I Am Genie-Chapter 107: Michael Gets Jumped
While following Michael to the empty place, Iris suddenly got this familiar feeling. This weird situation—it felt like she had run into it once before, right? And that time wasn't even that long ago.
"Oh great, you're suspicious of me again?"
Iris rolled her eyes at Michael. She didn't understand what nerve he'd hit lately to be this paranoid.
Weren't the few years they lived together before totally fine? Why wasn't he questioning things back then, but now he's questioning so much stuff?
"Again?"
This time, Leo was the most confused one. He really couldn't figure out what weird stuff these two had been secretly doing behind his back.
Since he'd been caught, Michael wasn't going to beat around the bush either. Now that him and Leo were here, if they found a problem, they'd immediately take Iris in for questioning.
"Spill it. How did you find us six years ago? And what was your goal? I feel like the stuff you said back then is missing something."
"F*ck! Talking about six years ago again? Why the hell didn't you ask six years ago, dude?"
Her eyelid twitched a few times, she couldn't help but curse. Michael was ninety percent sure she'd beaten him so badly his brain was messed up. His brain got stuck six years in the past, so all he remembered was that old crap.
Michael's index finger pointed straight at Iris's face, his serious gaze meeting her furious one.
"If there's nothing shady, then spill it! Otherwise, don't blame me and Leo for tying you up and taking you in for questioning."
???
No way, dude? Why are you dragging me into this nonsense? If you wanna go looking for death, go do it alone.
Leo really didn't want to poke Iris at all. Over the past few years, he understood clearly that she was the number one 'meritorious official' right now.
Just the fact that she gave Raphael a bunch of holy herbs meant she could hide as many 'little secrets' as she wanted.
Even if she betrayed them, he'd find a way to convince her to come back to the Ancient Forest to eat, sleep, and play out her days instead of running amok out here.
The promise he made, he'd still find a way to keep, even though he had no idea how to actually revive the dragon race.
Now Michael suddenly suspecting her and talking like she was actually guilty was clearly putting Leo in a tough spot.
If he immediately argued with Michael, he'd definitely sulk. Sure, Michael wouldn't betray him, but he could definitely get 'lazy'.
"This has nothing to do with you, so step aside. I need to make things clear with this dumbass. What do you want to hear?"
Iris obviously saw Leo was uncomfortable being dragged into this, so she immediately pushed him out of it.
"Everything."
Michael stood with his arms crossed, his expression triumphant like he was about to catch a 'criminal'. He didn't know why, but he felt a little thrilled right now.
"So annoying. Then I have to start from when Heaven told me the gods were about to appear. The moment the gods' auras appeared, I marked five locations. Sea God was out at sea, Sun God was on land but really far from me.
The other god was also really far from me, don't know the name, but that aura was the thing that sealed me. Only you two were closest to me, so I came that fast."
Even though her explanation was pretty detailed, it still wasn't enough to clear up Michael's questions. Until he stopped suspecting, he'd keep asking.
"Why were you so careful back then, but when you met us, you were extremely reckless? You said you transformed into a human to not miss this chance, but why did you risk your life as soon as you met us?"
???
Me being careful was wrong?
Iris and Leo looked at each other. Both of them couldn't help but twitch their eyelids a few times. This damn idiot seemed to really have brain damage.
"Did you f*cking lose your memory? Compared to meeting the other gods, getting revenge on the two bastards who caused the extinction of the dragon race was clearly way more important.
The first time I met you guys, I wanted to kill you both right away. Meeting the other gods would be, at most, like running into 'old acquaintances', but you two are the most hated enemies."
"Hmph, then why did you become our comrade? Obviously, you have ulterior motives. Leo, let's capture her."
Michael himself didn't realize how far off track he was getting. At first, he just wanted to ask why she approached them, but at some point, he wanted to… beat her up.
Leo looked at Michael with a strange look, then at Iris. The two of them, in a rare moment of agreement, nodded simultaneously. To Michael's shock, he got punched in the face by him.
His head was spinning, not knowing what just happened. He even thought Leo misunderstood him and hit the wrong person.
"Leo, you hit the wrong guy."
"Wrong my ass! We both wanted to beat you up."
"I can't take your side this time. Daring to falsely accuse a comrade is a crime worthy of a beating."
…
After a while of brawling, Michael, with a swollen, dazed face, followed behind the two. In his eyes, a spark of unyielding defiance flickered because he felt his initial reasoning wasn't wrong… even if it was wrong later, at the beginning, he clearly had good intentions.
"Did you really forget how she became our comrade?"
Leo sighed wearily. If Michael really forgot, he'd have to recount the whole story from six years ago again.
"Now I remember. I just temporarily forgot earlier."
Michael pouted as if he was feeling extremely wronged. He remembered now, it was Leo who first welcomed Iris to join them. At the same time, it was Leo who pushed him into the 'darkest' years of his life by handing over full authority for his training to Iris.
Now he got it; he understood everything. Those two were on the same side from the beginning to the end, only the poor genie was left out in the cold.
The more he thought about it, the more wronged he felt, giving him this feeling like he wanted to cry. But as someone like him, acting out a crying scene was one thing, actually crying for real was extremely hard.
