Hubby's Deep Love Will Never Change-Chapter 1075 The Other Shore Flower Heather (99)
Nian Shen carried Heather directly down the steps and headed toward the car waiting for them.
Yi Yang got out of the car and opened the door.
Inside the car.
"Why is Miss Hai this drunk?" Yi Yang asked, glancing at the rearview mirror as he slowly drove off. "Is her alcohol tolerance that bad?"
However, not long after they had driven a short distance, Heather, who was slumped against Nian Shen, suddenly opened her eyes. She sat up, pressed a hand to her forehead, leaned against the seat, and griped, "When I said ’just a little,’ did you really have to stop me exactly at that point?"
Good thing she had underestimated. Otherwise, situations like this usually made it hard to refuse all the toasts.
Yi Yang glanced at the rearview mirror and chuckled, "So Miss Hai was just pretending to be drunk, huh." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"Of course." Though she wasn’t completely drunk, all that alcohol still left her head a bit heavy. Rubbing her temples with one hand, she remarked, "If I hadn’t lowballed it, I would have passed out by now. That’s no good."
"Definitely not," Yi Yang said. "Girls need to be careful. In these kinds of settings, if there’s no one around to watch out for you, you really shouldn’t drink too much. Miss Hai, even though you’re pretty capable, once you’re drunk or if someone gets any unsavory ideas, no matter how skilled you are, you wouldn’t be able to help yourself."
What a statement from Yi Yang!
The moment his words landed, Heather tilted her head slightly to the right, resting it lazily against her hand as she used the motion to shift her gaze toward Nian Shen. He was still sitting there, perfectly upright, as if he hadn’t heard a single word Yi Yang had said.
He sat so properly, giving the impression of being oh-so-righteous.
Heather let out a dry laugh, unapologetically staring at him as she said, "Exactly. You have to stay on guard at all times, or you’ll end up being a sheep heading for slaughter without even realizing it, entirely at someone else’s mercy."
Yi Yang, oblivious to the change in atmosphere in the back seat, laughed and added, "But really, who’d dare to have such malicious thoughts about someone like Miss Hai? Unless they’ve got a death wish."
Heather gave a faint smile, "Oh, there are people bold enough to try."
What a coincidence, Assistant Yi—your boss is one of them!
Having been caught in Nian Shen’s power play once before, Heather clearly hadn’t let it go.
Nian Shen couldn’t possibly be unaware of Heather’s gaze piercing into him—so nakedly and so distinctively attention-grabbing. He merely chose to act as if he hadn’t heard or felt a thing.
In his hands were documents handed over by a few executives earlier, and he was leisurely flipping through them.
"Huh?" Yi Yang glanced at the rearview mirror again and asked, "Who was it? Someone with the guts of a lion and a leopard combined, daring to make a move on you?"
"Exactly. If their luck hadn’t saved them, they’d already be dead by my hand." Heather’s words were cold as her gaze stayed fixed on Nian Shen.
"That’s right," Yi Yang chuckled, "instant execution on the spot."
To Heather, it sounded like a completely typical joke—nothing out of the ordinary.
Though Nian Shen avoided looking at her, he had heard every word of their exchange. Instead of responding, he smoothly changed the topic, "Thanks for enduring tonight, helping me fend off so much liquor."
"No need for thanks..." Heather propped her head up with one hand, "I owe you anyway. My paycheck isn’t in yet, so I can’t pay you back the money right now. Think of this as interest repayment."
Heather leaned back into the seat. There was still a fair distance to the city center, and during the drive, with the alcohol settling in, she dozed off.
Nian Shen turned his head to glance at her, closed the file in his hand, turned off all the car’s overhead lights, then quietly removed his jacket and gently draped it over her shoulders.
