I Am Genie-Chapter 105: Down the Mountain
Thinking about knights made Michael a little curious. Were the knights in this world anything like the knights he'd read about in history books?
"Alright, enough chit-chat. Let's hurry down the mountain. That knight guy is probably almost at the village by now."
Even though he didn't know what kind of being a knight really was, that person was definitely stronger than he was right now.
"Speaking of the village, I don't think I've ever seen any villagers come up here, have I? And I've never gone down there either."
Since Iris got here, she hadn't gone anywhere. And with the busy schedule she created, Leo and especially Michael didn't have any free time to go down to the village to ask for leftovers either. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
Part of the reason was that Raphael was really diligent now, so he did everything. So there was nothing left that needed running down to the village for help with.
Back when they were kids, the village chief would visit occasionally, but now he was old and weak and couldn't climb the dangerous high mountain anymore.
"You'll know once you get down. And don't be surprised if they just stare at you. Also, don't be surprised if they're afraid of you. So just don't cause any trouble, alright?"
Leo didn't know why, but he just had a feeling he couldn't feel at ease about her, so he had to warn her beforehand. As for whether anyone would dare to harm her or not, there was no need to worry. Anyway, with Raphael watching, if there was a big problem, he would just kill them.
"I know, I know. It's just a small thing and you nag, nag, nag. It's annoying as hell."
She picked her ear, answering with a dismissive attitude. Leo couldn't see a single bit of 'reliability' in her at this moment.
Michael heard what Leo said and frowned as he looked at Iris. Even though looking at her made him want to fight, he couldn't deny that she was extremely beautiful.
If he had to talk about the only flaw he could find on her body, it was probably that her chest was almost like a guy's.
Compared to the people in the village, he felt her beauty was on a whole different level. Of course, about the chest, he ranked her dead last.
"What's with you looking at me like that?"
Michael's judging gaze made Iris feel very uncomfortable. It was somewhat okay for others to judge her but not him.
"Ah, I was just thinking this place is pretty remote. What if some guy tries to take you as his wife? I mean, without any evidence, they couldn't exactly charge them with kidnapping a noble, right?"
This point had always bothered Michael a bit. Back on Earth, he'd heard about remote mountain areas where the locals had bride-kidnapping customs.
This place seemed pretty similar to those places the media used to describe, that same kind of isolated vibe.
This world didn't seem to have things like the internet or anything that could transmit information instantly. If it did, he was sure Raphael never could have escaped being hunted across the entire continent.
"Is there something wrong with your brain?"
Iris rolled her eyes at him. She felt like her ears must be acting up to be hearing such weird stuff.
"You an idiot? Stop using the mindset from a world where a person's maximum strength is as weak as Earth's."
Leo was speechless hearing this nonsense question too. Even in the world he used to be in, that situation didn't happen because a strong martial artist could kill a thousand people at once without any problem.
"But Iris isn't that strong, though. These villagers are weak, sure, but what if we run into a different, stronger village? And what about that knight, what if he has bad intentions? If he kills her to silence her, how could anyone ever find out?"
If Iris still had the strength of a god, Michael definitely wouldn't be asking this stupid stuff, but right now she was at the very bottom of the contractor ranks.
"Are you dumb? Looking at her, anyone with a brain would guess she's from a major noble family. You think a major noble's descendant would just wander around alone with a bunch of expensive jewelry on?"
Even though being called a 'major noble's descendant' made Iris a bit unhappy, this kind of logic suited her just fine.
"And you seriously think major nobles are stupid and have no way to track down the culprit? If they can't track them down, they can just kill everyone who ever came to this place, right? The nobles have dominated this continent for tens of thousands of years. It's not easy to pull one over on them."
Michael wanted to say something, but Leo just kept analyzing a whole bunch more stuff, leaving him with no way to argue.
Only when Leo finally stopped did Michael speak up. But it wasn't to argue, though.
"I get it. That knight is a noble, so of course he'll understand the rules. If he does something wrong, forget staying a noble, he'd lose his life too. Work hard for years, no way he'd throw his life away for some stupid little girl."
He understood now that no matter how beautiful Iris was, it wasn't an issue. The social hierarchy on this continent seemed way more rigid than he thought.
"Who are you calling stupid? Say it clearly for me."
The veins on Iris's forehead bulged. First, the talk about her being someone's 'prey' had already pissed her off. And now Michael was cursing her out? Did he really think she was easy to bully?
"Hmph, whoever just spoke up is the one."
Michael felt like his worry earlier was unnecessary. How could this damn brat ever get hurt? If she did get hurt, her subordinates in the Ancient Forest would level this whole area immediately.
"Bullshit! You looking for a beating?"
Iris immediately summoned her divine artifact. She was even about to transform when Leo stopped her.
"Let's head down the mountain. If we're late, we'll have to wait another few months."
"Hmph, I'll spare you for now."
Her eyes, like bullets, stared right at Michael as she put her divine artifact away.
"Tsk, like I'm scared of you or something?"
Michael pouted, he wasn't afraid of her now. Even if they fought and he lost, she'd be pretty banged up too.
The two of them just kept glaring at each other. Sparks seemed to fly between their eyes, making Leo shake his head helplessly.
Their relationship was really weird, but actually, it wasn't exactly bad. Just now, even though Michael's question was a bit stupid, at that moment, he really was a little worried about Iris.
