Chapter 222: Chapter 224: Throwing a Shoe_1

The dawn slowly unfurled.

Li Qiao got up early and after tidying up, he and Qin Jin arrived at the entrance of the family courtyard.

After waiting for about five minutes, Uncle and nephew Xue Lingqing appeared in their line of sight.

Li Qiao’s smile widened as he greeted them first, "Good morning, Professor Xue, good morning, Xue."

"Hello."

"Hello."

Both men responded with smiles as well.

Xue Sufen’s gaze swept over them. Li Qiao and Qin Jin were dressed in matching red and black jackets, with uniform black sports pants and white sneakers. The latter was carrying a bulging backpack. "Why are you two dressed like siblings?"

Li Qiao’s smile faded as he corrected her, "It’s couple outfits."

Xue Sufen’s mouth twitched, "Couple outfits? Were all the students in high school couples because they wore uniforms? Is this outfit exclusive to you two?"

"I’m not going to argue with you," Li Qiao said as he walked toward the minibus station.

Qin Jin followed after him.

Xue Sufen kept pace, "Can’t argue with me so you accuse me of arguing..."

...

When the group boarded the bus,

Xue Sufen purposely squeezed in front of Qin Jin, took the seat beside Li Qiao by the window and immediately sat next to him, separating the two.

The three of them, uncle and nephew, almost seventy when added together, didn’t have a partner among them.

Yet these two were unapologetically wearing matching outfits.

How could she, a single person, not feel annoyed?

She gave Li Qiao a perfunctory smile and made an excuse, "I want to learn your martial arts, when are you free to teach me?"

Qin Jin gave Xue Sufen a sidelong glance, and took the seat behind Li Qiao next to Xue Lingqing.

Li Qiao: "Our family’s martial arts are not to be disclosed."

"Family’s martial arts? Stop kidding!" Xue Sufen looked disdainful, "If you don’t want to teach, just say it directly."

"If you don’t believe it, forget it!" Li Qiao leaned back in the seat which was made sleepy by the uneven road. The rhythm of the shaking bus lulled her to sleep, and she closed her eyes unknowingly.

Qin Jin, worried that she might get cold, took off his coat and covered her with it.

Xue Lingqing glanced at her, thinking how nice it would be if it were his jacket covering her.

When Qin Jin looked over, Xue Lingqing had no time to avert his eyes, feeling somewhat guilty. He maintained his calm and took the initiative to say, "The window isn’t closed." Then he pulled out a book from his bag to read.

Qin Jin closed the window with a raise of his hand and turned back, saying, "As expected of a teacher, always bringing a book even when going out to have fun."

Xue Lingqing could only feel ashamed and replied calmly, "Just to pass the time."

Because Li Qiao was sleeping, Qin Jin spoke no more.

Xue Lingqing immersed himself in the book, never looking up again.

Xue Sufen patted Li Qiao, "Stop sleeping, let’s talk."

Li Qiao whispered softly, "I’m so sleepy, can you chat with Professor Xue instead?" She also moved inward to avoid Xue Sufen’s annoying touch.

Xue Lingqing: "Sufen, switch seats with Jin."

Xue Sufen didn’t want to move, sitting firmly and straight towards the destination, once again forcefully patting Li Qiao’s chest, "Li Qiao, we’re here!"

Li Qiao was awakened by Xue Sufen’s palm, the muffled sound of her clothes accompanying a hiss of pain.

As she opened her eyes, she stared blankly ahead, still groggy.

Qin Jin felt a surge of distress. Her skin was so delicate it must have reddened. Even at the height of his misunderstandings about her, he had refrained from hitting her, and here was this venomous woman delivering a powerful slap at the first opportunity! His gaze turned frosty as he stared at Xue Sufen’s back, tempted to kick her.

...

As the elder, Xue Lingqing naturally took it upon himself to buy the tickets for everyone.

The group advanced from the entrance onward.

Xue Sufen, being the least physically fit, lagged behind.

Qin Jin deliberately slowed his pace to let Xue Sufen catch up. When she did, he blocked her path and asked in a low, cold voice, "Did you just intentionally hit Qiaoqiao under the guise of waking her up?"

Xue Sufen feigned confusion: "When was this?"

