I Am Extraordinary Alone-Chapter 619 - 617: The Pilgrimage Road
Chapter 619: Chapter 617: The Pilgrimage Road
Leng Kai watched as the group of Iron Men easily wiped out all the soldiers. He observed every move of these giants, wanting to know what kind of abilities they possessed. However, from what he could see, aside from being invincible to bullets and possessing immense strength, they did not display any other formidable superpowers.
"They aren’t quick either, they just feel like oversized Iron Men, probably not even as good as the Trinity Iron Men," Wang Mingxue also said.
"Maybe they just feel that, to deal with these guys, they don’t need to use any powerful superpowers," Wang Ye said.
Leng Kai nodded, feeling that Wang Ye made sense. Using superpowers had a mental toll and also consumed physical energy, and if one could simply walk over and kill someone with a plain punch, there was no need to use any superpowers.
The carnage ended quickly.
Leng Kai said, "Let’s wait for them to leave."
"What if they don’t leave?" Wang Mingxue asked.
"Put away the guns, I’ll do the talking," Leng Kai said.
The three of them hid behind the car, watching the six Iron Men clean up the bodies. They moved around the pile of corpses, stepping down on those who were not yet completely dead.
Minutes later, the six giants looked towards the pickup truck. Then, with a leap, they landed next to it, sending a large spray of sand flying.
Leng Kai put away his pistol and walked out with his hands raised, Wang Mingxue, somewhat worried, buried her rifle in the sand and followed, while Wang Ye still clutched his rifle, standing behind the car.
"We are... we are here on a pilgrimage!" Leng Kai said.
The six Iron Men approached them, their eyes flickering with white light. They scrutinized Leng Kai, then looked at Wang Mingxue and Wang Ye.
The lead Iron Man, speaking accented Yin Country language, asked, "Do you have any other companions?"
"No. Just us," Leng Kai said.
"So, those dead on the road have nothing to do with you?" the Iron Man asked.
"No, we were also..." Leng Kai said.
The Iron Man interrupted Leng Kai, saying, "We know, an army has intruded here."
"You’re not very protective of your believers," Wang Mingxue said.
The Iron Man looked at Wang Mingxue. Leng Kai shifted his steps, positioning himself in front of her. "She didn’t mean anything by it."
Unexpectedly, the Iron Man knelt on one knee before Wang Mingxue, bowing his head, "We needed to make adjustments, hence the delay. This is a sincere apology from our Lord to you."
Wang Mingxue, taken aback by the politeness, was somewhat flustered and also stood upright, bowing, "Uh... thank you. No need to be polite."
Wang Ye slightly raised his head, emitting a disdainful snort.
Leng Kai quickly said, "It’s alright now, we can... continue on our journey."
The Iron Man stood up and said, "Avoid the nation ahead. We will be eliminating them there and wouldn’t want you to get implicated."
"The place ahead... oh, something hot... something wheat, I know," Wang Mingxue took out a paper map from her pocket, covered in a lot of markings. According to their travel plans, they were not too far from the green marker on the map, and just before the green marker, there was a small nation.
"You’ve done a lot of homework," the Iron Man seemed to praise.
"We like to plan," Leng Kai said.
"Our Lord, too, favors followers who are clear in goals and strong in action," the Iron Man said, simultaneously giving a thumbs up.
"Alright, buddy, we’ll go fix the car first, then... we’ll be off. You go do your thing," Leng Kai squeezed out a smile.
The Iron Man glanced at the damaged hub on the pickup. Lifting his hand, one side of the pickup was suspended, and the deflated hub flew off the axle with a whizz.
Iron Man twirled his finger, and the new tire in the pickup truck’s trunk flew out. The nuts that secured it spun off from the hub and, once the tire was reattached, spun back into the holes to secure it.
Iron Man withdrew his hand, and the car’s tire was changed.
"Let’s hit the road in that direction," Iron Man said.
After that, the Iron Men turned and started walking back. They had only taken a few steps when six beams of golden light descended from the sky, enveloping them. Seconds later, the Iron Men disappeared in the light.
