Hyper-Dimensional Player-Chapter 472 - 73: Barbarian, 7 Descends to the Sea_2
As soon as he leaped into the ocean, Duncan encountered turbulent currents. After much struggle, he managed to escape, drifting unknowingly with the ocean flow to an unknown location.
The dwarven equipment was too heavy.
Duncan only kept a small dagger for cutting meat; it was impossible to swim in the ocean wearing full cold iron armor. Most of the items could be discarded without issue, but he hoped Hegel wouldn’t throw away his grandfather’s weapon, which had the potential to become legendary.
——"Military Weapon Master."
There’s nothing much to say about this—a type of conceptual ability, with a special effect on military weapons, usually obtained by defeating a large number of soldiers.
——"Unarmed Combat Mastery: An ancient combat skill of unarmed fighting, prevalent in places like Ancient Egypt, Ancient India, and the Ancient East, but developed much later into a system than the use of weapons by humans."
The hands, though the natural weapon of humans,
from the rise of humanity, they relied on external objects. Martial arts as a complete system was a relatively late development.
Swords, knives, spears, sticks—are all superior to fists.
In real combat, few strike unarmed. Those martial arts masters would still be chased and hacked by enemies in heavy armor unless there’s an Eastern cultivation system providing additional support, otherwise, unarmed combat often isn’t practical.
Duncan stretched his limbs, replenished his stamina, and then searched for fresh water.
He had no idea where he had drifted.
As time passed, the lineage engraved within him was taking shape, and his appearance slightly changed, somewhat resembling a Dragon Vein Mage, gaining a hint of distinctive charm. His appearance began to slightly blend with that of the No. 1 human form, with some facial angles slightly resembling those of the No. 1 human form.
However, when fully developed, it would probably only be about five parts similar, as the difference in physique would be significant—after all, the muscles of a barbarian are truly developed.
The wounds on his body had healed, but he was left with over a dozen scars.
"Still need to pick up a bow and arrow."
"Projectile weapons fall just a little short."
The barbarian’s throwing skill has strong explosive power, akin to a crossbow at close range, but lacks in other aspects.
He walked barefoot along the beach. Having drifted to an uninhabited island, Duncan had to think of a way to return to the mainland. In the worst-case scenario, he might have to swim back across the ocean.
"So many venomous snakes!"
The island was quite large, and Duncan temporarily noticed no signs of human activity or any enemies.
After making a circuit,
Duncan found little of interest but gathered some wood, starting a fire by hand. Twisting it like a spinning stick, smoke soon rose, a wisp of flame appeared, and he skewered snake meat with a stick—it’s best to eat one’s fill first.
Night fell.
Lying on the beach, he gazed up at the starry sky and murmured, "I wonder where Hegel has drifted to?"
"Are the other barbarians still alive?"
In the distance, the sound of waves crashing against the rocks could be heard. Being alone on an uninhabited island was really monotonous. After fully recovering, replenishing his food, he planned to build a raft to see if he could drift back.
Dimension Space.
Just as Duncan’s consciousness returned and he contemplated his next move, a mark suddenly appeared in the vast ocean.
——Siren Sea Demon (three-star silver-grey) (Neutral).
On the distant sea surface.
The head of a beautiful woman emerged from the water, her hair resembling lush seaweed spread across the waves, her lower body a narrow fish tail fluttering gently like ribbonfish in the tides. The sea demon gazed curiously at the bonfire on the far-off beach, hesitant to approach.
A stranded man, unsure whether he was a sailor or a pirate. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
There were few pirates in this era, mostly active around the Golden Coast, primarily composed of Canaanites, akin to the early Carthaginians destroyed by the Roman Republic in ancient times.
The Golden Coast was once abundant with divine beings, all of whom wielded divine-like power bestowed by regional tribal peoples.
A millennium ago, they underwent a major reshuffle,
and the defeated gods were mostly devoured by their adversaries. Those who survived evolved into the regional gods of city-states and nations.
And their numbers continued to dwindle.
Suddenly, as if sensing a looming danger, the sea demon plunged into the depths, curling into a sea cave.
Soon after, an ominous shadow slowly swam through the ocean,
resembling a gigantic devil ray.
By this time, Duncan had already sat up; he was a considerable distance from the location, and swimming over would take quite a while.
"Did I drift into the deep sea?"
Two marks slowly disappeared from the map’s edge.
The latter half of the night passed without incident; until dawn, when Duncan’s strategy map suddenly revealed a dense array of unit marks.
——Oceanid (Divine Successor) (five-star silver-grey).
——Ocean Divine Descendant (three-star to four-star).
——Giant Whale (three-star).
——Tiger Shark and Tiger Whale (two-star to three-star).
——Siren’s Attendant (two-star to three-star).
——Mermaid (three-star silver-grey).
——Sea Witch (four-star).
Instantly, Duncan stood up, peering intensely into the distance. These creatures were far out of sight, located at the edge of his strategy map, their multitude resembling an army.
"Ocean Divine Race?"
Duncan had an in-depth exchange with the Dibet River Goddess, and had some understanding of them.
The Ocean Divine Race of this world somewhat resembles the Ocean Gods of Greek mythology, and carries traits of Vanaheim from Norse beliefs. Collectively known as the ’Ocean Divine Descendants,’ they are a group of divine progeny active within the maritime realms.
