I Am the Only Fertile Woman in the Game-Chapter 196: Your Preferences
"...I can eat anything, what would Teacher Guan like to eat?"
This meal was her treat, so naturally, she deferred to the other’s preference.
Guan Weizhi grasped the steering wheel and looked straight ahead, "Let’s have Japanese cuisine then." After speaking, he watched her expression through the rearview mirror on the right.
Qiao Suisui of course agreed, nodding obediently at the moment, though she felt somewhat anxious inside.
She knew that the price range for Japanese cuisine wasn’t easy to grasp; a few hundred might be enough for a hearty meal, whereas a few thousand might only buy a bottle of wine.
The Tesla sped along the road directly to the city center. Instead of the crowded commercial district she had imagined, it pulled up to a serene private garden, which even had guards standing watch at the entrance.
Qiao Suisui got out of the car, looking around. Pavilions and water kiosks, and the lingering sound of a flute; it was a very elegant Suzhou-style garden architecture. In such an expensive area, this place looked less like a restaurant open to the public and more like the private garden of a wealthy or noble family.
Guan Weizhi led her to the entrance, where a lady in a kimono, speaking in slightly unstandard Chinese, bowed deeply to them.
"Oh Mr. Guan, it’s been a long time since you last came. How have you been recently?"
Guan Weizhi showed little expression and nodded slightly as a greeting. He said, "Yamamoto told me they got fresh bluefin today, I’ve brought the kid to try it."
Qiao Suisui was momentarily stunned, blinked twice, then realized she was the ’kid’ referred to by Guan Weizhi.
The kimono-clad woman’s face bloomed with a smile, warmly gazing at Qiao Suisui and gracefully gesturing for them to enter with a ’please’.
"Welcome, it’s an honor, please come in."
Qiao Suisui had noticed many cars parked outside the garden when she first arrived, and now asked uncertainly, "Do we need to wait for a table?"
The kimono-clad woman paused, looked at Guan Weizhi, and covered her mouth with a gentle laugh. She tenderly told Qiao Suisui, "Mr. Guan’s preferred spot is always reserved for him; there is always a table available whenever he comes."
She followed the kimono-clad woman to a room deep inside. The doors slid open from both sides, revealing a view of a cherry blossom garden through the room’s floor-to-ceiling windows.
In the center of the room, a low lacquered wood coffee table stood quietly, with a set of delicate ceramic tea ware placed on it. The surrounding decor added to the ambiance. Qiao Suisui walked in, sat down, and immediately recognized an original work by Song Huizong hanging on the wall—a piece she had only ever seen in museums before. It was clear the restaurant’s owner was more than just wealthy.
And yet such an owner always had a spot reserved for Guan Weizhi…
Thinking of this, Qiao Suisui glanced at the man sitting across from her.
The two sat opposite each other, Guan Weizhi quietly drinking tea, occasionally glancing over.
At that moment, their eyes met directly, and within a microsecond, Qiao Suisui quickly looked away, turning her gaze towards the window.
Guan Weizhi thought she was attracted to the cherry blossoms outside, and said, "It’s still early for the cherry blossoms, they’ll be even more beautiful later."
Actually, Qiao Suisui wasn’t looking at the cherry blossoms; she was just watching the cherry blossom petals falling outside, recalling whether her savings were enough to cover the meal.
Private garden, city center, unique scenery, master painter’s works, rows of luxury cars parked outside... After this meal, she would end up like a gambler fresh out of Las Vegas, broke at best, praying not to be in debt.
Eating with Guan Weizhi was too expensive; she decided she wouldn’t do it again. Qiao Suisui silently thought to herself.
Guan Weizhi wasn’t very talkative, or rather, he never needed to say much at the gatherings he attended. There would always be others to warm up the crowd, flatter, and find topics to prevent the silence. He just needed to be himself.
But it was clear that the girl in front of him was different from those people.
She was very quiet, only responding briefly with a sentence or two when he asked questions, never initiating conversation or asking questions of her own.
Therefore, Guan Weizhi found himself somewhat at a loss.
Just like now, he noticed she wasn’t eating much and couldn’t help but ask, "Don’t you like Japanese food?"
Qiao Suisui was momentarily stunned. "Teacher Guan, how did you know?"
Guan Weizhi paused for a second, looked away, and said, "I guessed. Don’t all little girls love these dishes?"
In fact, the so-called Japanese food that Qiao Suisui liked was the fast food type from a $299 meal deal on a social media giveaway, which probably wouldn’t even count as Japanese food in Guan Weizhi’s eyes.
Initially, she only knew him as a teacher who lectured on art theory, but later she learned that his family was a titanic presence in the finance sector. Now, having this meal with him, she began to really understand the kind of world Guan Weizhi inhabited—a world where the ordinary for him was a place most people may never enter or even see in their lifetimes.
Thinking this, Qiao Suisui felt that her small gesture of wanting to express gratitude was barely noticeable.
So, she simply continued the conversation briefly and then focused on eating the natto in front of her.
But Guan Weizhi was becoming a bit impatient.
Some time ago, he had stumbled upon Qiao Suisui’s social media by chance and decided to create an account to follow her. Her profile was tidy, devoid of selfies and the constant churn of trivial posts; she posts very infrequently, usually only once every few months, mostly pictures of clouds under various weather conditions. Her most recent post was a re-share of a giveaway Lin Xixi had asked her to post, after hearing about a newly opened izakaya having a promotion, and they went there to feast after winning.
"Actually, I don’t come to this restaurant often," Guan Weizhi suddenly said.
"Oh, is that so."
"I don’t really like Japanese food either."
"Then... shall we go somewhere else now?"
Guan Weizhi sighed.
Suddenly, he felt that there was nothing so distressing as having to make an effort to please someone.
He said, "I brought you here because I thought you liked Japanese food. If you don’t like it, you must tell me, and I’ll take you to eat something you do like."
Qiao Suisui’s hand paused mid-air with her chopsticks, and she said in confusion, "Teacher Guan, my preferences aren’t important; this meal is to thank you. You liking it is what’s most..."
"Important." Guan Weizhi locked eyes with her and said, "Your preferences are very important to me here."
Qiao Suisui’s breath hitched, her eyes flitting with slight panic, feeling it odd to hear such words from someone with Guan Weizhi’s stoic, abstinent demeanor. She put down her chopsticks and asked, "Teacher Guan, are you... are you perhaps..." fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
As the words reached her lips, Qiao Suisui felt it was inappropriate to ask. What could it be? Aside from their roles as student and teacher, could someone of Guan Weizhi’s class and status actually like her?
She lowered her head to dispel the jumbled thoughts in her mind, sincerely saying, "Teacher Guan, I really want to thank you for helping me secure that opportunity, and I’m really happy you brought me to such a nice place to eat. If you don’t like Japanese food, maybe I can treat you to something else another day?"
This time, it was Guan Weizhi who didn’t respond immediately. He stayed silent for a while, then looked at her and asked, "Do you really not remember?"
