the victim. Siderius couldn’t hypnotize him like a true vampire but he could surely see his memory.
The power of the red eyes connected to the Alchemical Palace. Suddenly, Siderius found himself back in his mind space once more but now in his old body. A door materialized in front of him. An old shabby wooden door that belonged to a whore house.
"So this is where your heart lies, Kraus."
Siderius pushed the door open.
A while later. Kraus woke up. His eyes shot open and he saw himself laying his head on the table.
Kraus looked up to see Siderius sat cross-legged on the opposite side.
"Did I pass, my lord?"
Siderius smiled faintly. He placed a knife onto the table. It was a knife he made with Dull Steel that he transformed with Mercury Seal. It was more durable than any steel out there and had teeth along its blade.
"I am impressed, Kraus. You have temptations and you have doubts. But you choose to believe in me in the end."
Kraus’ pupils dilated. "You saw my memory?"
Siderius nodded. "Why ask? You don’t like it?"
"If I said I am not, that would be a lie, my lord. I am uncomfortable, that is the truth. But my loyalty to you is unyielding."
"I know. That’s why I will give you this blade."
Kraus picked up the blade. It had carvings on the spin of the blade.
"Magister Speculatorum... What does this mean, my lord?"
"Master of the Spies. From this day on, Kraus, you will be Lord Spymaster of Snowfell. You will be my right hand man for gathering intel in Snowfell."
Kraus bowed deeply. "I am very grateful for your kindness, my lord."
Siderius stood up and flapped his cloak. "I did say that I will give you power as well. Follow me."
"Yes, my lord!" Kraus stood up in excitement.
Siderius didn’t intend to teach Kraus how to use Alchemy. He wanted to give him the mutation himself. Later on, if anyone wanted to become a witch hunter, they’d have to go to the Warden Selection just like other soldiers do.
Spies were different. Siderius and his apprentices would do the mutations. Grafting mutations for others could also be a great practice for his apprentices.
"We are hunters." Siderius said. He purposefully withdrew the word ’witch’. "Hunters of mutations. By grafting the organs of beasts, we can become more powerful than any human and even comparable to witches.
But there is a catch. Just like how witches can easily lose themselves and become a creature of unlimited desire. We can become monstrosities.
The first rank of the hunter is Extima, the outer organs.
Extima had Ocula, mutations of the eyes.
Sonara, mutations of the ears.
Odora, mutations of the nose.
Tengura, mutations of the skin.
And Ultima, the ultimate mutation.
These mutations strengthen our body and turn them into living weapons.
Tell me, Kraus, what do you want for your first Ocula?"
The two of them rode horses to the Rottin Woods. For normal mutations, the woods had all the required materials ready to be grafted.
Kraus thought deeply then he asked. "Will my choice affect my power in the future, my lord?"
"Of course. An utility Ocula could expand your human vision, allowing you to see in the dark, see in far distance, or even through smoke. An offensive Ocula would focus purely on strengthening your body.
The first kind you need to think hard about as each ability is unique. The second type... Well. You just need to pick which attributes you want to enhance.
Strength of a gorilla. Speed of a bird. Reflex of cat. And many more."
"I understand. If that’s the case, I would like to improve my speed."
"Your speed, huh? Then why don’t we make you a cat mutation. This can help with your agility and also grant you dark vision."
"It sounds perfect, my lord."
Siderius nodded his head.
He and Kraus went inside the woods and tried to find some wild cats. Kraus was also a very capable hunter as well.
It didn’t take them long to find one. A feisty wild cat that was very lively.
Kraus held it by the head and lifted it up.
"What should we do now, my lord?"
"Now, we need to prepare you for the mutation process."
Kraus’ body was strengthening enough. He was a cutthroat after all.
Kraus quickly prepared a room inside the hide out with all the tools necessary. The other spies also helped around.
Siderius prepared a bed for Kraus to lie down. He hurled the blade over fire and doused it in Fire Antibiotics to disinfect.
"The process will be painful. Imagine the most excruciating pain you’ll ever feel. You will also have a chance of becoming completely crazy."
"I am not afraid, my lord."
"I know, Kraus. I know. Tie him down."
The other spies tied Kraus to the bed. All of his limbs were restrained tightly.
"The first thing I need to do will be to cut out your eyes. Are you prepare?"
"I am, my lord!"
Siderius placed the two clean eyeballs of the cat on the operating table. They had killed it mercifully and took its eyes.
He summoned the silver bracer and quickly turned those eyeballs into mercury mutations.
Then he approached Kraus with the operating knife and a bottle of liquid.
"This is Bael Thorn Extract. It will stop the feeling of pain in your eyes."
"Then I have nothing to worry about." Kraus smiled.
"You still do, Kraus. Even without the pain of the body, it will be painful mentally. Let’s begin."
Siderius poured a few drops on Kraus’ eyes, turning his pain receptors off. Then he made two precise incisions on each of his eyeballs.
Siderius shoved the mercury mutations into Kraus’ eyes.
Kraus cried Mercury’s tears and he lay peacefully on the bed.
Everything seemed to go well but suddenly, Kraus began to squirm and struggle.
"Control it, Kraus. Stabilize your breath, you have gone too much to let a mere cat destroy you." Siderius shouted solemnly.
His voice led Kraus back from the madness. The former cutthroat calmed down and breathed. He endured the pain that went deep into his spirit.
