Chapter 31 - Freshman Induction

It was the day of Freshman Induction.

Jules had left the Inn early, wanting to get to the Hall before it became crowded.

He made his way to a section of the Institute's grounds dedicated for ceremonies like this.

He reached the hall and took a seat midway down the center column.

The high ceiling hall was filled with rows of chairs under dim light. At the end of the hall, in front of the seats, stood a podium, with the Institute's banner hanging on the wall behind it.

A lectern stood at the center of the podium, draped in white cloth with golden embroidery.

At exactly 10 a.m., over 1000 freshmen had gathered, excitement and tension thick in the air.

The program started with an explanation by a First Year Head Instructor Jules recognized to be Abigail Peru–the woman that was present at his Entrance Exam.

With her outgoing presence, she introduced the Institute's system, including class structures, scheduled events, rules, and other essentials while giving the harsh reality of remaining weak to the Cadets.

Her explanation helped Jules better understand her role in the novel as he nodded along.

After that, she said:

"Now, we'll be introducing the top 5 cadets based on the exam results. Please come forward once your name has been called."

The noise in the hall remained quiet as they began calling.

"Rank 5. Raedrin Valtoris."

"Rank 4. Caelthirion Slytherins"

Elves have weird names! Jules couldn't help but comment inwardly as he held back his chuckle.

"Rank 3. Finn."

A change... Finn is meant to be Rank 2. Jules's mind quickly raced. Yeah, the Entrance Exam is actually better suited for Magic users in a way. He's using magic less now...

I'm fine with little change as long as it doesn't affect the events.

All of a sudden, Jules shivered as his eyes widened.

"Rank 2. Elarina Vaelithen."

"Rank 1. Alma Valmourn."

As the Rank 2 and Rank 1 stood from their seats, muttering rose like a chain reaction.

"The top 2 Cadets are females..."

"They both look good too!"

"Of course, Elves are naturally beautiful while the Rank 1 is some type of cold queen."

Feeling amused by the mutters, Jules concentrated on the Rank 1

She was likely the only other person in this set who had pushed her body to the limits like Finn.

A smile tugged at Jules's lips as he awaited what came next.

As all five stood on a straight line at the stage, Abigail added, "Let's hear a word or two from Alma Vallmourn, the Rank 1."

Alma Vallmourn didn't hesitate to walk forward.

All of a sudden, her footsteps echoed unnaturally in the hall that slowly grew silent.

Her blue eyes stared down at everyone, silencing the hall, while her short, dark blue hair fluttered dramatically

She didn't glance at the crowd or acknowledge the stares—she simply stood there, as if she belonged.

"I am Alma Vallmourn. The strongest here."

"Today, I will tell you in advance. You will all lose to me.

"Whether in duels, exams, or real combat–it makes no difference," Alma stated. "But don't hold back. Go stronger. Struggle. Improve."

Her blunt, cold voice echoed throughout the Hall, sinking into the people as they stared in shock.

Alma continued, her gaze sharp and unreadable.

"Do this not because it will help you win. But because the stronger you become, the more valuable you'll be."

Ending it there, Alma turned to Abigail, who wore an amused smile.

She gestured for the cadets to return to their seats and spoke through the mic.

"This is a wonderful way to start your time at Promethean. With this, we end the ceremony. Welcome to Promethean."

As noise burst like a bomb throughout the hall, Jules was smiling as he continued watching Alma, who stood a fair distance away from him.

All this drama because you want to turn into a wildcard for your organization. What was the Author thinking?

Jules chuckled slightly, until Alma made eye contact with him—prompting him to steel his expression.

He sat as if looking aimlessly for a while and left not wanting to provoke that crazy lady.

Was I staring too much? Nah, she was just attracted to my looks.

After a bit, Jules left the Grand Hall.

Some were mainly after their uniforms, others wanted to collect room keys, while some just wanted to socialize—a skill that would be important in the long run.

Some were mainly after their uniforms, others wanted to collect room keys, while some just wanted to socialize—which would prove important in the long run.

They are giving the Uniforms based on rank. If I go there in the evening or night, they should have passed my rank so I can just overtake whoever is on the line.

This is the advantage of having a high rank here!

In the meantime, I'll go check out the library.

Navigating the Institute grounds was easy if one knew the Zones and their locations, the most you'd need to do is find your specific building within the Zone which is usually easy.

The Grand Hall was within the Administrative building, and the library was within the Academic Zone which wasn't far away.

With a clear destination in mind, Jules made his way to the library.

When Jules entered the library, it was quiet and empty—the first years were still busy after all and if the second years were here, they'd be on the second floor.

The first floor was lined with neatly organized shelves, each labeled for different subjects.

The space feels vast, but there's a stillness to it, with a few tables scattered around the room.

In the center of the room, there's a large desk where a librarian sits, quietly watching over the space. The atmosphere is peaceful, almost timeless.

Since Jules had access to this floor, the librarian simply nodded, leaving Jules to his business.

The golden-eyed boy made his way to the Magic Section, pulling out a few books and reading them at a table out of interest.

While he did, he sensed a Mana fluctuation not far from him making him think, Who's casting a spell?

He went towards the direction, seeing a male with long blonde hair, light green eyes, and a pointed ear, illuminated by the hovering orbs, cast spells and failed repeatedly.

Isn't that the Rank 4 fellow?

Jules stood reading, holding the book in his hand, glimpsing at the Elf with curiosity once in a while.

"You're doing that wrong." Tired of watching multiple failed attempts, Jules stated aloud.