Leng Kai watched them vanish, then pulled out a palm-sized leather notebook and a plastic ballpoint pen and began taking notes.
"What are you writing?" Wang Mingxue asked curiously.
"They can teleport; you all saw it," Leng Kai said, looking up at the golden light source in the sky.
The small light was no different from the sun; it blocked the sunlight and replaced it. The method by which those Iron Men had just been transported proved that Wei Tianyang could now remotely send his forces to any place illuminated by sunlight.
"What do you think they meant by saying they needed to adjust?" Wang Ye asked.
"They can control metal, but they didn’t demonstrate any extraordinary speed... I guess their ability is still not complete. He is using some technological means to optimize them, damn it... we might have to deal with these guys in the future. If we don’t take the Black Medicine, we have no way to deal with these Iron Men, let alone deal with Him," Leng Kai said, hands on his hips.
"The Trinity Black Medicine isn’t so easily granted to us, and the Triangular-level Black Medicine is meaningless. Besides, I don’t really want to stick needles into my spinal cord. After my arm broke, they implanted a synthetic material as a replacement forearm bone. I always feel my hand is no longer pure," Wang Mingxue said.
"I’m open to taking the Black Medicine. If it’s necessary and they’re willing to arrange it, then I’m willing. Didn’t we come here just for His Black Medicine? Perhaps... that stuff will eventually be used on us," Leng Kai said.
"I don’t know if this is a good thing. Perhaps this isn’t our turn, or maybe... not many people are willing to take the Black Medicine. Wang Ye, what do you think?" Wang Mingxue looked at Wang Ye.
Wang Ye slung his rifle over his shoulder and, with a meaningful look towards the sky, said, "Do you know why He was on the surgical table back then?"
"The decrypted documents said He volunteered to be a Medicine Person for money," Leng Kai said.
"I don’t think so... Leng Kai, I don’t think so," Wang Ye shook his head while still gazing at the sky.
"What... what are you thinking?" Wang Mingxue, seeing the uncertainty in Wang Ye’s eyes, asked worriedly.
"That thing," Wang Ye pointed to the golden light in the sky, "that thing...perhaps it’s inevitable."
"Inevitable? I think... if His living environment had been slightly better back then, perhaps things would have been very different," Wang Mingxue said.
"No, not Him, there would be another. Medicine People exist objectively, in a shitty environment, there will always be some who lie on the operating table for money. That’s why I say, He is inevitable," Wang Ye said.
"I understand what you mean..." Leng Kai said.
"This world doesn’t deserve heroes... doesn’t deserve better people... superpowers, pharmaceutical companies, Medicine People... military, countries... no... they’re worthless, nothing at all," Wang Ye shook his head as if he had seen through everything.
"Wang Ye..." Leng Kai said.
"Don’t tell me you’ve become His follower," Wang Mingxue said.
"No, no, no... I’m different from you guys. I joined the military with a criminal record, I was sentenced to death, I even escaped from prison. If you ask me if I believe in the law, I don’t. I’ve had a few encounters with Him. He indirectly saved me once, directly another time. I increasingly feel that He and I are similar," Wang Ye said.
"I’ve seen your file, I know you’ve been through a lot," Leng Kai nodded.
"This world is a pile of shit, a maggot-infested pile of shit. Out of this shit, a Maggot King was born," Wang Ye said, pointing at the golden light in the sky. He continued, "He wants to turn this shit into a better place, that’s what He told me. I don’t believe it because... how can you turn a pile of shit into something better?"
"That’s a philosophical question now," Wang Mingxue said, arms crossed.
"A pile of shit will only get trampled into a puddle of shit, have you ever played with shit as a kid? Stuff a firecracker in it, and then... bam! It’s gone. He’s about to do just that, and he doesn’t even realize it," Wang Ye said.
"Ah, you suddenly became a philosopher," Leng Kai laughed.
"We maggots can only live in this pile of shit. He wants to destroy this pile of shit, even though it really is horrendously awful... I don’t agree, so... if there’s some Black Medicine that gives me the power to kill Him, then bring it on," Wang Ye said.