Qin Jin: "If you dare to touch my wife again, I’ll let everyone know how many times you’ve sought me out to become pen pals."

Xue Sufen: "..." Despicable and shameless! In anger, she said, "Hooligan! Talking about ’my, my,’ who do you think you are to call yourself ’my’? Do you have any manners?"

"Then why do you still want to be pen pals with ’my’?" implied Qin Jin, insinuating she was no better. With that, he walked away.

"You, you, you!" Xue Sufen could never out-argue Li Qiao, let alone Qin Jin. She stammered for a long time without making sense, and by the time she had come up with a retort, Qin Jin was already some distance away. She stamped her foot in frustration and gave chase, but failing to catch up, she threw her shoe at him.

The shoe landed behind Qin Jin.

With a dull thud.

Qin Jin looked back, took two steps toward it, and kicked the shoe over the city wall.

Xue Sufen screamed.

He actually kicked her shoe away! She trembled with rage. How could there be such a man without a shred of chivalry?

Qin Jin watched the furious Xue Sufen with a corner of his mouth turned up in a smirk. It’d be good to infuriate you to death! As if nothing had happened, he strode away.

....

Xue Jingyi walked for nearly an hour before realizing Xue Sufen hadn’t kept up. He looked back, but didn’t see her. "Uncle, Sufen has fallen behind. Let’s rest here and wait for her," he suggested.

Xue Lingqing: "Okay."

Li Qiao was also tired. Qin Jin handed her water, and she drank half a cup in one go. "Oh no, what if I need to use the bathroom?"

"Handle it on the spot."

Li Qiao rolled her eyes at the bad idea.

The view halfway up the mountain was pleasant.

She took out her sketchbook to draw.

Qin Jin leaned in close.

Xue Jingyi moved in as well and watched as she quickly sketched the towering mountain and the winding path of the Great Wall with majestic vigor. He couldn’t help but admire her. "You have such talent at a young age! Not only are you skilled in both literary and martial arts, but your artistic abilities are outstanding as well." If only she were his sister.

He’d flaunt her every day.

Li Qiao smiled modestly: "You flatter me." After finishing her quick drawing, she said, "You three stand together, I’ll draw you a picture."

"Sure!" Xue Jingyi was enthusiastic and positioned himself next to Xue Lingqing.

Qin Jin stood beside Xue Jingyi.

Li Qiao took ten minutes to capture the dynamic poses of the three men and added herself beside Qin Jin.

Xue Sufen finally caught up, panting and accusing Xue Lingqing and Xue Jingyi: "You actually didn’t wait for me."

Xue Jingyi: "If we hadn’t waited for you, we would have already reached the top. Why is one of your shoes missing?"

Xue Sufen exploded on the spot: "Qin Jin kicked it away!"

Li Qiao was incredulous: "Jin has been with us the whole time. When did you two become enemies?"

Xue Sufen was at a loss for words. She didn’t dare reveal the reason, yet she didn’t want to let Qin Jin off easy: "I’m also confused, but it was him who kicked my shoe away. Uncle, Brother, you must help me deal with him."

Xue Lingqing looked at Li Qiao and Qin Jin sharing a look and felt embarrassed. He lowered his head and continued walking forward, not paying attention to Xue Sufen: "Where’s the evidence?"

Xue Sufen: "My word is evidence."

Xue Jingyi: "We can hardly trust your word without question. Let’s not discuss why he would kick your shoe. Your shoe is supposed to be on your foot, did he take it off for you? Most likely, you lost it yourself while climbing up and down, and now you’re blaming Jin for no reason."

Xue Sufen, frustrated, scratched her head. She certainly couldn’t say that she had thrown her shoe at him and he had kicked it away, could she?

Li Qiao: "I have a pair of slippers in my bag, do you want to wear them?" She had learned her lesson from a previous hike, where her toes had been squeezed and hurt for days after going downhill. This time, she had prepared a pair of slippers in case her feet hurt.

Xue Sufen had walked several miles with one foot in a sock, and her lower limbs were already numb: "I’ll... switch them out."

Xue Lingqing and Xue Jingyi both showed looks of disgust at the same time.

She complained about someone’s partner kicking away her shoe, yet she accepted help from that person.

How could there be such a person?
