Kodi’s attention moved to those behind the famous Chase Hunt and to the quick movement of a brick wall of pure muscle rushed towards him. Kodi blocked the first strike, the second and third, matching his opponents skills, the skills of a well-renowned warrior, until he managed to hit Kodi’s ribs with a not-so-delightful use of his claws.

The air was knocked out of Kodi, and he felt a burning sensation spread across his side. Every inhale was sharp and difficult. He stumbled but managed to regain his footing just in time to block another hit aimed at his head.

Well shit, Kodi didn’t expect to be impaled by his future brother in law. Koa was ruthless and merciless. He liked him more for it. The raw ferocity Koa displayed was almost admirable, if it wasn’t so damn inconvenient at the moment. It was almost… rogue-like behaviour. The way he fought… Koa had been adopted so maybe he was a rogue.

Whatever. Koa was just in the way now. All of them were. And it was a waste of time-

Kodi coughed, the pain ricocheting from his wound and spreading, clutching tightly at his muscles. He never expected such a dirty trick from Koa Cross. The warrior gripped Kodi by the throat and pushed him against the wall, eyes alight in a bright amber. Kodi had been caught off guard- he was never caught off guard.

This whole Princess business was messing with his head.

’Well you wanted to fight him,’ Blaze noted in amusement. A stab to the ribs was nothing to them, but it sure did hurt like a b-

Kodi’s vision swam for a moment, darkness creeping at the edges.

"This is why you need to talk more." A feminine voice sighed from beside them. Someone else Kodi didn’t pay attention to. His vision flickered but returned to normal. His body was already slowly healing itself.

’You’re slacking off too much. What would Marcus say?’ Blaze scolded, sounding more like a growl.

’He wouldn’t say anything-’

’No, he’d show you how to do better.’ By beating the shit out of him. Some would say it’s child abuse. Firstly he’s an adult, secondly Marcus never abused him as a kid and saved him from some pretty grim family business, but that’s something he didn’t particularly want to think about while his mate’s closest confidante and brother was holding him by the throat.

’It was a lucky shot.’ Kodi replied to his wolf as his attention moved to the small blonde woman who ignored Koa’s growls and wrapped her hand around his wrist, eyes locked on his.

Surprisingly, Koa allowed her to remove his hand from Kodi’s throat, still in some sort of hypnotic state, leaning slightly closer to her and inhaling deeply. Is she a vampire? Kodi assessed her more.

She was human. Yet, Koa acted rather obedient to her… No way…

"You know," Chase began from the side as the woman managed to distract Koa long enough to give Kodi space against the wall. "Would it be better to work together?"

-"Together?" Kodi’s head snapped in Chase’s direction, ignoring what little curiosity he had over the petite human who had some sort of control over Koa Cross. He took note of it and stashed the information for later. It could come in handy.

"I’ll work with him." Kodi nodded his head in Koa’s direction with a smirk. "Not you."

"Does Marcus know where you are?" Chase asked, not insulted one bit.

Kodi glanced at the hunter but didn’t give him an answer. Koa finally returned to his senses and moved away from the human woman. "You were at the pack house."

"Six words," Kodi mused. "Rumours stated you barely talk." Koa glowered at him. "Yes, I was at Silver Crescent."

"You were with her."

Again, Koa was stating what they already knew. "I was." Kodi’s jaw clenched, unable to hide his frustrations. He was there and he couldn’t stop them from taking her away. Was he about to hear that shit from Koa?

Instead, Koa was far worse and far more frustrating. His eyes narrowed slightly but he didn’t comment further. He was a stony-faced fuck besides his eyes that told all that, well, he looked pretty pissed all the time.

’Don’t we as well?’ Blaze murmured. Kodi ignored his comment, still watching the brother who Keira was closest to. Were their conversations like watching paint dry?

"Such riveting conversation," Kodi noted dryly.

"Kodi!" Ash hissed from the side. Shit, he forgot about him.

’Remember he’s our mate’s brother. Play nice.’

’Do we ever?’

Blaze huffed.

With a sigh, Chase looked to the petite blonde. "Skye, go through the system and search for the hunters’ old compounds." It looks like they knew the same information Kodi did. "See if there were any with restricted access."

Ash moved to Kodi’s side after Skye started typing away at the keyboard, swiftly going through screens of information. He gave Kodi a look, as if to say ’I told you so’. Kodi frowned and kept his gaze on the back of the Skye’s head, ignoring Ash’s comment and Koa who had slowly stood in front of her, blocking his field of vision.

’That’s interesting.’ Kodi stated. ’Mates?’ Blaze wondered.

A few more minutes ticked by before an error code popped up on the screen. Skye typed a few more times but the window didn’t drop.

"I almost had it," Skye huffed. "We’ve been locked out. Even with your access, Mr Hunt."

Koa squeezed the top of the chair Skye sat in before pushing of and marching away.

"Where are you going?" Skye shot to her feet and glared in his direction, sounding exasperated, like he’d walked away quietly many times before.

Kodi didn’t read the situation like the little blonde did. He saw the determination on Koa’s face. "Calling the best hacker I know," Koa answered whilst placing his phone against his ear.

Koa knew a hacker? Kodi eyed him. Of course, he knew someone, he was a royal, they had access to everything. Still, the guy was shrouded in mystery.
