I am the Clone of a Death Row Inmate-Chapter 140 - 135: Senior Ye Jin
Su Ze gazed at the azure sea and golden sand before him, but there wasn’t a single person in sight.
’If this were my past life, it would have been packed with tourists,’ he thought.
But on Blue Star, ordinary people didn’t dare vacation at the seaside. There was always the risk of being attacked by Marine Beasts.
Last night, he had discussed becoming an assistant in Liou Wenxin’s lab, and she had agreed without much hesitation.
Liou Wenxin had noticed that Su Ze had no interest in attending classes, seeing as he was asking for leave every day. She figured it was better for him to learn something and get some hands-on experience in her lab.
As he was going to bed last night, Su Ze gave it some thought. He had used "going to see Ning Yushen" as an excuse to take a seven-day leave, but two days had already passed and he hadn’t even set out yet. That wouldn’t do.
Since he had to go sooner or later, Su Ze took a plane to Lihai City first thing this morning.
He had originally planned to bring Mr. Ya with him for extra security. However, considering that Mr. Ya was busy digesting extracts and also had to frequently feed the Dung Eaters, he set out alone.
Su Ze dared to travel alone, unafraid of being tailed by the Filth Earth Organization or the Zhao Family, because he had an ace up his sleeve.
That ace was the new wondrous item he had obtained: the Hundred-Change Mask.
He was now wearing a different face. His handsome features were concealed, replaced by an unremarkable, average-Joe look.
"It’s so great not having to bring luggage when I go out."
Through his clothes, Su Ze touched the earring hanging from a cord on his chest. With a storage item, his hands were completely free.
The only drawback was that this storage item was an earring. Su Ze wasn’t about to get his ear pierced to wear a women’s earring, so he had threaded it onto the cord and turned it into a pendant.
After arriving in Lihai City, he didn’t head straight for the naval base. Instead, he first took a stroll along the seaside.
Lihai City was the easternmost city in the Dongli Kingdom and also the entire kingdom’s only coastal city.
Moreover, Lihai City bordered Luofan Country to the south. The two nations had always had a poor relationship, with frequent conflicts breaking out along the border.
This unique geographical location put Lihai City under immense pressure to defend its borders, which was why Ning Yushen, one of the Dongli Kingdom’s four Guardian Gods, was permanently stationed there.
’It’s almost lunchtime. I’ll go try some of Lihai City’s famous seafood first, then head to the naval base in the afternoon.’
...
「Lihai City Naval Base.」
A soldier at the gate stopped a seemingly ordinary young man and asked, "Who are you looking for?"
Su Ze said, "I’m here to visit Mr. Ning."
The soldier paused for a moment before realizing that the "Mr. Ning" Su Ze mentioned was Ning Yushen. His first reaction was that someone was causing trouble, but he still asked, "Do you have an appointment?"
"No."
Seeing the soldier’s gaze grow wary, Su Ze sighed helplessly and dialed the phone number he had gotten from Principal Zhou Wenshan, which was said to be a contact for Ning Yushen.
The call was answered after just one ring, but the voice on the other end was male.
"Hello, who is this?"
Su Ze stepped aside and said, "This is Su Ze. I’m here to visit Mr. Ning."
There was a pause on the other end before the person asked, "When are you coming?"
"I’m already at the entrance to the naval base."
"Wait a moment. I’ll come and get you."
Not long after the call ended, a middle-aged man in a military uniform arrived at the gate. The guard immediately saluted him, then looked at Su Ze with unconcealed surprise.
He hadn’t expected that a single phone call from Su Ze would summon Mr. Ning’s secretary. He couldn’t help but wonder about Su Ze’s identity.
The middle-aged man was also taken aback when he saw Su Ze. He asked for confirmation, "Were you the one who just called?"
’I’ve seen Su Ze on TV, and he doesn’t look like this.’
"That was me." Su Ze handed over his ID card and student ID. "I’m using a disguise skill."
The middle-aged man nodded but said, "This is a restricted military area. We still need to verify your identity before you can enter. Please understand."
Su Ze had no choice but to temporarily remove the Hundred-Change Mask and reveal his true face.
The middle-aged man smiled and shook his hand. "I am Mr. Ning’s secretary. My name is Jia Yuan. Mr. Ning is out on urgent business. Please, come in and have a seat."
The guard’s eyes went wide; he had clearly recognized Su Ze as well.
As Jia Yuan walked past the guard, he gave a quiet order to keep Su Ze’s identity confidential.
Su Ze followed Jia Yuan to a reception room, where someone brought him tea.
Jia Yuan said, "Mr. Ning had to leave on urgent business today, so he’s temporarily unreachable. Please rest here for a while. If you get bored, you can walk around the base, just don’t enter any areas marked as restricted."
Su Ze nodded. "Mr. Jia, you go on with your work. Don’t worry about me."
He sat in the reception room for a short while, grew bored, and went out to explore Dongli’s only naval base.
But after wandering around, all he saw was a group of new recruits in training.
’Are there so few soldiers at the naval base? Have they all gone out on patrol?’
After making a large loop, Su Ze returned to the reception room, feeling thoroughly bored. He had no idea when Mr. Ning would be back.
He even considered using the time to practice his Swan Dance, but decided against it to avoid social suicide.
A while later, Jia Yuan returned. "Mr. Ning might not be back for some time. Why don’t I arrange for your accommodations first?"
Su Ze thought for a moment and asked, "Mr. Jia, is Ye Jin here?"
He thought, ’Since I was called here for a blind date, I’ll have to meet her sooner or later. I’ve got nothing better to do, so I might as well see what she’s like.’
