I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 33: She’s interested in me
Getting back to the company, Ariel went straight to the control room with Raymond’s permission.
"Should we let her be?" White asked and Raymond paused. When had White ever been concerned about such matters? Anyway, he answered.
"Let her be."
Ariel checked with the men in the control room, Marco’s routine. Where he usually went and when he went there. This was so that she could make a ’coincidental’ meeting with him.
He was currently making a cup of coffee and was alone.
This was a good opportunity. Ariel squeezed her fists, thinking for a while. She didn’t want to see Marco’s face. Maybe if she imagined him as someone else when he talked to her, she would feel better.
Ariel went down to where Marco was, wearing her heels once more. Her appearance shocked the employees and they stared in anticipation.
"What do you think she came here to do?"
"Maybe cause trouble."
"You don’t think she came here for Chief, right?"
"Oh no, what if she came to take out her frustration on him?"
Unaware of her actual thoughts, they watched in silence.
Ariel met Marco washing his mug, ready to head back to his desk. She got to where he was but he didn’t really notice or raise his head to look at her so she decided to get his attention.
Ariel groaned and leaned on the wall right next to him.
Marco looked up and on seeing her, his eyes widened.
"Oh God, why do my feet hurt so much now, of all times?" She muttered loud enough for him to hear. "Ugh."
Marco was dumbstruck. She was so pretty up close.
"Hey." Ariel called and he flinched. "Do you just stare at a lady who’s in pain?" She asked, her gaze fiercely boring into his eyes.
"Ah, right." He made a move to help her but he didn’t know what exactly he was helping her with.
"Help me take off the shoes." She said, sitting casually on the cabinet and lifting her feet for him.
Marco couldn’t understand what was going on but there was no way he would ignore the wishes of this beautiful lady sitting right in front of him.
Once his hands were on her legs, Ariel almost flinched at the disgust she felt but held it in.
Marco was amused that she let him touch her leg so easily so a funny idea came to his mind. ’What if she’s interested in me?’
Yeah, his mind went there right away and Ariel didn’t need to do much.
"That’s enough." Ariel said, once she had gotten rid of the shoes that were killing her leg. "Hah, you have such nice hands, do you know that?" She smiled at him and Marco stood there, stunned.
Ariel held her shoes in one hand and brushed over his shoulder with her other hand, charming him with her smile and finally taking her leave.
"She’s interested in me." He concluded right away but paused.
He couldn’t help but feel that there was something about her that felt too familiar. He couldn’t pinpoint exactly what it was.
"Hey, Chief. What was that just now?" A few of his subordinates asked, eyeing Ariel as she walked away.
"She felt uncomfortable walking in her shoes." Marco simply answered.
"Was that why she came all the way here?"
"Maybe the boss was too busy and the Chief caught her attention."
"Oh my, you don’t think... "
Marco cleared his throat, dispersing their speculating conversation.
"It’s still work hours." He reminded them and they quickly went about what they were meant to do.
Though Marco said that, he was secretly elated that he had caught the attention of such a fine lady. She was way prettier than Clara.
After getting home that day, Clara noticed something odd as Marco walked past her.
"Wait a minute, what’s that?" She asked and he turned, wondering what she was going on about?
"What do you mean?" Clara walked up to him and grabbed his shirt, showing him the faint lipstick stain that no one has noticed till now.
"What’s this?" She asked. "And... And this harsh perfume that’s lingering faintly around you." She bit her lip. "Who did you go to see?"
Marco shrugged from her hold and adjusted his shirt.
"Do I look like someone who has the time to fool around?" He asked. "I might’ve been like that in the past but now I’m even too busy to spend enough time with you."
"Then... "
"I don’t work with men alone, Clara." He rubbed the back of his neck tiredly. "There are a bunch of women who try to get my attention, so maybe one of them did this out of jealousy." He explained and brushed his hands over his hair.
"You should keep a better distance." She mumbled, folding her arms and Marco almost rolled his eyes.
"Anyway, is dinner ready? I’m starving." He asked, changing the subject and she nodded.
"Yes, the meal is ready. Go get changed and I’ll have them set the table." Clara said and Marco made his way upstairs.
Once in the room, he took off his shirt and looked at the faint lipstick stain. He didn’t even know when that got there but he knew who it belonged to more than anyone.
He kissed the lipstick stain and hugged the shirt. If he could have her wrapped around his arms, maybe he could even ask her to talk Raymond into giving him a better promotion.
Yes, that was good too. If he could make her fall hard for him, she’d do anything for him, right? A brilliant plan.
Only, he wasn’t so brilliant and didn’t even realize he was being led straight into a trap.
On the way back to the mansion, Ariel stared out the window as the car drove steadily along the busy roads. Raymond was silent with his eyes closed. It was really late and they had yet to eat dinner but none of them were hungry. After all, they ate closer to evening than they did to noon.
Ariel secretly watched Raymond through her window’s reflection.
’Is he sleeping?’ She wondered with her head resting on the chair. ’He must be exhausted. It’s not easy running such a big company.’
She heard a few things. A few things that helped her understand better that without her Raymond was more than capable of getting revenge on the people he hated.
So to him, helping her must’ve been an act of charity... An act of pity. And since it was convenient that she was so submissive and obedient, he kept her around.
That meant the only way to keep this going was if she didn’t grow wings of her own. Honestly, the only wings she wanted to grow were the ones that could slap the Albert family, as well as Marco, hard on the face.
Other than that, she had no problem living as a puppet whatsoever, in as much as it meant she wouldn’t be fighting alone.
"I can’t mess up." She muttered and closed her eyes. "I don’t want to get abandoned again."
Raymond, who Ariel thought might’ve been asleep, opened his eyes on hearing her little mutter. He glanced at her for a second and then looked outside his own side of the window.
