Chapter 53: Chapter 53: Mistaken Identity? _1

In Eleven’s ear, her mother’s affectionate voice echoed, "Sweet girl, mom is going to get you ice cream. Stay here and wait for me to come back."

The little girl stood there, watching her mother slowly fade into the distance until her entire world began to spin around her.

She couldn’t see anyone else, nor was her mother returning. Eventually, she crouched down, burying her face in her knees and cried bitterly.

"Mother..."

In the quiet classroom, everyone turned their head towards the source of the noise. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

In the end, the professor slammed his textbook onto the podium and shouted at the top of his lungs, "Whoever at the back, wake up! No sleeping in my class!"

The student sitting in front of Eleven turned around and poked her hand with a pen.

Eleven was abruptly woken from the nightmare that filled her with fear.

She lifted her head, dazedly gazing at everyone in the class. Some were stifling their laughter, others looked confused. Only then did she understand that it was all just a too-real dream.

She let out a quiet sigh and rested her head on the desk again, attempting to calm herself.

The professor’s voice turned into an inaudible hum. When she sat upright again, she wiped a tear from the corner of her eye.

"Hey, where are you going!"

Regardless of the professor’s shout, Eleven swiftly left the classroom from the back door. She was in a bad mood and had no desire to continue the class.

She used her new phone to chat with Ye Wanjun on WeChat, suggesting they both ditch class.

Ye Wanjun sent her a new voice message: Sister! I’m already short of required credits, if I miss another class, my professor will kill me! Do I want to graduate or not!

Eleven: Alright, never mind then.

Packing up her phone, Eleven grabbed her backpack and left the campus.

...

AC Bar.

A bar staff stopped Eleven at the entrance: "I’m sorry, but we’ve been strict lately. Minors are not allowed inside."

She was dressed in a jumpsuit, canvas shoes, with a high ponytail —a simple student outfit.

"I’m twenty-three!"

"You?"

Frustrated, Eleven immediately took out her student ID and shoved it into his chest.

The man examined Eleven’s ID in surprise, "Oh, it really is... Didn’t see that coming."

Eleven, not interested in small talk, snatched her ID back, stuffed it into her bag and strode inside.

The bar was packed; it was noisy with people drinking, dancing, and messing around together. She ordered a dozen drinks, sat alone in a corner, seemingly detached from the clamor around her.

Didn’t matter how many people were around, she was still alone and desolate.

She didn’t want to reminisce about the past, but as she got drunk, more voices and scenes filled her head, causing her extreme sorrow.

In the disco lights, she suddenly spotted a figure and was startled.

The person in front...

Why did she look so much like Xiaoxiao?

Eleven found it odd. Was she hallucinating from being drunk? Since when did Xiaoxiao appear here as well? Skipping class like her?

And the middle-aged man beside her, their intimacy suggested it’s Uncle Bai, didn’t it?

Placing down the wine bottle, Eleven stumbled along to catch up.

"Xiaoxiao?" She called from behind.

The bar was overloaded with people. She was jolted by someone and when she looked up again, she couldn’t see where they’d gone.

She returned to her corner to drown her sorrows in alcohol, but later spotted the familiar figure striding past her once again. On a closer look, it wasn’t Xiaoxiao.

She rubbed her forehead and thought to herself, was she drunk already?
