I Am Extraordinary Alone-Chapter 631 - 629: Scuffle
Chapter 631: Chapter 629: Scuffle
The underground drainage facility was refurbished from a civilian sewage branch; it originally was not part of the building’s construction plan. Now, two gates sealed off the civilian water system, letting the black wastewater from the laboratory above pour out through six sewage outlets and converge into a fairly deep river of dark water. It then flowed into a newly dug water channel that led to the swamp outside the city.
Just as George had said, there were no guards. Everything was automated and, as the experiment approached its end, the drainage had significantly decreased, with the water level already below the red line.
Wang Ye and Wang Mingxue had arrived at the central reservoir, where they waited according to the action plan. Leng Kai and Mr. D were to meet with George in the city, after which George would transport his gold and "Black Medicine" jars from inside the building. Meanwhile, Leng Kai and Mr. D would leave the city first, getting the vehicle ready for their escape.
But now, they had been waiting for a while, and nothing had come yet.
Wang Ye sat against the wall, pulling ammunition boxes out of his bag and loading bullets into an empty rifle magazine while Wang Mingxue couldn’t stay still, pacing nearby and occasionally glancing toward the staircase above.
After a while more, Wang Mingxue could no longer hold back and said, "It’s too slow, too slow! Could something have happened?"
Wang Ye spoke leisurely, "Have you seen the Black Medicine jars? They’re really heavy. I think George might be having a hard time moving them, and he’s also worrying about his gold. A large quantity of gold isn’t easy to carry, and I wonder how George is managing to move so much stuff by himself."
"Should we go up and help him?" Wang Mingxue clapped her hands and suggested.
"No, that’s not how the mission is planned," Wang Ye shook his head.
"Now you’re talking about plans? What happened in the town wasn’t planned either, and you seemed pretty happy with that," Wang Mingxue said.
"That’s different. We destroyed a potential enemy force; it was a meaningful act. But risking entering the building now could lead to mission failure," Wang Ye explained.
"You’re not cautious when you need to be, and now you’re all timid!" Wang Mingxue accused, hands on her hips.
Wang Ye inserted the magazine into the rifle and chambered a round. After slinging the rifle over his shoulder, he turned to look at her and said, "It has seen us before and probably still remembers what we look like. I don’t think I need to remind you of that."
Wang Mingxue, left speechless by the retort, huffed, turned away, and continued to wait.
Wang Ye stood up, walked to the edge of the water channel, and looked at the slowly flowing dark water heading towards the city’s sewage outlet.
"Someone is coming," Wang Ye suddenly said.
"They’re here?" Wang Mingxue walked over, smiling.
Wang Ye made a hushing gesture and then picked up another rifle and threw it to her.
Wang Mingxue instantly switched to alert mode, checked the safety on the gun, pulled open the bolt to inspect the ejection port, and then followed behind Wang Ye.
The two remained silent, pressing against the wall, their eyes fixed on the corner.
Wang Ye had heard footsteps, which were very light, too light. The cautious approach was definitely not Leng Kai and his team.
He pulled a stun grenade from his bag and attached it to his chest rig, and Wang Mingxue handed him a handheld screen.
Wang Ye turned on the camera mounted on the side of his rifle, poking the barrel slightly out, and watched the situation behind the wall with a small screen in his left hand.
The corridor was empty, and the footsteps were still quite distant; perhaps the other party had not yet walked over.
The black pool beside them did not make much noise, so the noise from the underground sewage outlet was not loud enough to drown out all other sounds.
Wang Ye looked again; there were still no people in sight in the corridor, but the footsteps had gotten closer.
He no longer trusted his eyes but relied on his almost beast-like instinct to judge.
Sounds, sweat on his skin, and the adrenaline in his body wouldn’t deceive him. Trouble was coming, and it was getting closer, even though he couldn’t see it.
Humans and animals are alike; when danger approaches, eyes and ears are sometimes not the first organs to detect an enemy.
"Throw a stun grenade!!!" Suddenly, Leng Kai’s shout rang out.
Instinctively, Wang Ye pulled the pin of the stun grenade and threw it out into the corridor.
"Grenade!! There’s a grenade!!!"
Indeed, just as the stun grenade left his hand, a roar in the Federation language came from behind the wall.
Next, kicked by someone, the stun grenade flew into the nearby black pool and exploded underwater with a bang, splashing water everywhere.
Wang Ye, taking the initiative, darted out from the corner, raising his rifle to shoot but saw Leng Kai stumbling over, and the two collided, nearly falling over.
The next second, a Caucasian man grabbed Leng Kai’s head and slammed it against the wall, knocking him out instantly.
At that moment, a Black man appeared beside Wang Ye. He loosened his grip on the rifle’s handguard, drew his pistol to shoot, but the Caucasian in front and the Black man at the side both attacked, grabbing his gun barrel and with one forceful move, flung him into the black pool.
Then, a smoke grenade rolled to their feet; with a pop, a thick white smoke burst out. Wang Mingxue’s rifle roared, bullets hit the Caucasian’s shoulder and chest, the full-auto mode was exhilarating, the man was shot bloody, instantly falling back, writhing in pain.
The Black man emerged from the thick smoke, landing a punch on Wang Mingxue’s side, the impact astonishing. Wang Mingxue’s body lifted slightly, blood spewed from her mouth, and she fell, curling up in pain.
Just as she tried to get up, a thigh pressed on her neck, and a woman appeared, pinning her down.
The Black man stepped forward, ready to crush her head with his foot, but then there were loud gunshots, he suddenly grimaced, muttered "Motherfucker!", and collapsed with a line of bloody bullet holes in his back.
The woman, startled by the gunfire, took advantage of the pause. Wang Mingxue, using brute force, flipped over, landed a punch on the woman’s nose, and another toward her chin, rocking her on her heels.
By then, Wang Ye had climbed out of the pool, aimed his rifle, and fired a burst at the Caucasian, then at the Black man, changed his magazine, and went to check on Leng Kai.
Wang Mingxue was beating the woman, who moaned repeatedly, vomited, then, holding the woman’s hair against the wall, she demanded, "Where the fuck are you from?!"
"I know them; I know..., they’re the ones who bombed our town," Wang Ye said.
Leng Kai had also come to, shaking his head to clear it. The previous hit had cracked his forehead, and blood was flowing incessantly.
Wang Ye picked up the rifle from the ground, handed it to Wang Mingxue, then unlocked Leng Kai’s handcuffs, saying, "There are six of them in total, but only three are here."
Leng Kai looked at Wang Ye, somewhat angrily said, "Look at the mess you’ve made!"
"I said, let’s finish them off. It was you who wanted to keep them," Wang Ye shook his head.
