Chapter 145: Demonic Slime

The bandit was very surprised; he certainly hadn’t expected the woman in front of him to disintegrate right before his eyes—much less try to devour him.

Camula, transformed into her slime form, had several octopus-like tentacles that latched onto the bandit’s arms and legs.

"Aaaah!" he screamed in pain. "What the hell is this? It burns!! W-Wait!!"

He could only scream as my Demonic Slime completely engulfed him. It seemed he was still moving inside Camula, as the large, thick mass of liquid looked like it was trying to rupture, as if being pushed from the inside out.

We watched in silence as the Slime finished devouring him; he was our enemy, so there was no reason for me to feel any empathy, but I could tell the other girls seemed frightened of Camula.

"Brother!" one of the bandits ran to rescue him, but it was useless. "Aaaaaah!!"

He began to howl in pain as he touched the miasma with his bare hands. His hands were immediately contaminated by the poisonous miasma.

The mass then began to contract, shrinking until it was roughly my size. The miasma then took on Camula’s form again.

"Ugh!" Her face looked quite displeased. "He tasted just as bad as I thought."

"Y-You monster!!" The other bandits rushed to attack her, scythes and swords in hand.

I didn’t know how they imagined they could defeat a creature they couldn’t even touch, but even so, the bandits threw themselves into the fight as a group.

"Arara, it seems you really don’t know when to give up," Camula said as her hands changed shape, molding itself into larger claws, with fingers longer than her normal hands.

One of the attackers had his sword raised, prepared to strike her. At that moment, Camula quickly slashed at the abdomen of the man in front of her. Her claws weren’t just for show.

Even though she was a Slime, her attacks were capable of tearing into his flesh, poisoning it where they touched.

I was left speechless as I watched Camula defeat the bandits one by one. The doubts I had about her fighting ability were dispelled. Even with her low level and stats, Camula knew how to fight.

Needless to say, she devoured each of the bandits who had fallen in battle in her Slime form.

[ Congratulations! Camula leveled up! ]

Once her one-sided victory was confirmed, Camula ran over to me with a wide smile. "Master, do you like seeing me fight?"

Before I could say anything, Justine spoke with a tense expression.

"Fight? That was more like a massacre."

Camula turned to her, still smiling. "I know, it was really cool, right?"

"Can you use miasma?" I asked her.

"It’s not exactly miasma, actually," she told me. "My body produces a poison that helps dissolve what I try to eat, but to anyone watching from the outside, it probably looks very similar."

Camula wrapped her arms around my neck, hugging me, her huge chest pressing against me. "But the poison doesn’t stay outside my body when I’m in this form, so I can touch you without any problem, Master."

"I see..."

Curious to learn more about Camula, I took a closer look at her characteristics and skills.

It was a pretty simple character kit, but I couldn’t say it was inefficient. Even at level 1, she was able to take on that group of bandits all by herself. It was amazing, but if she was a Demon, she might have a clear weakness.

While still holding me, her eyes shifted to my group, and she suddenly looked very scared. She released her embrace and hid behind me, using my body like a shield. I was surprised, because a woman who had been so arrogant now seemed like a frightened kitten.

I thought that Sarah, Diane, or Justine were threatening her, but that wasn’t the case. Following Camula’s gaze, I realized that the one putting fear into her heart was none other than Alicia. Alicia was giving a death glare at the new addition to our team.

"M-Master, t-this little girl is... gulp—some kind of Priestess?" Camula asked, swallowing nervously.

Alicia didn’t like that at all, replying in a cold voice, "Who are you calling a little girl? I’m a fully fledged adult."

"Except for your bust and your height..."

"Who said that?" Alicia turned toward the other Valkyries. Erina was whistling awkwardly, making it pretty obvious it was her.

Fortunately for Camula, Erina now had all of Alicia’s attention because of her unfortunate comment. Thank you, Erina, for your noble sacrifice. I salute you.

While Alicia went straight for Erina’s neck, as the others tried to pull the two apart, Camula looked at me.

"Master, you have a weird bunch of underlings."

"It’s not like you’re not pretty weird yourself."

"Eh? But I think I’m pretty normal, Master."

How did she have the audacity to say something like that after devouring a man alive right in front of me? Which made me think of something.

"Hey, tell me something, Camula," I asked her, "you don’t feel like eating humans on a regular basis, do you?"

With just a few words, she understood what I meant. My question implied whether she might end up eating one of my Valkyries.

Camula made an offended face at me. "I feel insulted by that comment, Master. You told me they are your wives, so I would never do any harm to them."

I sighed. "What a relief."

"But..." Camula avoided my gaze, bringing her hands together in a shy gesture, "if you ever have a problem with any of them, I could make an exception and get rid of them for you."

"Please get that idea out of your head."

...

I wanted to grind my new Valkyries a little after the sun went down, and thankfully we found the perfect prey. We found Goblin tracks near the road and decided to follow them in search of the monsters.

We finally found four short, green creatures with hooked noses and warts. Goblins are easy to deal with, so they are perfect enemies for beginners.

"Camula, you draw their attention. Erina, attack from a distance, and Diane, strike the enemies when they’re unprepared," I told them, and they responded with a nod.

My Demonic Slime did exactly what I said, placing herself right in front of the goblins. The sadistic little creatures seemed excited when they saw her, and without hesitation, they ran toward her.

Camula didn’t move even an inch, waiting for the Goblins to enter the range of the other two. Then a shot broke the silence of the forest.

With her weapon loaded with Metal Charge, Erina fired a perfect headshot at one of the goblins. It was good to see that time without action hadn’t dulled her aim. Either way, one down, three to go.

Diane materialized two dark daggers in her hands using her new skill. The blades had an ominous look, which was kind of cool.

Using the shock from the gunshot as a distraction, Diane rushed behind the monsters, going for a deadly backstab.

"Fatal Slash!" With two consecutive strikes, Diane took down two more goblins from behind. Only one remained now.

"Eh?" I was surprised at how quickly it had already been dealt with.

Camula had grabbed it using her Poison Touch. The small creature’s body began to merge into the Slime’s mass until it was completely devoured.

"She’s still not satisfied. She ate more than four adult humans not that long ago," Sarah said.

"Rick, do something about her. She clearly has an insatiable appetite," Justine told me, clearly nervous.

"Ah, don’t worry. She said she wouldn’t attack you."

"That’s not what I’m talking about. She wouldn’t attack any of us, but what about other humans? If we go into a city, can you guarantee she won’t attack people left and right?"

Justine was right, so right after that, I gave an order to Camula: she wouldn’t eat anything unless I gave her permission.

"If it’s your order, I will obey it, Master." That’s what she said.

Camula seemed sad about my order, but she didn’t seem upset with me—quite the opposite. She looked genuinely docile and obedient, something I didn’t expect from a monster.

’Can I really trust that she won’t do anything wrong?’

Brandish immediately replied, ’Yes. If you ordered it, she will remain obedient. Since you created her, she cannot disobey you in any way.’

’I see. Hey, Brandish. There is something I want to ask. It’s about Camula’s body. Am I able to...’

"Oh, rest assured. You can m-make out with her. The only problem would be her... insides. She has poison down there, but thanks to your passive skill, you won’t have any problem with that."
